New World, Same Violence (3/4)

A large thump sounded off, one that shook the ground and formed fractures on the road. The single movement of the enemy was enough to damage their surroundings, something told me that it was this man who sent Noro flying.

He was large, the biggest man you have ever seen in your admittedly short life, with bulging muscles that seemed to pulsate periodically at random intervals. The berserker wasn't wearing anything, which showed just how disgusting his body was, coupled with his labored breathing and bloodshot eyes, it gave him the impression of a madman high on drugs.

(Picture Here)

I have seen people high before, using drugs to either have a good time or to get enough energy to come back from the dead, a shot in the stomach or a missing arm not being enough to put them down.

However, I have never heard of a drug that changes a person's skin color. The Berserker's skin was completely vividly red, his veins were as equally prominent, and it looked like he was drenched head to toe in blood.

He was growling, with a face sneer on his face, I could even see drool slipping past his lips. He truly looked like an attack hound, someone who doesn't think but runs where it's pointed by its owner.

He might be strong, but with me backing up Noro there is a high chance of winning this encounter-

She stepped in front of me, the move made to clearly draw the attention of the red man.

"Listen kid, I know you want to make a difference, but now is not the time." She didn't take her eyes off the man who was double her size, simply entering a stance I remember being used by some Japanese forces. They called themselves the JDSF, hard to kill, but not impossible.

"These guys are not normal, they will not hesitate to kill you. Turn around and run, I'll take care of this guy." She wasn't gonna take no for an answer I felt like, not that her opinion mattered. I had to save the Hero, and these people were most likely the ones who matched their strength.

I had to fight. Showing Noro my intentions by stepping forward, side by side with her while staring at the approaching Red Berserker.

"Ha! I like your guts kid, make sure to not lose them." She didn't have anything to worry about, I was planning on keeping my organs all inside my body for the time being.

Outwardly, I simply nodded, before speaking up, "Capabilities?"

She was preparing herself, and the Berserker already knew both of us were too fast to be struck by a thrown projectile, he seemed content on simply menacingly walking towards us.

"He's Crimson, a member of Slaughterhouse Nine, drinks blood to make himself stronger, absolutely insane as well." Well, that explained his skin color if nothing else.

It also told me that the Nine she was talking about earlier was this organization, she thought I was part of it, do they not have a dossier on their enemies? I'll have to make sure to complete my own then, faulty intelligence gathering was critical.

Her face turned into a thoughtful scowl, finally taking her eyes off him, she glanced around, "Weird, he's normally paired with-"

I didn't give her time to finish, already springing into action, grabbing her by the shoulder and pulling her away. Just in time for a sniper round to fly by, her head had been the target.

Not hesitating, Noro had enough strength to match Crimson, she showed me that already, and just as much durability to not be injured while being sent flying while fighting him.

"You, Crimson. Me sniper!" I shout, already taking off to the side of a building, one that impeded the sight of the sniper while allowing me to run toward their location.

By calculating where it had struck, and the flight path, I already had the possible location of the sniper. However it needed to be narrowed it down, all you had was the direction of the shot.

A sniper that goes unchecked is the most dangerous player on the battlefield. I had to quickly take them down and then go help Noro finish Crimson off.

"Godammit kid, don't you dare die! It's gonna make me feel bad about myself." Was her only response.

I ignored the angered scream from the red man and the way anger quickly turned to pain as fists collided. Noro had taken my call, that was good, I didn't have to worry about Crimson while hunting down this sniper.

I knew where the bullet came from, but could I locate her in this unfamiliar setting?

It was a completely different setting than what I was used to.

Buildings too high, no open plains in sight, and so many vehicles I probably saw more of them in the past few minutes than in my entire life back home.

And glass, so much glass. It was exactly that glass that allowed me to spot the glare coming from one of the building's rooftops, 'Gadgets & We' which sounded weird, wonder what the store sold.

Okay, sniper spotted, my first dodge must have flustered them, not a single shot has rang out since the fight started. Either they had reallocated to this new position and were preparing the shot, or they were waiting for me to show myself and take me down.

Well, I wasn't gonna make this easy for them.

Time to put a lot of my gained skills into action, because you gotta scale this forty-foot-tall building.

Parkour don't fail now.

======================

Parkour has fucking failed me.

I don't usually curse, not even in the privacy of my own mind. I never saw the point of it.

But now? Fuck these buildings.

Why are they so godamn smooth? For what reason would one go so far as to smooth out the walls of a building? To stop people from scaling it perhaps but this made things much harder.

I had to resort to using the fire exit next to the wall. I wanted to scale since that would throw off anyone who was expecting me to come out from a conventional entrance, but if I can't get up there in the first place such plans are useless.

What was the expression those American soldiers did again? Oh yeah.

Fuck it, we ball!

As stealthily as possible, I went up the steel stairs, climbing up until I reached the last level.

Slowly, I open the door.

The way of parkour may have betrayed me, but stealth would always be by my side.

I remember the nights when I couldn't move a muscle while enemies walked by. A time when even a single breath might have caused my head to be cut off. Times when man looked for me, for simply stealing a loaf of bread, so much food it felt like I was feasting, and I needed to hide by faking death, rotting on the side of the streets with other corpses.

Stealth was always my friend, never once failing me, and today was not the day it started.

I managed to get in unperturbed, opening the door slightly ajar and slipping through the small crack with nary a sound. My footsteps were soft, and I scaled even higher, now on top of the door, balancing myself to find the enemy somewhere on this rooftop.

They weren't difficult to find, on their knees right in the open. I could see that it was a female, skinny, and thin, very different from Noro, she was wearing a blue coat that covered her entire body, with black puffy pants, and a hood over her head. There was a large gun strapped on her back, one I recognized as a grenade launcher. Heavy ordinance.

Honestly, she wouldn't look out of place in a Soviet battalion, looking like she was ready for the harsh winter they were so used to.

She was also using the Sniper, one I had never seen before but had a familiar Russian model, to oversee the area.

She was looking for me.

I had a chance to strike, one shot to end this right here and now, and position back with Noro.

There was no reason to hesitate. Already too much time has been lost because of this bunch, time which could have been used to search for and help the hero who was in danger.

This woman needed to be gone.

I walked forward.

Steps not being heard, like a shadow I simply skulked towards her, taking notice of how many grenades she had around her belt.

Those would be immensely useful later.

Taking the pistol off its holster in my chest, I leveled to the back of her head.

She still hasn't noticed that anything was wrong. In fact, she seemed to have given up on looking for me, her sniper once again aiming towards the fight between Noro and Crimson, who have trampled the streets, cars being tossed around like they were made of paper.

But still, she knew that a variable was out there and simply stopped looking for it?

What an amateur.

With that derisive thought, I pulled the trigger, and a loud bang went off before silence filled the area.

It was broken by the sound of her body slamming against the ground.

My first kill in this new world, finally, things are going back to what I was used to.

I take a moment to collect my thoughts, before turning to the fighting happening between Noro and Crimson.

I knew that she was strong, heck she literally ripped a sign off the ground and it's using it like a spear, to a surprisingly efficient degree.

But still, Crimson seems to be holding on through sheer brute force, whatever drug he inhaled giving him large levels of durability.

Even if I went there to help, no bullets would be able to pierce his skin.

I then look down at the body of my latest target, and the Anti-Material sniper rifle it was holding on to.

Maybe my guns wouldn't change much, but this one?

This might do the trick.
