After hours of intense practice, Sirius set his weapons aside at midnight, feeling a sense of exhilaration and calm mastery over his newfound techniques. He had drilled through each one, understanding their nuances and refining his movements.
Spear Arts
Tempest Spiral for creating a defensive whirling barrier.
Thunder Piercer, a lightning-speed thrust.
Dragon Coil for deflecting attacks, then coiling back for a swift counter.
Sky Piercer, a downward strike from above that shattered shields and defenses.Sword Arts
With his sword techniques, Sirius focused on Dance of the Phoenix and Icy God Sword Art, preferring their versatility with elements of fire and ice. The Flowing River Sword Dance became his go-to for fluid and continuous strikes that could trap his opponent in a constant barrage.
For archery, skills like Arrowstorm and Skyfall Volley were invaluable, sending cascades of arrows to overwhelm enemies from above. Phantom Arrow was especially thrilling, allowing him to release an arrow that split mid-flight into duplicates, confusing enemies before the real arrow struck true. There are also others like Tempest Shot, Spiral Drill, Skyshot, Flying Comet.
Satisfied, he finally lay down to rest, his breathing instinctively shifting into the Star Origin Breathing Technique and Sun Moon Divine Art as he drifted to sleep. His body, alive with energy, recovered even as he slept.
Morning came quickly, and Sirius went straight to the Hunter Association. There, he acquired his new primary weapons:
Aurora Starblade - a sword crafted from celestial star mithril that shimmered in ethereal hues.Oblivion Lance - a spear forged from Absolute Obsidian with elemental affinity to fire, ice, thunder, light, and darkness, covered in intricate runes.Silvercrest Bow - a bow that glowed with a silvery hue, conjuring arrows from mana.
With these weapons stored securely in his Void Storage, Sirius picked up a few additional essentials: shurikens, smoke bombs, and poison bombs, each one carefully chosen to expand his options in combat.
At the academy, excitement filled the air as students gathered for a wilderness training mission. They were headed to Shadowmire Thicket, a treacherous forest encircling the infamous Blackwater Fen, a mist-shrouded swamp teeming with dangerous creatures. The trip was mandatory, designed to push the students to confront real-world dangers and hone their skills.
Each team of five students would be paired with two instructors. Sirius was grouped with Ron, his best friend, whose Rock Skin Armor made him nearly impervious to physical attacks, Luna, who wielded Sword Throne and could summon an Ice Empress Spirit, and two others, Marcus, a skilled archer, and Elara, a healer.
They boarded rugged military transports and rumbled toward the edge of the forest. The sky was overcast, casting a dark, ominous hue over the dense thicket. As they disembarked, their instructors gave them one final reminder: "Stay alert. This forest will not forgive carelessness."
The Shadowmire Thicket was an unforgiving maze of twisted branches, massive roots, and tangled undergrowth. A canopy so thick that little light reached the forest floor blanketed them in shadows, where every snap of a twig or rustle of leaves felt amplified.
Not long after entering, they heard a faint growl. Two Shadow Wolves slipped from the shadows, their dark fur blending perfectly into the dim surroundings. Their yellow eyes gleamed as they prowled, waiting for an opening.
Sirius summoned the Aurora Starblade from his Void Storage, the silvery blade glinting faintly. "I'll engage. Ron, guard Luna while she summons her spirit. Marcus, watch our backs."
Ron's skin turned rocky and impenetrable as he activated his Rock Skin Armor, standing as a bulwark beside Luna, who called forth her Ice Empress Spirit. Frost spread over her sword, turning it into a blade of ice as she prepared to assist.
Sirius lunged forward, blade flashing with Roc's Descent as he slashed toward the first wolf. The creature sidestepped, but Sirius was ready, switching his grip and summoning Explosive Flames. He released a burst of fire from his hand, singeing the wolf's fur and forcing it back with a pained yelp.
The second wolf lunged at Luna from behind, but Marcus was quick, releasing a Phantom Arrow that split mid-flight, confusing the wolf just long enough for Ron to intercept. He punched the wolf, sending it sprawling with a deep growl.
Luna took the opportunity to cast Winter's Grasp, ice tendrils wrapping around the injured wolf's legs, freezing it in place. Sirius finished it with a clean slice from his Starblade.
The other wolf, snarling and furious, leapt at Sirius. Without hesitation, he summoned the Oblivion Lance and countered with Thunder Piercer, a devastating thrust that crackled with lightning. The tip of the lance struck the wolf's chest, electricity coursing through its body until it fell, lifeless.
The team let out a collective sigh of relief, each of them exhilarated yet wary. They had passed their first encounter, but they knew the Thicket had far worse in store.
Hours passed as they navigated the dense forest, evading several packs of Bramble Lizards—large, camouflaged reptiles with venomous bites. Moving quietly and efficiently, they avoided conflict, saving their energy for the greater threats deeper within.
Eventually, they reached a rugged area where the trees grew sparse, and the air took on a metallic tang. Just as Sirius was about to signal for a break, the ground began to tremble. He turned in time to see the massive, segmented body of a Basilisk Centipede emerge from beneath a fallen log. Its venomous pincers clicked menacingly, glistening with toxic fluid.
"Luna, ice!" Sirius shouted.
Luna nodded, raising her hand as her Ice Empress Spirit cast Polar Vortex, freezing the ground around the centipede. Frost spread rapidly over the creature, slowing its movements.
Sirius summoned the Aurora Starblade once more, switching from the lance with practiced ease. He dashed forward, channeling Lightning Strike through the blade, and unleashed a quick, powerful slash that cut through the centipede's armor, leaving a burning gash along its side. The centipede let out a screech, writhing as it broke free of the ice.
Ron stepped in with a powerful kick, shattering its front legs, while Marcus fired arrows to keep it pinned down. Elara stayed back, ready to heal if necessary.
Switching back to his Oblivion Lance, Sirius struck with Dragon Coil, his spear spinning in a tight arc that repelled the creature's pincers as it tried to counterattack. The centipede reeled from the impact, its body jerking as the venomous fluid leaked from its wounds.
Taking advantage of the moment, Sirius used Sky Piercer, leaping high and driving the lance down through the creature's head. The centipede let out a final hiss before collapsing, its body twitching in its death throes.
The team took a moment to catch their breath, each member's eyes reflecting a mix of relief and satisfaction. "That thing was tougher than it looked," Ron muttered, wiping his brow.
"Let's keep moving," Sirius said. "We've still got a long way to go."
By late afternoon, they reached a mist-shrouded area on the edge of Blackwater Fen, the dark marsh glistening ominously under the fading light. Sirius knew this area was known for its Marsh Gators—giant, ancient crocodiles with rough, scaly hides and lethal stealth in water.
As they cautiously moved along the bank, Luna froze, eyes narrowing. "I think we're being watched."
Before anyone could react, a massive gator lunged from the water, its jaws snapping shut inches from Ron, who jumped back just in time. Sirius summoned the Silvercrest Bow, releasing a Wrath of the Archer's Moon. Glowing arrows split mid-flight, striking the gator and driving it back into the water, though it quickly recovered.
Another gator emerged, this one charging directly at Elara. Sirius quickly switched to the Oblivion Lance, using Iron Wave to deliver a sweeping blow that sent the creature reeling back. Ron rushed forward, his rock armor shimmering as he landed a powerful punch on the gator's snout, stunning it.
Luna called forth her Ice Empress Spirit, casting Glacial Veil to form a wall of ice between them and the water. The gators lunged at the barrier, but their jaws met solid ice, giving the team a brief moment to regroup.
"Focus fire on the closest one!" Sirius shouted. He hurled a Lightning Strike from his hand, electricity arcing over the water and stunning the gator closest to them. Luna followed up with Frostbite Edge, her blade encased in ice as she struck, slicing through the gator's tough hide.
The creature thrashed, its tail sending waves of water crashing over them. Sirius dodged and brought down his lance with Sky Piercer, driving it through the gator's skull. The beast fell with a heavy splash, its body sinking into the dark water.
Only one gator remained, enraged by the loss of its kin. It charged at Ron, jaws open wide, but Ron braced himself and caught the creature's jaws with his hands, his Rock Skin Armor allowing him to withstand the crushing force. Sirius saw his chance, switching to the Aurora Starblade and using Kirin's Grace to glide across the water's edge, his blade trailing sparks as he struck with a precise, powerful thrust, piercing the gator's eye.
The creature let out a final, furious hiss before going limp, its massive form sinking beneath the water.
The team took a collective breath, realizing they had just survived one of Shadowmire's deadliest predators. "That was... intense," Marcus said, his voice unsteady.
Sirius nodded, sheathing his blade. "Let's get moving. We're almost through the worst of it."
As they ventured deeper into the Thicket, they encountered occasional Shadow Ravens and Iron Talon Eagles, but with their combined talents and Sirius's ability to seamlessly switch between weapons, they dispatched these threats with relative ease.
By nightfall, they had reached the designated rendezvous point, where their instructors awaited them. Each team was battered and weary, but victorious.
"Excellent work," one instructor commended, his gaze lingering on Sirius and his team. "You showed remarkable skill and teamwork."
Sirius felt a swell of pride, but he kept his expression steady. He knew this was only the beginning. With talents like Explosive Flames and Lightning Strike to augment his range, and the versatility of his weapons, he was prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead.
As they boarded the transports back to the academy, Sirius glanced back at the darkened forest, a smirk playing on his lips. Shadowmire had tested him, but he had emerged stronger, more resolute, and ready for the battles that awaited him.
