"I trust that you want to protect me," I said, not bothering to sit up in bed. Even the pressure of the sheets against my skin was starting to feel uncomfortable, let alone the pressure I was putting on my back by lying on it.
"What I don't trust is just how much they want to hurt me," I continued, staring straight up at the ceiling. "So, I will deal with the pain of my burns; I will deal with the blisters and the peeling skin. But I will not tolerate the Rein's doctor near me."
From the corner of my eye, I could see Ma'stbaut nodding his head and I felt my muscles relaxing even more. I knew that this male would not do anything that I didn't want. I trusted him to stand between me and the world, even if it meant standing against my other mates.
"Go back to sleep, and I will make sure that the Rein's doctor doesn't go anywhere near you," assured Ma'stbaut as he gave me a kiss on my forehead. Nodding, I drifted back to sleep.
