Altho teclos was boasting, the control of that mana from the distance wasn't easy.
The hardest part was shaping it in to the form of knives, but sending them towards the brain of the boar was somewhat easy for him.
Also the only ones who knew what type of mana he had were his parents, to everyone else he was basicly making it seem like he had wind mana. With the versatility of darkness, it wasn't that hard to pull off. Altho he wasn't exactly a cautious person but from the novels he read in his past life, showing all your cards was a serious taboo.
"I basicly guided the arrow in to its brain...tho it wasn't easy, to say the least"
He said panting a bit.
Ralph and Gillard were astonished at his control of mana and precision as they didn't know he had plenty of practice from the day he picked up the book of mana control ....13 years ago.
And Ralph voiced it,
"Man i wish i was a genius like you....must be nice"
With that said he got a slap to the back of his head from Gillard,
"Seriously? Don't get all jealous , he litteraly goes hunting and exploring every day and you know how obsessed he is with training every day...put in more effort and you'll also get better."
A bit ashamed he replied to Gillard,
"Yea you're right ...still don't slap me you little shit."
And with that he kicked him in the shin ,which started a fight between the two.
"Alright alright ,stop it you two. We should look for more prey, since we aren't official hunters we can take everything home and i would like to eat some fine meat today."
Culling the wild life around the village was necessary, as it was a real problem keeping it in check. Thats why it was welcome for upstarts to help the official hunters, the only differance was that they could take all the meat but wouldn't get paid.
The real problem with the wild life was, that for instance spiked boars had the same birth rate as the goblins which were classified as a horde race.
And these beasts weren't the only ones, there was also a species of a large bird in the area which was also a horde race. It was called cockatrice and when found, it was usually hunted because of its delicious meat, unless there were 3 or more of them together.
Cockatrice were a bit more dangerous than the spike boars, well alot more infact....mostly because of their speed, even just 2 of them were a problem for hunters but not enough to turn around and leave.
A cockatrice is a two winged and two legged beast, it has low intelligenge but is a horde race, it has excelent sight and above average hearing but struggles with the smelling sense, with it basicly being the same as average humans.
It has a roosters head, feathered wings and body, snake like loong neck and big talons on its legs.
Altho more dangerous than the boars, they are easier to kill because of its low defense. But make no mistake they are very fast on land or in the sky, so hitting them is always a challenge.
Most notable is offcourse their speed, followed by the hardness of their beaks or talons tho otherwise they have no more special qualities.
"Lets hunt us some cockatrice today...just thinking about that tender meat is making me salivate."
Altho Gillard was in agreement Ralph objected.
"I think it's still too soon to hunt that, the boars are gluttons so they sometimes wander alone but the cockatrice don't....there will be alteast two of them if not more."
While it was a valid concern it was overruled by Teclos, thinking that they were ready as the boar kill was easy enough.
With basicly no choice Ralph joined them because he didn't want to leave them alone.
They went further in to the forest towards the mountain pass north-west in search for the bird.
After half a day of walking they finnaly spoted some of them but there were just to manny, the cockatrice were eating something big but unrecognisable and there were alteast 10 of them.
Teclos and the other two were observing them if they would maybe split up but it didn't look like it, so they circled around them in search for a lone one or atmost two.
About an hour away from the first encounter they were a bit lucky as they found just a pair of cockatrice sunbathing on some rocks.
"Alright this is as good as it's going to get, we only have time left for this hunt, then we have to go back because the sun will go down."
Gillard spoke first and both Teclos and Ralph agreed.
"Alright we should either seperate them or i take one and you two take the other on?" Lately with every thing going his way Teclos was feeling brave.
And that annoyed Ralph,
"Splitting should be the safe bet, unless you want to play hero again?"
Annoyed with his snide remarks he simply said " well atleat i can play the hero, you would just fall face first in to its shit".
And that started a bit of bickering between the two, which after a few seconds was stoped by Gillard .
Ultimately they decided for the split up tactic, they would lure one away while the other was still on the rocks.
All three of then went from the right side, they took the dead boar out of the bag they had, for bait and approched them from behind a fairly large bush. Both of the cockatrice were facing different directions so they tried to lure one with just some rustling of the leaves and showing the boars body.
Supprisingly it worked as it opened its eyes, it focused on the boar and saw a bit of blood.
The cockatrice slowly and silently stood up, moving towards the bush in a stalking motion ready to pounce.
There was a distance of about 60 metres between its original spot and them, so they moved a bit back once it got baited to gain more distance between the other cockatrice.
As it was getting fairly close they left the pig behind a tree with a bit of it sticking out and prepared for an ambush, with all three up on the surrounding trees they waited.
It was comming closer and closer almost ready to pounce and when it did Teclos shot an arrow....altho he hit the eyes perfectly, that wasn't what killed it.
Just before the arrow struck, a massive battle axe came flying over and decapitated the bird. Shocked all three of them froze, what kind of hunter uses a battle axe?
Well who ever it was they didn't speak the same language, as they couldn't recognize it.
And when the supposed "hunter" showed himself , all three of them became deathly pale
It was an orc...a towering two and a half metre green orc with manny battle scars on him. He had two tusks protruding from the mouth ,while he was very physically what trully made him scary was the aura he was giving off. And whats worse he looked Teclos right in the eyes which made his heart sink.
