When morning came, everything in the Patel mansion was as it should have been. The garden boys tended to the gardens, the maids were making breakfast and Ophelia was getting ready to go back to college. She was already in her last year, she could not afford to slack behind, after getting ready and having breakfast she stood in the living room and stopped a servant.
"Tell my mother I've gone to school, l can't be late" she said as she rushed to the door.
Before she could place her hand on it the door opened on it's own, on the other side stood a sweaty and nervous looking guard.
"What is it?" Ophelia asked in displeasure.
"Erm...young miss...a gentleman claiming to be a detective is here to make an arrest" he said nervously.
"An arrest? On what basis?" She asked as her heart palpitated.
"He said they have reasons to believe that young miss was involved in a murder case. They are calling for madam" he said.
Ophelia's hands trembled and she accidentally dropped her phone in daze.
"No..that can't be" she said in a low voice.
Suddenly a voice came from behind the guard.
"I don't have all day, bring miss Patel out!" The detective shouted.
He hated dealing with these wealthy families that thought they were on top of the world and could disregard other people's lives as if they were animals. Therefore he always acted unreasonably with them when he dealt with such cases, now that he heard a minor was involved in a murder case it made him more furious. How could the parents be so irresponsible that they let their child commit such a heinous crime?
Upon hearing the commotion, Mrs Patel rushed down only to see her stupefied daughter leaning on the wall looking dejected. She wanted to go ask her if she was okay but she felt that the sudden appearance of a detective and the police force demanded more attention.
"Good morning officers, welcome to my humble abode. What can l do for you?" She asked with an elegant smile on her lips.
"My name is Detective Carson Blade, I have come with an arrest warrant for your daughter Remi Patel. We have reasons to believe that she might have been involved in a potential murder case involving her three classmates." He said as he let them digest that bit of information.
Mrs Patel was shocked, that useless girl dared to kill people?
Ophelia was even more shocked, they were there to arrest Remi and not her? Thinking of this, her strongly beating heart finally calmed down and she felt happy she could get rid of Remi for good.
"She will be subjected to legal processes in this investigation as the suspect, and as a parent you have the right to be present during the questioning. If you have any information about her whereabouts l suggest you tell me now before l barge into your house" Detective Carson said.
"Right this way, I'll send a servant to go call her, she's in her room, she hasn't gone to school yet" Mrs Patel happily escorted the detective and the five police officers to the living room.
Seeing this, the detective was bewildered.
'isn't this woman a little too happy?'
Mrs Patel sent a servant to go call Remi and another to go get the guests some beverages. But after waiting for a while, the servant came back to report that Remi wasn't in her room.
"What do you mean she's not in her room? She hasn't gone to school yet has she? Go check in the backyard, she must be doing her daily exercises" Mrs Patel said.
Before the servant girl could leave, the one she had sent to go get some beverages came back with a perturbed expression.
Seeing she was empty handed, Mrs Patel was irked.
"Your excuse better be good" she said angrily not even concerned she was in front of guests
"Well...erm...madam..l-uh...found the youngest young miss" she said timidly.
"You are wasting our time, we'll go get the girl ourselves, lead the way" detective Carson said looking at the servant.
The servant looked at Mrs Patel, seeing her nod, the servant led the way to the kitchen. Upon getting to the storage room Mrs Patel stopped them.
"This is a restricted area, I'll go get the girl myself" she said filmy.
Detective Carson was vexed but he respected their privacy.
"Be quick or I'll come in myself" he said haughtily.
After waiting for a few moments, the detective was stunned to see the servant supporting the unsteady young girl. Looking at her bloodshot eyes and sluggish movements, he made a bold guess that he hoped wasn't true.
"You let her get drunk?" He asked angrily.
"This brat! How dare she steal our special wines" Mrs Patel scolded.
Remi tried her best to keep her eyes open but she felt that the world was too bright and squinted her eyes. When she looked again, there seemed to be a man in a white lab coat In front her holding a big needle in his hands. Seeing this Remi's body shivered in fright, as if remembering how the needle felt when it pierced her skin.
"No...please...I beg you no more...it hurts...it hurts so much" she sobbed weakly.
Seeing the little girl crying so pitifully as if she was in a daze only made the detective more angry.
"Mrs Patel, you are under arrest for child neglect, as it appears that you have failed to provide a safe and nurturing environment for your daughter Remi. By allowing her to consume alcohol, you have put her health at risk, please put your hands behind your back. You have the right to remain silent as anything you say will be used against you in the court of law" Detective Carson said as he gesture at the officers to make the arrest
" What? How can you arrest me? I'm not even that girl's mother!" She screeched.
As she resisted, she was forcefully apprehended, Ophelia stood at the side unsure of what to do. At that moment Remi slumped over and vomited a lot before laying on the floor holding her belly in pain.
"Just...kill me....please...l-l can't take this anymore" she cried as she hiccuped.
Seeing that Remi was in no condition to be arrested, detective Carson ordered the servants to go place her in the van outside so she could get treated at the hospital.
Remi felt her head pounding as all sorts of images were conjured up in front of her, she didn't know if they were illusionary or real. Their hazy images suggested that they were fake but when the huge injections were pierced into her body, she felt excruciating pain.
One needle pierced her stomach repeatedly making her curl up in pain while the other pierced the back of her neck making her brain feel bloated. She was in so much pain that she wanted to die, she couldn't even speak or think anymore as the never ending pain hit her in waves over and over again until she couldn't take it anymore. Her mind automatically shut down in self defence, only then did her sweaty and shivering tense body finally relax.
