Entering the kitchen, I saw Jeanine which was surprising because her father was really strict and didn't allow the girls to go out much. She fake smiled at me,
" I need to tell you something " she said.
"It's important, I don't know who else to go to" Jeanine stated.
I took her to my office where it was soundproof.
"Okay, you can speak now" I told her
"How's Jade?"
"Where's Jade?"
"Did you guys get home together?"
"Did you leave her with that Rolan?"
"Wait, you left her alone with Rolan?"
I asked these questions consecutively.
"Would you give me the chance to at least answer one of your questions?" Jeanine said.
I waited for her to reply and she took so long, staring at me. Okay, what's wrong with this little girl and why isn't she answering me.
"Woooooow, you must really like Jade, I thought what I heard were just the usual rumours" She said smiling. I glared at her and turned my back facing the window, backing her.
"What are you saying" I asked her still backing her. Truth is when it comes to Jade, I can't almost hide my reaction towards her. Jeanine jumped up to stay beside me by the window. Putting her hand on mine, " Its okay to say you like her" she stated.
"No, it's not, what if I find my mate?" I said finally turning to face her.
"Well, I think you would cross that bridge when it comes, I really don't know what to say, I think I'm giving crappy advice but I'm very sure Jade feels the same way, are you sure we can't tell her about our kind?" Jeanine said.
"You know that's not possible unless she's mated to a werewolf or she turns into one herself due to the peculiarity of hybrids" I said.
"You said you wanted to tell me something" I changed the topic.
"Yeah, I didn't see Olivia in school today and I wanted to ask if all was alright" Jeanine said.
"Is Olivia an Omega with pink highlights on her hair by any chance" I sighed already having a migraine due to what I feared was the answer.
"Yeah"
I decided to tell her point blank "She's dead"
"Wh_ what, how, why, when?" Jeanine cried.
"I can't tell you how, but I think her death is related to all the recent attacks our pack has been getting and also related to your mother and Jade's parents deaths" I whispered the last part.
"I suspected" she finally blew out.
I frowned, waiting for my unmasked question to be answered.
"She wasn't at school, which got me kind of suspicious because she never misses a day of school even when she's not feeling too well, I decided to ask her brother about her but he wasn't at school too, I called her line and nobody picked and then I saw this note at home this morning" She said practically shaking.
"Jeanine, everything is going to be fine" I said patting her to give her some form of comfort.
She gave me the note
"What the actual fuck is going on" I stated angrily hitting the table.
"This message has just concretized our assumptions" I said.
"This guy is after this pack and all members in it, I think home and abroad" I said, facing Jeanine who was still quite shaken up.
"I think you have to go home now, let me take you home, we all have to be on guard right now, it's getting late" I said, ushering her out the door. It's time we knew the person behind all of this. If John Black is getting messages, then this is getting to a new level. After dropping Jeanine off at her place, I decided to just watch the house thinking at the same time. All of a sudden, I felt a certain cold creep up on me. Someone is probably watching me, I decided to get out of the car and investigate. I came up facing John Black squarely.
"What are you doing here?" He snapped. Gosh, this man is so icy.
"What, no how are you or how have you been?" I said, trying to joke. Though I knew this guy was all frowns and no jokes.
"Why are you here?" He repeated.
I switched to full Alpha mode.
"That's none of your business John, you would do well to protect the girls or aren't you worried that the killer might come for you guys? I heard you got a letter " I stated, thinking and pacing around him.
"This killer doesn't show up with letters without someone getting killed" I said stopping.
I faced him "Unless...." John gulped hiding a reaction I was too slow to catch. What was John hiding?
I frowned, I really hope this isn't what I'm thinking, John wouldn't kill his mate and friends, would he?
Thinking about it now, the handwriting on the letter looked familiar. Every year until last year after his friends and wife's death, he sent me birthday letters, Aunt Judith always made him write letters and she got the gifts for me.
"Unless what?" John snarled.
"You would do well to remember who your Alpha is John" I looked coldly at him. John Black has really changed.
"I remember leaving the pack Alpha" John mocked.
"I'm not under any jurisdiction concerning your pack and all it entails" he stated.
"Then you would do well to keep your daughter off it" I said.
A shocked expression came across his face.
"As far as I'm concerned, the killer is here to kill everyone in my pack, that you moved out of the pack doesn't matter because you also got a letter" I said.
"What letter are you going on about?" he said.
I gave him the letter wanting to gauge his expression to seeing the letter.
"Seems familiar?" I asked him, trying to get an answer at least from him.
Schooling his features, John looked at me.
"What are you trying to say?" He finally asked.
"You tell me" I countered.
"Whatever you think is your business, just don't bring my family and I into it" John bowed and left.
Getting back into the car and angrily slamming the door, I watched as John walked into the house. The cold creepy feeling hadn't left. I can't prove anything now that John is behind the killings because I really don't understand what he stands to gain from doing that. The letter points out that that might be his handwriting. It doesn't matter though, anyone can have his handwriting, right?
I'm thinking of possibilities here. I refuse to believe John did this.
Getting home, I go straight to my office, opening my drawer, I bring out the paper I saw on the omega and the rogue child. Lo and behold, the handwritings are similar. But why would John do that? I sigh, sinking into a chair. Looking at the time, it was pretty late, I decided to do some paperwork before going to sleep.
🐺
The next morning went the usual way. Yesterday was Friday, so no school today. I decided to have a meeting with the Beta and Gamma. Immediately they entered, I gave them the paper.
"Where did you get this from?" Luke asked.
"John Black" I answered, drinking a glass of water, I stood up and walked towards the window.
"How? Why is John Black getting letters? Who died this time?" Jesse asked.
"No one" I said finally facing them.
"I'm not the only one thinking this right? I remember this handwriting but anyone can forge a handwriting right?" I asked again.
Answering their unspoken question "That handwriting is exactly like John Black's"
"What!!! But why would he do that?" Luke asked.
"That's what I don't get, he can't kill his friends and mate right?" I asked.
"I really don't know, there are some really sick people these days" Jesse stated.
"Thing is I asked him and he all but denied it" I said
"Thinking about it, he's one of the only few that swore to keep this place a secret after deciding to become a lone wolf, he knows this pack in and out, our shift times, number of guards stationed at each points, the strengths of the warriors and the pack" I said angrily.
This is really annoying.
I probably shouldn't have mentioned his daughter being here.
"How did you get the letter then?" Luke asked again.
"Jeanine brought this yesterday" I stated.
"What if she was told to give you the letter?" Jesse said
"I don't know but John Black looked pretty shocked when I showed him the letter, if I'm right about anything, he's going to give Jeanine a long scolding" I said.
"Guards are to be doubled up within every station" getting back to Alpha mode, I ordered.
"No station should be left unprotected for more than 5 seconds, I don't know how that's going to be but make it work" I ordered.
"We need to catch this killer asap, I have a feeling something big is coming up soon" with my luck, it might be on my birthday celebration (my mum insists on celebrating it every year and since I'm turning 18, she's going to make it a bigger deal because it's the age a werewolf gets his or her mate, she's definitely not going to listen to any of my protests).
After Luke and Jesse left, I decided to go for a run.
