"Why did you bring me here? You could have left me, and yet... why am I here, Dexter?" Selene asked, Her voice quivers, caught between disbelief and hate. 

 "You think I wanted this? I didn't choose you, Selene. The pack... they demanded it. But now that you're here, I can’t let you go." Alpha Dexter said with an expression hard to read.

 "I’m nothing to you, How am I supposed to trust anything you say?"

He moves closer, his voice dropping to a whisper that sends a shiver through her. "You don’t have to trust me. But you should know, from this moment on, you’re under my protection. I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you safe, whether you want me to or not”

Rejected: The Alpha King's True Mate

I kept tossing and turning last night.

I found it difficult to sleep because Dexter was clearly keeping a polite distance from me.

I woke up in the middle of the night, but I kept my eyes closed and pretended to be asleep.

When Dexter's phone rang and he stepped out of the ward, I knew that someone important must have called him.

Driven by curiosity, I quietly tiptoed over to the door and eavesdropped on his conversation.

But Dexter spoke in a low voice and I couldn't get any nearer, so I could only get bits and pieces of information.

I learned that he was suspicious of me and that was why he asked someone to keep an eye on me.

He also made an appointment to meet with the other person.

Who did he ask to investigate me? Did he have suspicions regarding the baby in my womb? Who on earth was he meeting in the afternoon? Could it be Selene? I had so many questions.
