Feel Sorry For You

The Rein once again held up his hand, and the clearing went silent again. I could see the gentle breeze rustling the leaves around us, and I knew, without a doubt, that the forest I had been dreaming about was behind me.

At least this time, I remembered to put on running shoes.

"We will kill her," promised the Rein. The roar of approval coming from his loyal followers was enough to shake the ground and startle a flock of birds from their homes in the trees. Even I, who didn't have a foot on the ground, could feel the vibrations as they shook my captors.

The males holding my arms out tightened their grip, and I watched as the one to my left clenched his jaw. "Am I really that scary?" I asked him softly. My voice traveled the short distance from my lips to his ears, but it was enough to cause him to tremble.
