The Demolition Squad

Originally, Kaguya hadn't thought much of their injuries. But after thoroughly inspecting their wounds, her expression grew serious.

Their injuries were far more severe than she'd expected—both were on the brink of death. The white-haired girl, the younger sister, had injuries that were particularly grave. In addition to countless cuts and gashes, the wound across her chest was the most fatal, stretching from her right shoulder to her left abdomen, nearly slicing her body in half. Her internal organs had sustained critical damage, multiple bones were fractured, and most of her blood had already been lost.

The older sister's condition wasn't much better. Her body was pierced by over twenty sharp quinque knives, driven in to the hilt, leaving her looking like a pincushion. Such injuries would have been fatal to any human. Only because of their ghoul physiology had they survived this long.

However, if Kaguya didn't intervene, the faint breath of life still lingering in them wouldn't last more than ten minutes.

What a disaster.

Kaguya glanced at the now-cold dango sitting on the table, sighing in frustration.

"Meeting me is your lucky break," she muttered, approaching the bed to begin treating their injuries.

Just as she was about to get started, a blood-stained hand weakly reached out and tugged at the hem of her clothes. Startled, Kaguya turned to see the black-haired older sister, whom the younger girl had referred to as "sister," gasping out faintly, "Please… save my sister first… I'll do anything…"

Before she could finish, her hand went limp and fell to her side.

Kaguya's heart skipped a beat. Was she dead?

Quickly pressing her fingers to the girl's neck, she was relieved to find a faint pulse still present.

Well, now she had no choice but to help.

Wait a minute.

Something occurred to Kaguya. She turned to look closely at the pair of girls lying side by side on the bed. Except for their hair color—one black, one white—they were nearly identical. Additionally, their kagune-affected eyes had subtle differences: the older sister's left eye was ghoul-like, while the younger sister's was the right.

Their identities suddenly clicked into place.

Kurona Yasuhisa and Nashiro Yasuhisa.

Kaguya finally understood.

She should have realized earlier, but their extremely weak combat abilities had thrown her off. They weren't even on par with a typical S-rated ghoul; they might not even qualify as B-rated. Compared to an average adult ghoul, their power was only slightly better. Given their current battered state, Kaguya hadn't immediately made the connection.

Their appearances also differed significantly from the original descriptions. They were much more beautiful than described—delicate, like finely crafted dolls. Earlier, their faces had been caked in blood, making it hard to discern their features. Combined with Kaguya's own preoccupations, she hadn't pieced things together until now.

Without further hesitation, Kaguya began treating them. However, she noticed something odd. Normally, ghouls had remarkable healing abilities. Even without outside help, their injuries should have begun to close over time. Yet the severe wounds on the sisters showed no signs of recovery, leaving Kaguya puzzled.

As she stripped away their tattered clothing, Kaguya placed her hands on the girls' abdomens. Pure energy began to flow gently from her palms, coursing through their bodies like a steady stream, spreading warmth and vitality. Their cells began repairing themselves rapidly, and the gruesome wounds on their bodies started to close at a speed visible to the naked eye.

An hour later, the initial treatment was complete. Kaguya wiped the sweat from her brow, covered the two girls' delicate bodies with a blanket, and turned to leave the room.

Their injuries, however, were far from fully healed. The severity of their wounds had pushed their life forces to the brink of exhaustion. Even with their external injuries mostly repaired, their remaining lifespans were limited without further intervention.

What concerned Kaguya even more was an unexpected discovery—the kagune of Kurona and Nashiro were shockingly underdeveloped. Or perhaps, more accurately, incredibly weak. Compared to their S-rated ghoul counterparts in the original timeline, they seemed barely capable of standing in the same league. In fact, their current state suggested they weren't ghouls of a particularly strong grade at all.

Wait a second… Failed experiments?

A flash of realization crossed Kaguya's mind as she recalled a detail she had overlooked.

In this timeline, Rize Kamishiro had not been captured by Akihiro Kanou, as she was in the original series. Without Rize serving as the core experimental material, Kanou would not have been able to conduct his infamous ghoul-human hybrid experiments in the same way. It stood to reason that the lack of suitable resources had compromised his results, leading to failed experiments like Kurona and Nashiro.

This would also explain why the two sisters weren't affiliated with Aogiri Tree as they were in the original story but were instead wandering here aimlessly.

Moreover, if the ghoul-human hybridization research was based on a deficient foundation, it wasn't surprising that Kanou had resorted to sacrificing numerous humans and ghouls alike in his desperate pursuit of success. The sisters were likely just two of many who had fallen victim to his ruthless experiments.

Akihiro Kanou really had gone to extreme lengths—killing their parents, framing the CCG for their deaths, and exploiting the girls' hatred to manipulate them into joining his experiments and serving his goals.

How did Kaguya figure this out? Well, this afternoon-drama-level soap-opera plotline practically wrote itself. It wasn't hard to piece together.

At present, Kurona and Nashiro's survival hinged on consuming blood and flesh to replenish their RC cells. They had lost so much blood that their healing capabilities were nearly nonexistent without sufficient energy.

Wait a minute.

Kaguya suddenly recalled something peculiar—when the sisters had attacked her earlier, their kagune seemed to have undergone some unusual changes. Specifically, after drinking her blood, their tail-type kagune had shifted to wing-type. This was definitely not normal, but it suggested something significant.

Could her blood have the ability to enhance or mutate kagune?

If that were true, it might explain the rapid growth in their kagune's strength. Her blood seemed to act as a kind of catalyst, possibly improving their combat capabilities. Of course, this was just speculation for now.

To verify her hypothesis, she needed a test subject. Or rather, she had two of them lying conveniently right in her bedroom.

Kaguya glanced at the sleeping sisters, their faces nestled closely together, looking surprisingly innocent despite their earlier antics. A sly smile crept across her face.

"You two little troublemakers… you're in for a treat."

...

Morning light poured through the clear windows, warm and gentle, illuminating the room and sweeping away the night's shadows. The air felt fresh and crisp under the golden glow.

At that moment, Kaguya was sound asleep, breathing steadily, a peaceful expression on her face as a thin thread of drool escaped her lips. Oblivious to the world, she remained unaware of two young girls standing on her bed, staring down at her with scrutinizing gazes.

"Kurona, should we kill her?" Nashiro asked coldly, her indifferent tone matching her piercing gaze as she looked at the defenseless, black-haired girl sleeping before them.

"This fool is the one who saved us?" Kurona replied icily, her voice tinged with disdain. "I don't see anything remarkable about her. Could it be that all CCG investigators are brainless idiots now? Sleeping so soundly with enemies right beside her… Nashiro."

"Absolutely no sense of vigilance," Nashiro sneered. "It's like she's begging someone to kill her."

"An idiot like this… there's no satisfaction in killing her," Kurona muttered, letting out a disdainful snort. However, her eyes narrowed slightly when they landed on the faint bloodstains around Kaguya's wrist.

"So, should we kill her?" Nashiro turned to Kurona, her voice chillingly even.

Kurona hesitated for a moment, then turned away. "Forget it. Killing someone like her won't change anything."

"Hmm." Nashiro nodded in agreement.

Suddenly, Kaguya, who was supposedly deep in slumber, opened her eyes. With a mocking grin, she taunted, "I say, you two little brats with big egos—don't you think you're overestimating yourselves a bit?"

"What?!"

"Huh?!"

The sudden voice startled Kurona and Nashiro, their faces paling as they instinctively leaped backward, attempting to retreat from Kaguya's reach. But they were too late.

Kaguya moved like lightning, her hand darting out to grab their bare ankles. A mischievous smirk played across her lips as she yanked them backward with a sharp tug.

"Lie down and behave yourselves!" she declared gleefully.

"Ahhh!"

"Ahhh!"

With twin yelps, the two girls toppled onto the bed, landing with loud thuds. Nashiro's head even bumped against the nightstand, bringing tears to her eyes from the pain.

Kaguya, her smile wicked and triumphant, pounced on them, pinning the panicked sisters beneath her. Her soft and pliant body pressed against theirs, rendering them completely immobilized.

"You two little rascals think you can take me on?" Kaguya teased, her tone dripping with amusement. "Prepare yourselves!" She raised her hands dramatically, her fingers flexing like claws, and aimed them toward the flailing sisters.

"Ahhhhhh!"

Their piercing screams echoed, nearly bursting Kaguya's eardrums.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Alongside their screams, a cacophony of thunderous crashes filled the room—glass shattering, furniture splintering, and other strange noises reverberated chaotically.

Outside, pedestrians paused in confusion, glancing around with furrowed brows.

"Was that an earthquake?" someone wondered aloud.

"Probably so."

"Are you serious? How can you say that so casually!"

"Disaster, an absolute disaster."

...

The two girls lay sprawled on the bed, eyes unfocused, soft gasps escaping slightly parted lips as their chests heaved up and down. Their clothing was in complete disarray, torn in several places, exposing patches of fair, delicate skin. Especially conspicuous were the red, hand-shaped marks on their chests, standing out vividly against their radiant skin, evoking untamed imagination.

"Think you can take me on, huh?" Kaguya chuckled smugly while adjusting her tattered silk blouse, a self-satisfied grin on her face.

Of course, the effect might have been more convincing if her own cheeks weren't marked with matching red handprints.

When Kaguya turned and took in the state of her room, however, the smug expression froze on her face.

"What the hell?"

What had once been a neat and elegant room was now unrecognizable. The place was a complete wreck, with crisscrossing gouges scarring the walls, as if the apartment had barely survived a demolition. Furniture lay shattered, reduced to little more than splinters. Even appliances like the television had been reduced to smoldering fragments, some still sparking ominously.

Was this really her home?

If not for the cheap two-hundred-yen picture frame she'd bought on sale and hung on the wall, she might have thought she'd walked into someone else's place.

The answer lay in the chaos of the recent "battle." Kaguya had been so caught up in subduing the two girls that she hadn't noticed the collateral damage. To her, they were like preschoolers—utterly outclassed. Even after drinking her blood and experiencing a surge in power, they were no match. Kaguya had toyed with them like a cat plays with kittens.

And the tactile experience? She had to admit, quite satisfying.

But what was an easy game for her had been devastating for her apartment. It had gone from brand-new to borderline condemned in record time.

She couldn't help but think they might have a future with a demolition crew.

"Such a disaster," Kaguya murmured, pinching her chin in thought. She briefly entertained the idea of silencing the two little homewreckers permanently.

Something else puzzled her, though. Kurona and Nashiro had started out as tail-type ghouls, much like Rize Kamishiro, albeit weaker. But after drinking her blood, their kagune had mutated into wing-type kagune, resembling Touka Kirishima's in form. Could her blood have mutation-inducing properties?

Normally, such phenomena wouldn't bother Kaguya—mutation happens in nature, after all. But the shift had consequences. Their newfound wing-type kagune allowed them to fire sharp, crystalline projectiles capable of tremendous destructive power—far exceeding bullets.

This unexpected upgrade had doubled their destructive efficiency. The deep craters and jagged gashes now decorating her apartment walls? Courtesy of the sisters' upgraded kagune.

Fortunately, Kaguya had been careful to stash the dango she brought home in the fridge. Given the fridge's sturdy build, it should have survived the chaos unscathed.

Unless…

"Wait… where's the fridge?"

Kaguya froze in place, her face going pale as if struck by lightning.
