Su Lie followed by Yao Fei entered their family's house, it was somewhat secluded being surrounded by no houses unlike the neighborhood.
"Mom, dad I'm home and I brought big brother!" Yao Fei shouted as they entered the house.
"Must you be so noisy, it's noon." A voice came walking from the kitchen.
She was blond, her hair draped loosely over her shoulder. Her skin glowed; something that wasn't seen much in the family. And her light-brown eyes, gazed at Yao Fei. Even though she was approaching 60 she still looked beautiful.
Much unlike before, a sense of gloominess that she had – probably from being too busy as a housewife and not having enough time to cultivate – was gone and replaced with a more serene and peaceful one.
'Something's off.' Su Lie thought after getting a good look at her.
Usually her hair was tied into a bun so it wouldn't get in her way when it was cooking or when she was doing something else.
However, she let her long black hair fall, looking more like someone who had just married and enjoying early marriage life than someone married for over 20 years.
"Mom, why do you look different?" Yao Fei asked.
"Didn't I always look like this?" This sudden question shocked the woman.
"Not at all! Compared to before I would say you looked depressed." Yao Fei declared.
'This girl, if she were talking to dad she would have been prepared for a spanking.' Su Lie thought.
However, the woman ignored her and went back into the kitchen, the clanking of pots resounded in the air and soon after a mouth-watering aroma made its presence known.
"Yao Fei did you bring the clothes?"
"Yes, it's with big brother!" Yao Fei shouted before going into her room to lounge about.
"Su Lie could you bring the clothes here." His mother shouted.
'What did both of them do?' He couldn't help but wondering.
The job of a guard was the riskiest, but it also had good rewards.
Because of that they were well-off for a middle-class family, but the resources to break through were expensive. Resources his father had been buying with most of the money, making life somewhat difficult for them.
That was why when Su Lie entered the kitchen, the strong aroma that assaulted his noses almost brought him to tears, not tears of sadness but of joy.
His mother, Yao Chaoyu was shocked that her son was holding back tears. She wondered what happened this morning when he applied to enter the guild.
It was a surprise when the family woke up this morning to discover that Su Lie had gone bye-bye. But it didn't take a genius to put 1 and 1 together.
"Your father was looking for you. He said he would visit the guild to pick you up, did you see him?"
Su Lie wondered if his mother knew how to correctly perform the silent treatment, when he did it to his children he would ignore them for a week at the least.
But his mother gave up not even after 24 hours, it made him wonder if he was their son.
"I didn't see him." Su Lie gathered his courage to ask this question, not because he was afraid of his mother but because he was scared of what the answer would be.
"Mom, where did father get the money to buy grade 1 protective clothes?"
Yao Chaoyu was startled by the question but quickly composed herself.
"How do you know they are grade 1 protection..." She kept quiet, thinking of the best way to tell her son the answer.
Due to the silence Su Lie feared that his fears were real, his two third stage cultivator parents had turned to a life of crime!
"You're father borrowed money from a noble..." She said finally.
There was silence, Su Lie's brain worked overtime as he thought.
'No noble would allow someone who they think will die in one month's time to borrow money from them... It has to be a non-cultivator.' He thought.
As he realized this, he thought his father wouldn't lower himself to borrowing money as he was quite prideful.
But then he remembered that his father could sometimes be despicable, he had witnessed the man bullying a 2nd stage cultivator once.
So it didn't seem like a far-fetched thought if he planned to borrow money from someone he believed was a dead man.
It was the same as looting a dead body except it would be looted much earlier, something many people did and saw nothing wrong in doing.
"Is dad breaking through?" He had to ask.
She nodded, shifting her focus to cooking and out-rightly ignoring her son.
Realizing that he was hitting her sensitive point he decided to dig at another sensitive point.
"Mom, are you reaching a breakthrough?" Su Lie asked even though he was fully aware that she was at the 6th rank of the 3rd stage.
"No honey. Why do you ask?" She said more freely once she thought he had stopped poking her with questions.
"Nothing. It's just that I noticed that you're wearing a lot more luxurious clothes, you look more relaxed, and your hair isn't tied into a bun like before and so on." He said.
"Oh look, the food is done cooking." She said turning off the gas and rushing out of the kitchen.
Su Lie could understand why this was happening, as a parent unless you were very shameless you wouldn't want to tell your child you were patethic and unable to take care of them without assistance.
He didn't have to go through such things in his previous life as a parent but he still knew some people whom came to him often confessing all their problems to him and even including their children in their pleads while asking him for some money.
"Meh." He said out loud.
Discarding such thoughts and deciding that his father would be the one to explain himself, right now he was here to relax. After all, today had been somewhat strenuous for him.
He went to his room to sleep for awhile, he still couldn't take his mind off the mission. Due to the system's name Su Lie assumed it would revolve around creating cultivation manuals, but from the way it gave him a mission that wasn't about cultivation manuals.
He felt that the missions that were about creating cultivation manuals would not only be the most important but the most crucial.
With those thoughts he fell asleep.
…
Su Lie got off his bed, he looked out of the window confirming his guess. He had only slept for a few hours and was a bit tired even though he had just awoken.
He had a grin on his face as he remembered vivid scenes of his dream.
He was dual cultivating.
The sun had set and the moon was almost at it's peak, it was a full moon tonight.
He decided to bide his time by checking the system store for entertainment, normally when it was time for dinner his sister would come to wake him up in her unorthodox ways. One of her favorites was sitting on his face so he couldn't breathe so he would wake up.
He found out that he could trade in points for some cash, the unit of conversion wasn't something he worried about.
The system of conversion so high that Su Lie felt like the system had the strongest currency.
As Su Lie continued discovering things, he heard some footsteps they seemed light unlike his father's heavy footsteps and his mother's lighter footsteps.
He closed his eyes and tried pretending he was asleep, he was going to retaliate for all the times he was suffocated!
Yao Fei's footsteps became more audible as she got closer to the room, her face showed a mischievous smile as she got closer to his room.
Among the many things she enjoyed in life, waking her brother up was in the top 10.
She got closer to the room before opening the door silently, she began tiptoeing to the bed and got onto the bed.
Laughing a bit, the smile on her face got even bigger as she gently tapped Su Lie.
Seeing that her efforts weren't going to wake him up soon she got sat on his face.
