The operating room was chaotic when I entered.
Through the transparent glass, my attention was immediately drawn to the electrocardiogram monitor. It was emitting warning sounds, sending a nerve-racking sensation down my spine.
Faye's condition was even worse than I had anticipated.
Damn it!
We hadn't withdrawn any blood from her yet today. She was such a fool!
But I also blamed myself. I should have noticed that something was off about her, but I chose to believe her nonsensical words.
I couldn't believe that I had thought she would want to trade the secrets of the Orthodox werewolf Pack for her own salvation.
What a fool I was!
In hindsight, I attributed it all to my instinct.
Although I didn't want to admit it, deep down, I wanted to believe in her and get close to her. She was, after all, my second mate!
However, my true mate, Sonja, was still alive.
The Moon Goddess had played a cruel joke on me by arranging for me to have a second mate!
