Aleman narrowed his eyes.
"I don't care. If I'm doing this, we do it my way. That means no torture, no experiments, no treating him like some goddamn test subject."
The two men stared each other down.
Finally, Wright sighed.
"Fine. He'll be placed in a safe facility. No harm will come to him. You have my word."
Aleman turned back to Renji.
"You'll be okay now."
The kid's eyes shimmered with hope for the first time.
"Thank you…" he whispered.
Aleman nodded once, then took a step back.
Renji was led away by gentler officers this time, ones that weren't ready to beat him at the first sign of resistance.
Aleman watched him go.
Another victim of this insane world.
Another reason to fight.
Detective Wright smirked slightly beside him.
"You know, you might actually make a decent leader."
Aleman exhaled.
