Escaping Experiment

There were four girls in the room beside her. Two of them who looked alike were sitting next to each other talking all the time, so she assumed they were sisters. The other two are sitting away from each other, one of them did not speak at all, while the other only said the word "Lucky." She decided to speak with her since the girl was sitting beside her.

"How long have you been here?"

"Two years."

"Two years? How old are you?"

"Eight."

"Were you here before the others? Do you know their names?"

"Yes. Those two are twins, Emi and Emma, the other one is Yui, and I am Kira."

"I am Aiko, are we going to stay in this room forever? I am bored."

"They will call us for lunch soon, and after lunch time is break time for those who obey, they will leave us in a room filled with toys, books, and drawing stuff. Since you are new here and haven't done anything against the rules, you will play with us."

"What comes after play time?"

"They will send us back to our rooms, then call some of us and use them for their tests. Afterward is dinner, then finally sleep."

"You said you have been here for two years, have you ever thought of running?"

Kira trembled, "Running? No, never, and you shouldn't think about it either. Even if you try, they will get you, and if they do, they will kill you."

"You lived with this torture for years, don't you think death would be a blessing?"

"But I don't want to die."

"You will die eventually if you stay here."

After a few moments of silence, the door opened, and they were led to the cafeteria by one of the caretakers. As soon as they arrived, she was surprised by the small amount of children there, there were only twelve children along with her, seven boys and five girls. They were separated at two tables, she took a seat next to Kira. They started eating when the food was served by the caretakers. 

After finishing their meals, some of them were allowed to play in another room while the others were sent to their rooms, and between them was the boy with scars she saw earlier. 

There were a few games and books in this room, the twins were playing together, Kira was playing with a little boy, and Yui was sitting on a chair watching in silence. Aiko decided to read a book, so she went to the bookshelves and took one, then she sat on a chair next to Yui. She kept reading in silence until it was time to go back to their rooms. 

Aiko and Kira were chatting about their lives before they came to this place. Kira is the daughter of a caretaker who used to work in this orphanage. He wanted to inform the police about the situation in here, but he was killed before he could.

She also told Aiko that she was friends with Yui, but after they cut off her tongue and took her left eye in one of their experiments, she got depressed and isolated herself.

 It was dinner time, and they went to the cafeteria again, everyone took their seats and waited for the caretakers to bring the meals. Aiko talking to Kira: "I thought there would be more children when I first got here." Kira answered: "There was before the escaping incident."

Kira told Aiko about what happened, she said that the boy with scars who's name is Yuma tried to run away with eleven children, but someone informed the caretakers about their plan and that he was the one who came up with it. 

On the day they were supposed to escape, the guards dragged him and the other children who wanted to run with him. They tortured them to death except for him, they kept him alive so he can suffer more.

Aiko decided to speak with Yuma before the caretakers come, so she went to the other table then took a seat next to him while he stared at her strangely. Aiko said:

"Hi, you are Yuma right? I am Aiko. I heard about the whole escaping thing, and I am wondering if you still think about it"

He kept staring at her in disbelief.

"How old are you?" Said the sixteen years old.

Aiko sighed, "Nine, but that does not change the fact that I don't want to stay here."

"I don't think of running away anymore"

Aiko felt disappointed before he continued 

"I want revenge"

"So you want to kill them all? That is impossible. There are more than twenty caretakers, let alone the security guards. We have better chances of running."

"Even if I wanted to run I will not take you with me"

"Why? Do you feel guilty for your friends murder?"

Yuma silence proved her right

"They chose to run knowing they would die if they got caught. They did not die because of you, they died because of the kid who told on you. And if you want to avenge your friends wouldn't be easier to kill that kid?"

"You are right. But how am I supposed to find out who was that kid?" 

"If I helped you with your revenge, would you get me out of this place?"

"Yes I will."

Aiko smiled "Great, then let us talk about the plan tomorrow after lunch during the break period."

Before he could answer, Aiko returned to her seat because she spotted one of the caretakers coming from the corridor that leads to the cafeteria. As the caretaker entered the cafeteria, Kira who was seated next to her said whispering 

"What were you two talking about all this time?"

"I asked him about the details of the incident since I was curious and wanted to know what exactly happened."

The next morning after breakfast the kids were divided up into groups and ordered to clean the orphanage. Aiko was cleaning the storage room with a boy named Theon, who was around eleven.

As she was cleaning the shelves, she saw a cat on the floor under the last shelf, "How did this cat get here?" She thought, she then noticed a hole in the wall, it must be where the cat came from.

After lunch Aiko was sent first to the playroom and she waited for Yuma to come after her, but he did not.
