~RING~RING!
The bell rang, signaling the end of orientation. Students began to scatter, each heading towards their designated homerooms.
"Homeroom's in room 105," Kayn murmured, glancing at the paper in his hand and making his way to the second floor. Violet was a different class, so they split apart for the moment.
Kayn's mind automatically began to map the space, noting exits, the layout of classrooms, and the general flow of foot traffic. Old habits died hard.
He found room 105 near the end of the hall. The classroom was a standard high school setup, with rows of desks, a whiteboard at the front, and posters encouraging students to read, learn, and succeed.
The classroom was already half full, students milling about, chatting, or finding their seats. He scanned the room quickly, taking note of the layout and the faces.
Most of the students didn't pay him any mind, too focused on their own discussions, though a few girls glanced his way, likely drawn by his distinctive appearance. Kayn chose a seat near the back, by the window, where he could have a good view of the room and the outside.
Kayn instinctively began accessing his teammates. Most looked like typical high school students—chatty, energetic, and slightly nervous on the first day back. A group of girls at the front whispered and giggled, while a pair of boys in the middle row were comparing schedules.
The boy sitting near the window had a confident posture—probably an athlete. The girl in the oversized hoodie seemed introverted, avoiding eye contact with anyone.
As Kayn's eyes continued to survey and access his various classmates, his gaze naturally came to the girl next to him.
The girl had a youthful appearance, a fair complexion with delicate features, an athletic build hidden mostly by her casual clothing. Her long blonde hair falling in soft waves just past her shoulders, and her vivid bright blue eyes cloaked in glasses focused over a notebook as she scribbled something with incredible focus, absorbed in her own world.
Kayn's magical senses were tingling that she was special. Powerful in some way, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He'd read her mind, but he wasn't so unethical to do that to a stranger, and if they were immune and figured out somehow, that'd be a terrible first impression.
Kayn eventually went to look away, but spotted the girl glancing up and catching his eyes. It seems her senses were also decently sharp.
"Is there a flower on my face?" The girl asked curiously as soon as her eyes met Kayn's.
"Can't I look at my classmates?" Kayn replied back, as he just stared into her eyes, almost trying to annoy her even more.
The girl just looked away and didn't bother giving him any more attention, refocusing on her notebook as Kayn waited for homeroom to begin, eventually drawing his eyes away from her.
As the minutes ticked by, more students filed in, and the noise level rose. Kayn remained quietly observant, noting the dynamics of the room.
Most students already knew each-other from middle school or summer clubs, leaving only a handful of students isolated. Still, Kayn remained calm, the occasional girl passed by and greeted him, curious about him as his appearance stood out alot.
Kara remained quiet beside him, her focus returning to her notebook. Kayn couldn't help but notice the way her grip tightened on her pen, the slight tension in her shoulders. She seemed nervous, though about what, he couldn't be sure.
Just then, the homeroom teacher entered—a middle-aged man with graying hair and a kind smile.
"Good morning, everyone," Mr. Andrews began, smiling warmly. "Welcome back to another year at National City Technical High. I'm Mr. Andrews, and I'll be your homeroom teacher this semester. I hope you all had a restful summer and are ready to get back to work."
There was a collective groan from the students, but Mr. Andrews took it in stride. "Now, I know the first day can be a bit overwhelming, especially for those of you who are new here. So, let's start with a little introduction. When I call your name, just say here and maybe share something you did over the summer."
The introductions started at the front of the class, with students offering varying degrees of enthusiasm as they shared basic facts about themselves. When it finally came to Kayn's turn, he felt a few curious eyes on him, but he remained calm and composed.
He stood up, his height and presence immediately commanding attention. "Hey everyone, I'm Kayn Forrester," he began, his voice steady and clear. "I'm new to National City, just moved here recently." He paused briefly, scanning the room with a friendly yet confident smile.
"As for something interesting about me… well, I travel alot. I've been to many countries in Europe such as Greece, France, Norway and Denmark,"
"Sounds amazing." Mr. Andrews said, "Next, Ms. Danvers?"
The girl next to Kayn stood up, with Kayn finally having a strong idea of her identity after hearing her name, "Hi..Hello, I am Kara Danvers, also new to National City." Kara slowly spoke, seemingly uncomfortable at speaking in front of so many unknown people.
"As for something about myself, I am a big fan of fantasy movies." She said before sitting.
The rest of the homeroom period passed uneventfully. Mr. Andrews went over some basic rules and expectations, typical first-day stuff. Kayn listened with half an ear, his mind already drifting to other matters.
Particularly which version of Supergirl this was. She looked like a young Melissa Benoist now that he saw more of her face during her introduction, yet Arrowverse Supergirl shouldn't be in National City as yet.
Kayn had to assume that she was just an amalgamation of various Supergirl stories. However that also ruined any plan he could make at how to approach her, as Supergirl's personality varied alot from her different appearances in comics or animated movies & shows.
Still, he could make light inferences from how she acted around him and her introduction. From what he knew, Kara was a very moody person, with regular swings.
To her family Alex and her mother, Kara is extremely kind-hearted, compassionate and selfless due to living with them for so long and having come to truly treat them as family.
However, towards others, Kara is slightly insecure, impulsive, immature, emotional and short tempered. Although it has tamed slightly in recent years, she still comes across as an angry, bratty girl with mood swings lacking confidence in herself.
Having survived the destruction of Krypton, Kara usually had a huge case of "Survivor Guilt" and suffered from PTSD. Being more of an immigrant than Superman, Kara struggled to adapt to Earth's very different culture, leaving her very alienated and lonely. She grew closer to her sister over time however.
Eventually, the bell rang again, signaling the end of homeroom. As students began to gather their things, Kayn turned to Kara, who was hastily stuffing her notebook into her bag.
"You have Math right? Wanna head together?" Kayn asked mostly just to see how Kara responded to him.Judging from her introduction, she was still rather introverted on Earth around people who aren't her family, especially now in a new city.
Kayn mostly just wanted to learn more about this Supergirl and how to approach her. In the comics, although SuperGirl wasn't a total killer, due to her past trauma and anger issues, she wasn't adversed to using rougher means than other Justice League members, which Kayn could potential use in the future.
Kara seemed surprised by the offer, her blue eyes widening slightly. For a moment, it looked like she wanted to say something, but then she simply nodded. "Thanks, Kayn."
With that, she slung her bag over her shoulder and followed him out of the room.
"So where did you come from? My family and I travelled from Europe to live here in National City." Kayn asked and said.
"We came from Midvale, my mother got a new job here in National City so she moved us all." Kara responded.
Kayn listened and thought in his mind. This seemed more like Supergirl with the Arrowverse Background, but with a unique personality, judging from her connection to Midvale and her looks.
Kayn and Kara continued talking, asking each-other basic, boring questions as they moved towards their class.
Kara did have many of the personality traits he thought, insecure, uncomfortable on Earth still, not talking much due to her traumatic past. Still she was less of a pushover and emotional as Young Arrowverse Supergirl, having much more of the classic Supergirl anger issues from the comics.
Kayn continued talking with her as they arrived near their Math class, when Kayn suddenly got a call from Francis,
"Boss, you can come over at the headquarters this evening.
Your Suit is Ready!"
