Chapter 54

Suddenly, hasty shouts rang out from outside the door.

Le Xaan rose to his feet and glanced through the doorway, seeing a male servant scurrying in. He first gasped for air and then yelled,

"Young Lady Cinci has been discovered! At a run-down monastery on the outskirts!"

On the outskirts of Gourian City, there were three monasteries, but only one among them could be considered dilapidated.

North of the city, a mountain range adjacent to the Northern Ice Ocean's seashore stretched far into the distance. A hermitage was situated in the midst of the mountain range, worshiping an exotic deity, and few knew when it was first built.

Le Xaan had been there a few times while going hiking.

There was a time when they had to seek shelter in that temple when the heavens abruptly opened up with a heavy rain.

"Are you talking about the monastery adjacent to the seashore?"Le Xaan pressed.

"Yes, it is." the servant immediately answered, "Miss Quane Feiy said that the missing people are very possibly being herded at that place. And she asked us to go there and take a look ourselves."

"How about Reverend Youny?"

"He had already set off for that place!"

Le Xaan squinted and considered for moments. His body was barely recovered; therefore, he'd better not head for the monastery personally.

But such a good opportunity was hard to come by.

Youny Geey, according to himself, did not plan to stay in Gourian City for too long. He and Dquan Ronri were just dropping by the city to glean some clues.

"To coax out some immortality-cultivation methods or ghost-exorcising techniques from Youny Geey, I have to try every possible means!"

Le Xaan originally planned to get some manuals of that sort from Young Geey.

Since there were Ghost-Spirit's type of entities, immortality cultivation methods seemed less surprising to exist.

Reaching this point, Le Xaan gave his order,

"Let's go to have a look. Call a dozen of guards to go along."

"Understood!"Veur Hamvy immediately acknowledged.

............

The evening winds howled, bringing about a chill seeping into bones.

Amid the rolling mountains, a column of men were racing on horseback. With torches in hand, they appeared like a slithering red thread.

In the lead was Le Xaan, wrapped in a thick fur coat with Veur Hamvy at his heel.

Their pack soon found the route mentioned by Quane Feiy leading to the dilapidated temple.

While holding their torches, they were armed with a variety of weapons, such as swords and bows, and each wore a suit of leather armor and helmets. From an outsider's perspective, they would have easily been mistaken for a group of soldiers on a mission.

Weathering the freezing cold winds, they proceeded hundreds of paces down the road. Finally, they laid eyes on a ramshackle grayish-brown monastery in the bosom of woods.

A plume of flame was currently flickering in the pitch-black hermitage. And Le Xaan's group could faintly hear the shouts of a man.

After they drew near, no more than a hundred steps away, Le Xaan raised his hand to signal for his men to halt in their footsteps.

Now, they could roughly tell that the one who was yelling was very likely Youny Geey.

"Young Master Xaan, what should we do now?"

Veur Hamvy was a little nervous, his forehead covered in sweat.

"Just wait." Le Xaan pulled the fox fur coat tighter around his body, the snowy white furry collar pressing to his neck, allowing for more warmth.

"Don't do anything rash. If we were to approach too closely now, we would only get in the way of Reverend Youny."

Le Xaan said in a low voice.

They waited for some time before the torchlight in the hermitage became brighter, and Youny Geey's shouts grew louder.

Le Xaan waited on the spot in quietude until no more shouts sounded out from the monastery. He signaled one of the guards to give him a torch.

With it in hand, he took steps toward the place of worship.

Veur Hamvy was of a mind to persuade Le Xaan against doing that. But he held himself back with a second thought.

"Keep up!" Veur Hamvy barked and tagged along behind Le Xaan.

The rest of the group now was a little fearful but still mustered the courage to follow in behind Le Xaan.

Even though they were not going to fight Ghost Spirits, the thought of such eerie entities instilled fear in them. Most of these guards lacked sufficient combat experience. It's commendable of them not to turn tail and run at once.

Le slowly approached and eventually paused in his steps twenty paces away from the temple.

Then, he glanced into it.

Through a worn-down gate, he could clearly see Youny Geey was in combat with a blurry white silhouette, wielding a steel sword.

Moments later, the white figure was stabbed by the sword and let out a miserable cry reminiscent of a little girl's voice.

Then, it fell to the ground and vanished.

Youny Geey now wore a flushed face, a mist of vapor rising around his head while sheathing his blade.

This place was in the depth of the mountain range adjacent to the Northern Ice Ocean. When you exhaled here, your breath of air would turn into a white puff.

By then, Youny Geey also spotted Le Xaan's group.

"Young Master Xaan took his men here."

Dquan Ronri, who had been hiding in a corner of the yard, also cropped up.

"How thrilling! Ghost Spirits typically act solitarily, but we have encountered three of them here! What a stroke of bad luck!"

As she recalled the situation earlier on, she still had a lingering fear.

"It's okay. They are all eradicated now." Youny Geey said with a calm voice. "Let's go to greet Young Master Xaan. The monastery's tunnel must accommodate the missing people."

"Oh yeah! After we complete this task, we can earn our journey expenses for a long period to come." Dquan Ronri now cheered delightedly. She dusted herself off and then walked toward Le Xaan's group.

Youny Geey shook his head with resignation, his face betraying his tiredness. Then, he fell in behind Dquan Ronri.

Le Xaan displayed a smile on his face as he walked over.

"Reverend..."

The moment this word escaped his lips, a sound like tearing fabric echoed out.

"Whoosh..."

Another white silhouette shot out from a shadowy corner and charged at Le Xaan's group!

"Oh no! It is going to possess somebody!"
