First Day At Work

There was no answer and Lyra let the thought stand still since she didn't know the stranger very well, then again, her phone rang and it was the unknown caller, Lyra answered and it was exactly from another loan shark, "young miss, you shouldn't ignore calls like that when you are just a nobody, you should be begging for your life but you had the guts to ignore calls? I am going to meet you in a week's time if the money your father owe isn't ready by then, and I promise you that it will be worth it", The loanshark ended the call without letting Lyra say a word. Lyra's heart already sank, she have no idea how to get out of this mess so she thought within herself that if she's close to Stephen, then she would pay this loan shark first since Stephen will give her some time. She was that type of person who knows how to use every opportunity but hardly do a wonderful opportunity like this crosses her path, since this one came, she's going to grab it all.

Leaning on the wall, Lyra fell asleep with her mind ready to get to work at Stephen's company tomorrow.

"Beep beep", the noise of the alarm woke Lyra up, opening her eyes, she remembered that she's going to apply for a week today and maybe she would get to start today, she never believed in shortcuts but here she is doing what she hated to do, shortcuts was the only way to escape the delay of waiting to be called for an interview and the call of employment, for she thought that if she use those protocols, she might fail the interview. Her desperation has come to far to consider doing things properly. Hearing the sound of the alarm again, Lyra sat up and hurried to the bathroom. It seems like Lyra is in a tight spot, desperate to escape the loan shark's threats and willing to take shortcuts to achieve her goals. Here's a continuation of the story:

As she quickly got ready for the day, Lyra's mind raced with thoughts of Stephen and how she could use her charms to get close to him. She put on her best dress, did her hair, and applied just the right amount of makeup to make a good impression. Arriving at Stephen's company, she took a deep breath and walked in with confidence, ready to make her move.

"Good morning, I'm here to apply for the position," Lyra said with a smile, approaching the reception desk.

The receptionist looked up, surprised by Lyra's boldness. "Ah, good morning... let me check if the manager is available."

A few minutes later, Stephen emerged from his office, looking even more handsome than Lyra had imagined. "Ah, Lyra, I see you're eager to start. Let's talk about the position and see if you're a good fit."

Lyra's heart skipped a beat as she followed Stephen into his office, her mind racing with thoughts of how she could use this opportunity to her advantage...

As they sat down, Stephen began to explain the job requirements, but Lyra's attention was focused on his piercing blue eyes and chiseled jawline. She couldn't help but think about how she could use her charm to get closer to him and secure the job.

Stephen, seemingly oblivious to Lyra's intentions, continued to discuss the company's goals and expectations. Lyra nodded eagerly, her mind racing with strategies to win him over.

As the meeting concluded, Stephen smiled and extended his hand. "Welcome to the team, Lyra. I think you'll do great things here."

Lyra's heart skipped a beat as she shook his hand, feeling a spark of electricity. She knew she had to keep up the act, but she couldn't help but wonder if she was getting in over her head...

Excited about the job, Lyra left Stephen's office and was halted in her quick steps by Stephen's secretary, "excuse me Ms, I think you are Lyra", Gwen asked, "yes I am", Lyra chuckled nervously.

"Follow me, I will show you to your desk, congratulations on your first day of work", Gwen said with an honest smile, Lyra's heart gladdens at the thought of the new job, she had promised to do a good job.

SM company which was named after Stephen but uses the abbreviation, it started few months after Stephen was born, his parents had thought that he brought good luck to them and he really did. The company specialize in producing milk and foods ingredients, it was well known for its way of producing quality spices, milk and many others, anything that is in food circle, SM company was known for it.

The door opened in marketing department and Gwen and Lyra walked in.

As they entered the marketing department, Lyra was greeted by a bustling team of professionals, all focused on their tasks. Gwen led her to a sleek, modern desk, adorned with a nameplate that read "Lyra - Marketing Assistant".

"Welcome to the team, Lyra!" a chorus of voices echoed, as the team members looked up from their workstations.

Lyra's heart swelled with excitement and gratitude. She had never felt so welcomed and valued on her first day of work.

Gwen handed her a thick folder containing the company's marketing strategies and campaigns. "Get familiar with these, Lyra. You'll be working closely with our team to develop new marketing initiatives."

As Lyra began to dig into the folder, she noticed a peculiar glance from one of the team members, a tall, brooding man with piercing brown eyes. She felt a shiver run down her spine, but quickly brushed it off as mere nerves.

As the day went on, Lyra threw herself into her work, impressing the team with her quick wit and creative ideas. However, she couldn't shake off the feeling that the brooding man, whose name was Marcus, was watching her every move.

During a team meeting, Marcus challenged Lyra's idea for a new marketing campaign, his tone hinting at skepticism. Lyra felt a surge of determination and presented her argument with confidence, winning over the team's approval.

As the meeting adjourned, Marcus approached Lyra's desk, his expression softening. "You're quite impressive, Lyra. I didn't expect you to hold your own like that."

Lyra smiled, sensing a truce. "Thanks, Marcus. I'm just trying to prove myself."

Marcus nodded. "I think you'll do just fine here. But be warned, Stephen's not one to be trifled with. He expects results, and fast."

Lyra's heart skipped a beat at the mention of Stephen's name. She knew she had to keep up the act, but Marcus's words left her wondering what lay ahead...

"Thank you for letting me know, we will work hard", Lyra replied in sharp tone feeling uneasy.

Lyra had a busy day, she haven't called her friend Sophia since morning and she didn't remember, she was still trying to adjust.

Stephen on the other hand had left the office earlier, he only came by because of Lyra and he had no more business there, he met with his uncle briefly before leaving. To him, the company doesn't mean anything but he felt differently maybe because of Lyra, he just wasn't sure of what it is.As the day drew to a close, Lyra finally had a moment to herself. She pulled out her phone and dialed Sophia's number, feeling a mix of guilt and relief as her friend answered on the first ring.

"Hey, girl! I'm so sorry I forgot to call you earlier. My first day was crazy!" Lyra exclaimed.

Sophia's laughter echoed through the phone. "I knew you'd forget! How was your day, though? Did you meet Stephen?"

Lyra's voice dropped to a whisper. "Yeah, I met him. He's...different. And there's something about him that makes me feel uneasy, but I can't quite put my finger on it."

Sophia's tone turned serious. "Be careful, Lyra. You know what you're getting yourself into. Don't let your guard down."

Lyra nodded, even though Sophia couldn't see her. "I won't, I promise. I just need to get through this and pay off that loan shark."

As they chatted, Lyra couldn't shake off the feeling that someone was watching her. She glanced around the office, but everyone was packing up to leave. She shrugged it off as paranoia, but the sensation lingered...

Realizing that he's overdoing it, Marcus hastened and left the office before his colleagues, he usually go with others since he would take the first evening bus, but that day, he left earlier, maybe he liked Lyra, he could not seem to explain what it is that made him uncomfortable and uneasy but an excitement fuelled him in the inside.

The first day at work was finally over and Lyra walked to the bus station, tired of working so hard, she knew that her life had taken a new turn, not sure what is going to happen if she eventually pay off the debt she owes the loan shark and what about Stephen, the thought of fear crawled in and she felt like a fool to must have forgotten about who she is and what kind of a background she had, she must have been dreaming when she imagined winning Stephen over.
