You know, when you are sent to a new world. One would think you would be sent to a part of the world that is safe and peaceful. Where there are no monsters trying to rip you from limb to limb, where clean water is bountiful, and where finding an intact carcase would be easy. ESPECIALLY in a world that is filled with magic that supposedly increases the amount of life a world contains.
But that isn't what I got. Instead what I got on the first day was a fucking continent filled with creatures made of shadowy fogs and have red glowing eyes and teeth trying to tear me from limb to limb. For more context on what happened my first day allowed me to dive deeper.
Day 1.
I was dropped into a new world and the first thing I see are dead trees, rotted and dried up grass, a dark cloud covered sky, and the roars of what I think are the damned. Not the first couple moments in my new life I must say. Before I could grasp my situation, the back of my body began to shiver out of nowhere and suddenly I bent my body to the left and saw a dark hand with white glowing claws stabbing where my head would be at. My body suddenly creates distance between whatever tried to kill me and I see something that I can only describe as nightmare fuel. Its body was covered in a dark gas that showed no signs of there being skin or flesh underneath it. Its eyes, dagger like teeth, its claws on its hand and feet, and the spikes on its back were glowing white. Its body looked human, but had a mixture of animal in it as I could see some form of scales on the dark gas that made its body and a dark gaseous reptile tail that swayed back and forward.
I felt my body freeze up as the creature's gaze met my own and we both stood there standing and staring at one another for seconds. I shook out of fear when I saw the creature slowly approach me, its body swinging left and right. I took a step back and, as if me taking a step back was a signal for a race, the creature burst towards me at such a fast speed that my eyes couldn't trace it. Hell, I didn't even notice that it left its spot until it was standing directly in front of me.
The creature stopped several inches in front of my face and in less than a second, it raised its right arm high up in the air and swung it down at me. In that single moment time seemed to slow down as I stared at the incoming claw as if it was a guillotine aiming to chop off my head. Then my world began to spin as I just stared in front of me. I was confused as to why it was spinning, until I saw my headless body standing in front of the creature.
My head hit the ground hard as I just stared at my body falling onto the floor, blood gushing out and the creature staring at my lifeless corpse. I sort of expected my vision to turn dark like how I died last time, but that didn't happen. Instead I felt something surge from my head downwards. I began to feel something strange, it sort of felt like a sleepy muscle or something along the lines of that. It just felt weird for several seconds before it suddenly felt normal once again.
The creature looked at my direction and just stared at me for several seconds before charging at me with incredible speeds once again. I was shocked at what it did and instinctively tried to move my body, even though I didn't have one. But my head somehow magically dodged the creature's claw that pierced the ground where my head used to be.
I laid flat on my stomach as I stared confused at the creature. I was confused as to why I was able to dodge the attack or how I wasn't dead yet even though I was just a head. That was until I felt a slight breeze run across me, or in truth my body. I looked down and saw my lower body there and not bleeding out. When I looked back I saw my headless body still bleeding out.
It was then that I remembered and realized what my Birth Magic was. "I'm immortal" I shouted just before my head was crushed under the claw of the creature. What remained was just blood and brain matter.
Day 2.
I was able to escape and hide from the creature. So it turns out my Birth Magic wasn't immortality in a sense. The immortality was sort of a part of it, but it was just a side effect. My Birth Magic in truth was just the ability to control lighting, electricity? I don't really know, all I know was that I was able to generate some sort of red colored lighting from my body and have some sort of control over it. I learned this part of my Birth Magic when I accidently released it at the creature, injuring its body and buying me some time to run away.
I tried practicing with my Birth Magic, trying to figure out how to activate it and how to properly use it. If I'm being honest it was sort of hard to do at first, since my first time was on pure accident. But after several minutes, hours? After some time I was able to generate small red sparks from my fingers. I was thrilled and continued to practice for what I am sure is hours.
After hours of practicing I discovered some major abilities of my Birth Magic. The first was that my Birth Magic allowed me to generate red electricity from my body and can bend it to my will, sort of. I can make it form into a red lighting stick and anything more complicated from that requires a ton of mental strength and something that I discovered. Magic. I totally didn't discover the fuel for my Birth Magic when I focused on where it originated from and when finding said space totally didn't send sparks of electricity to it, causing my body to explode into a red mist. On a side note I discovered the immortal part of my ability sort of activates automatically and that I didn't need to focus on it to heal a cut or a blown up body.
Anyways at the end of the day I was able to get a good control over my Birth Magic and felt confident enough to face that creature again.
Day 3.
So it turns out that the land I am on is filled with those dark fog creatures as I was being chased by a tidal wave of them. To make a long story short, I found the creature that tore me a new one on Day 1, attacked it and injured it enough that it began to cry. I grinned when it cried, but that quickly disappeared when I saw the nearby trees shake and hundreds of white eyes and teeth looking at me. So it turns out the creature wasn't truly crying and was in fact telling its comrades that I was here and to come and help it.
Which brings us to the moment where I am running for my dear life. Sure, I couldn't truly die since my Birth Magic would heal me, but that doesn't mean I still wasn't afraid of death or anything like that. And I also still felt pain so there was that. But as I ran I knew that I couldn't run forever. For I was still human and required rest to stay alive. So in time, one would make mistakes and the one I made was to trip on a root that I didn't notice because of exhaustion. That single mistake caused me to get mauled to death by the dark wave of teeth and claws.
As I constantly died and revived I would use my birth magic to try and force the creatures off of me, I would be able to push some away, even injure them if I was lucky. As I continued to fight for my survival I didn't realize at the time that the more I attacked and used my Birth Magic, the stronger and more durable my red lighting stick became, more durable in a sense. Over time the number of creatures would decrease as my Birth Magic slowly became stronger and stronger. It got strong to the point that I was slowly able to turn the red stick into a red stick with sharp parts on it.
Before long the wave disappeared and I was left alone heavily breathing with a red distorted sword in my hand. Though it was not perfect and had some dull parts on the blade part, it was still a sword in the end. I smiled that day and collapsed because of exhaustion.
Day 4.
I decided to search for a base that day or at least a spot that I can use to start my base. It went as well as you would think. I traveled the land searching high or low, would discover a good spot, discover several creatures living in that spot forcing me to run away or stay and fight. Which would cause me to run away later as they would call for backup.
I spent half the day searching for a base and as I lost hope I finally found something. It was a ruined stone town. At first I was shocked since I didn't expect there to be some form of civilization in this land due to the amount of creatures that inhabited this land, but when I arrived at the stone town I realized that this town might have been built before the arrival of these creatures because of three key features. One the town seemed to have been abandoned, not attacked since I saw no signs of a battle happening here. Two, I found some journals that spoke about how green this land was and how beautiful the blue sky was, which by the way is weird since the sky is always covered in a black cloud. And number three, there were no signs of these creatures stepping foot here. You see in the first three days here I noticed how these creatures would sort of mark the lands with their claws. Don't know why they do it, but they do it. But I haven't seen a claw mark in the town at all, so I explored and tried to discover why.
Took me an hour or two, I can't really tell the time when you can't see the sun or moon, before I discovered the reason as to why these creatures wouldn't enter the town. At the center of the town was a stone fountain that gushed out a yellow liquid. At first I thought it was, well you know, but when I smelled the smell of honey and sweets permeating in the air I couldn't resist it and began to drink it. I know it might sound bad when drinking a liquid you have no clue where it came from or what it has inside of it, but when you have been dying constantly and smell odors so horrible and drank water that killed you, you sort of lose your sense of reason.
As I drank this liquid, I suddenly felt my body burst in strength and energy. It felt like I was being overcharged with energy and I had to do something with it or else I would lose my mind. And so I began doing push ups, running around town, and several other things in hopes of getting tired. I kept doing this until I passed out.
Day 5.
So it turns out what I drank was a liquid called Ichor. I discovered this when I remembered what the being, if I remember correctly was named 'The Keeper', said about Ichor being a golden liquid and seeing how the liquid flowing in the fountain was sort of golden and the fact I felt so energized and strong. Well you get the point. And also as to how I know that the Ichor was the reason as to why those creatures don't come to this town.
Well lets just say I took a handful of the liquid, went out of town, and tossed it on a creature I saw. I didn't have to even throw it as when I got close enough to it, the creature would just look at me and cry in fear before running away. I did this about three more times and got the same result. Of course I didn't waste the Ichor because the moment I returned to town I drank the handful of Ichor I had and did some exercise.
Also another side effect I realized from consuming Ichor was that it would permanently strengthen one's body as I discovered my once frail and skinny body suddenly became bigger and developed some muscles on it. Of course such effects couldn't happen because of simply working out so it only made sense that it was because of his intake of Ichor.
Now at first I was planning to drink the entire fountain, but quickly realized that if there was a finite amount of Ichor in the fountain then I would basically have no form of protection from the creatures that live outside the town. So I made a rule for myself, that I would only drink less than half a handful of Ichor every two hours. The reason I set this rule up was because one it didn't matter how much Ichor I ingested as it would still have the same effect and two it would not only save up the amount of Ichor was left, but also allow me to gain some strength.
So for the rest of the day I decided to just explore the town and sort of workout when I got bored.
Day 6.
After I was done exploring the town I had gathered several piles of clothes for men, some books and journals, some items that I was hoping to use for some things I had planned, and a key. Now you might understand the books, journals, and items as they are important for my survival in this new world. But the clothes and key? Well the reason is simple, since at day one I had no clothes on my person. Not when I awoke, not when I had my head crushed, not even when I ran away. For my entire stay here I was butt naked, running away and fighting with nothing but the wind covering my body. So finally being able to wear some clothes after five days is such a relief. As for the key, well I can't keep the clothes and items outside since they might get ruined by something unexpected and so I got the key, or well keys, for several houses that were next to each other. In total four houses that were basically set up like a grid, two at the top and two at the bottom.
I didn't really need the keys since I don't think anyone would attempt to rob the place or even reach here without getting mauled to death by the creatures. But it felt normal having some keys in your pockets. Huh, normal, never thought I would ever say that again.
Anyways I had set the objects into their respective houses. The clothes in the top right house, the random items in the top left house, books and journals in the bottom left, and my natural living space in the bottom right house.
After setting everything up I got changed and looked at myself in the mirror I had found. Sure it was shattered because of someone's butter fingers, but it still functioned the same way. I looked at myself and was sort of embarrassed with how I looked. I had an old worn out leather coat that reached down to my calves and had a split in the middle that reached my waist. The sleeves had some sort of fur on it making it look sort of rich. I had a black shirt that sleeves only reached the upper parts of my arm and black pants that were worn out and seemed beaten up. I also had a small top hat, a metal cane that seemed to be meant for someone rich. Though I didn't keep the top hat on since it made me look stupid, I kept the cane since it was actually nice to hold.
"God, couldn't the people before wear something less rich looking" I muttered as I stared at the pile of men's clothing that looked exactly the same thing as the one I had picked up. The only difference was the pants were varying from degrees of damage and the shirts varied from the shade of black they had.
"Better to wear something then nothing" I said as I walked out of the house and walked towards the house that held the books. Upon entering the house I picked up a book and began reading its contents. I did this for the rest of the day, stopping to either drink some Ichor or to get a new book.
Day 7.
I have gathered all the knowledge I needed and was currently looking at several items I had laid out in front of me. The first item on the table was a pair of gloves that had gems on the surface of the hand, the right one having a green gem and the left one a blue one. Now from what the book said these gloves were called storage gloves and would activate as follows. If I put magic into the right glove it would allow me to store any object inside the space shared by the two gems. The size only mattered depending on the amount of magic you put into it and when the object is trapped inside time would sort of stop moving for the said object. Now the left glove, unlike its partner, if you put magic into this glove and thought of a certain item stored inside of the glove it would release the said object outside the storage space. Course how it gets out depends on the magic, for if you put a small amount of magic it will just plop into your hand and if you put too much, then it will sort of shoot it out. Sort of learnt that when I didn't know how to control the output of the magic when I was testing the gloves and had a bowl blow my head to bits. Also did I mention that you must be touching an object to store it and that the released object will come out of the palm. Really wish they wrote that down before I accidentally stored my leather cloak and shot it out, causing it to tear apart.
Now the second object was a cloak made of black feathers that are so tightly knit together that you would mistaken it for a leather cloak if you don't inspect it at a close range. Now this item was something I needed since it would allow me to basically face through solid objects depending on how long I continue to supply it with magic. Now it might sound good since I can basically phase through objects, but that is only if I give a continuous supply of magic. I'm not going to further detail, but let's just say when I tried to walk through a boulder and almost made out the other end, I forgot to continue supplying it with magic and had my left hand severed off. Thankfully I wasn't wearing the gloves at the time or else that would have been bad.
The third item was just a daily need type of object and it was just a necklace with a red ruby in the center of it followed with ten blue gems surrounding it. The effects of the necklace was simple, it would regenerate, fix, and clean any clothing the user is wearing if supplied with magic. This may not sound like a big deal, but if you have a finite amount of clothing and live on a land where creatures that wish to rip your heart out of your mouth exist. Having something that can clean and fix your clothes is helpful.
The last object was something very needed and it was a small golden locket that when opened, showed a map. The effects of the locket were simple, as long as you walked around with the locket, it would record and map out your surroundings in a ten mile radius. Having this item on probably day four was needed because the amount of time I had walked in a circle and got lost was too many to count.
Now with everything I currently have equipped on my person is accounted for, allow me to explain what I have discovered from reading the books. So supposedly this land was once green and filled with life and the kingdom that ruled this land at the time was at the peak of technology. They reached so high that they didn't need physical labor as they were able to use magic to do the work for them. But one day they supposedly discovered something they shouldn't have when they were researching the history of their world and basically began to evacuate their people. They created ships and sent their civilians out into the world in hopes that they could survive the threat and kept those who were willing to fight back at their main land. That is where my current knowledge ends. The threat they discovered were most likely the creatures that plague this land and were most likely overwhelmed.
Though the history of the land wasn't much and basically talked about how great their kingdom was. It still helped me a bunch since it showed me a layout of their old kingdom and what its name was. The name of the kingdom was called The Cadre, which I found funny for some reason since it didn't sound like a name of a kingdom but a group. But who am I to judge for how they name their kingdoms.
"Well, I guess it's time for me to get ready" I said as I grabbed the feathered cloak and wrapped it around me, grabbed the gloves and put them on my hand, wrapped the necklace around my neck, and placed the golden locket in my right pocket. I walked out the house, after I grabbed my metal cane that was near the door, and stared at the dark cloudy sky.
I grabbed the golden locket from my pocket and opened it up. I smiled as I stared at the map that was slowly being created.
