Chapter 161 The hidden darkness

---

Nadine was able to run into her room, and she bolted the door with a key. For more protection, she pushed her large chair to the door and heaved a sigh of relief.

What did she just witness? Was that really a wolf? Did someone transform into that monster? Nadine was hyperventilating. She couldn't process what was happening, and then Jimmy's voice came from behind her. She jumped and came face-to-face with Jimmy.

"What the..."

How did he get into her room? Looking up, she saw the window open. Damn it. Lucky for her, that creature didn't enter through her window.

Jimmy quickly went and hugged Nadine, embracing her fully. Nadine was not expecting a hug—not after what they had just witnessed. It wasn't normal.

"I thought something happened to you, Nadine. I was scared for a moment," Jimmy exclaimed.

Nadine face-palmed. "Oh, stop it, J. Why the dramatic attitude? Don't act like you're my husband or boyfriend." Despite her act, she loved Jimmy's worried attitude. At least it showed she mattered a lot.

"You won't understand, Nadine. When you've been literally alone your whole life, you come to understand that no one has been close enough to lose." Jimmy then sat down beside the bed opposite Nadine. He had a wound on his forehead, but apparently, he didn't feel the pain.

Nadine looked at the grief-stricken guy. Why does his face have to be so cute? Why? And why does it seem like he was alone throughout his childhood?

"Jimmy, but you had Luna. Wasn't she your childhood friend?" Nadine was really curious.

"No, Nadine. I met her here in Paradise, and now she has left me. I have only you, Nadine. Please, can I stay in your room if you don't mind?"

Nadine didn't mind. After what happened outside the school, she didn't want to be left alone. The thought of it was already terrifying her.

"Thanks, Nadine. Let me take a shower before I retire for the night. I have a feeling tomorrow will be terrible."

In an empty room—which apparently was the clinic but a restricted side—a movement came from a coffin placed inside a cupboard. A figure emerged from the depths and walked majestically into the moonlight streak. It was Zeke. His eyes glowed pure dark, like the depths of hell itself. His body was completely healed, and he looked different. Then he walked out, strolling along the inner passage of the school. He came to a halt at Nadine's dormitory. Flicking his fingers, mist began forming from the space under the door.

Zeke watched as the mist engulfed his body, allowing him to pass through the door. He stopped at Nadine's bed. What he saw was Jimmy and Nadine sleeping, tucked into each other's arms. He smiled and fell into their middle, cuddling the two.

---

A huge wolf walked toward the field and stopped. It transformed back to a human in full form. Turning, it revealed itself to be Ares.

"Your Majesty, take your clothes. Your previous ones are torn," Silas said, handing brand-new clothes to Ares, who smiled grimly. Ares took them and dressed, not bothering to hide his naked body. After dressing, he made his way to the field, where other humans—up to ten of them—were gathered. They were not smiling.

"My people, I am here to say that it's time to take back what rightly belongs to us: rule over the supernaturals and the human world. I have finally located the child of light in this school. But to be sure, one of the witches on our side will perform a revelation spell. With it, we will finally conquer the world."

Ares's words made the people around him turn their necks, grinning and revealing elongated fangs in every mouth, implying they were all vampires—except Ares, who was obviously a hybrid.

"I have an important message. Zeke has awakened. His survival will make the people of Paradise suspicious. How was he able to wake from the dead?"

A member asked. Ares's mouth twitched. Zeke was resurrected? How sweet. That means he was supernatural after all. Wow. Then they must get rid of him quickly.

"Two nightwalkers should go and end him—finally. I mean before daylight. Leave right this moment." Ares's commanding voice made two heavily built vampires leave the circle.

Nadine felt weird. She was sure two huge hands were caging her, but that's impossible. She was sleeping alone. Worse still, a hand grazed her dick, making her hard instantly.

"What the fuck is that?" Nadine got up and saw Jimmy sleeping beside her. She felt someone also behind her. That was weird. Touching his dick was Zeke. Whether he was doing it on purpose or by mistake, Nadine had no idea. Realizing that Zeke, who was confirmed dead, was here sleeping beside her, she screamed insanely.

"Haaaaaa! Ghost!"

Zeke stood up instantly and faced Nadine.

"Where? Ghost? How?" Zeke was confused. Seeing Nadine hugging her chair in fear, he realized it was him. Jimmy was also awake, but he jumped instantly on seeing Zeke.

"I know this must be crazy, so tell me what's happening. You were confirmed dead. How did you enter here?" Jimmy asked, eyeing the young man.

Zeke was about to explain when a knock came at the door. Nadine went close to check it out, but Zeke's voice stopped her.

"Don't, Asher. Don't open the door. They are evil."

Nadine stopped in her tracks. What did he just say? Then she noticed a dangerous aura oozing from under the door.

The knock suddenly grew louder, more persistent, as if trying to break the door. Zeke walked to the door, placed his hands on it, and the intruders quieted down.

Nadine looked at Jimmy in confusion. Jimmy returned the look. They were both wondering what had just happened.

"Can you please explain what just happened?"

Nadine had finally reached her limit, but Zeke walked to her, squatted between them, and whispered.

"Whatever may happen, never go close to the field at night. At exactly 9 p.m., go to bed. And Mr. Ares—avoid him completely. He is evil." Zeke's eyes were distant. "He ruined me and dumped me off, but thank God I survived."

Jimmy didn't get what he was saying, but about the field, he was right. That was where they encountered the huge wolf.

"And, Nadine, can I join your friend group? Apparently, I can't let them get their hands on you."

Nadine's eyes widened. "On me? What is happening? What did I do?"

Zeke's voice came hauntingly. "They suspect you to be the last child of light, so I must prove them wrong. I can't let them destroy you, Nadine."

Jimmy ruffled his hair in frustration. "Okay, fine. How do you protect her?"

Zeke then approached Nadine and took hold of her cheeks, pulling off her blond hair and revealing his long silver hair and emerald eyes. His boyish look was now out, and Zeke's sweet voice echoed.

"Why don't we see tomorrow? By the dawn of a new day, Asher Paradise will change forever. And about your disguise—can you stay as a boy just tonight ?"

Nadine looked at both Jeremy and Zeke and sighed. These two will be the death of her. What was really happening to her? Goodness. It appeared Paradise high wasn't really a safe place for her.
