Volume 1: Chapter 4 - The Pain Behind the Coldness

Because Lei Tianyi cooked the meal, it was Leng Yolan's responsibility to do the dishes.

Lei Tianyi leaned against the kitchen door, affectionately watching the beautiful figure working busily in the kitchen. Suddenly, his expression turned icy. He wondered why his little girl had been so sad yesterday. If he found out who dared to hurt her, he would deliver the best "gift"—a destruction similar to what the Bai Xiong Gang received, absolute annihilation.

"Yi, the dishes are done. Let's go out and have some fun, okay?" Leng Yolan snuggled tenderly into Lei Tianyi's arms.

"Little girl, let's go out later. I'd like to ask you a few questions first, if that's alright?"

"Mm!" Leng Yolan knew she had to let him understand certain things.

"Little girl, why were you so sad yesterday?"

"Yesterday was my birthday and also the anniversary of my mother's death. It's the most loathed day of the year for me." It's stained with my mother's blood, my endless tears, and my deep hatred for that man. Ironically, it's also the birthday of the daughter of that man's beloved woman. Every year, he throws a grand birthday party for his precious one.

"Can you tell me your story? Let's share the burden together?"

"My mother committed suicide when I was eight, taking another woman with her—the woman the man loved. So, he hated his wife and daughter, wanting to give everything to the child of the other woman. So…"

Lei Tianyi held her trembling body tightly, wordlessly offering warmth and support.

Leng Yolan quickly composed herself. Over the years, she had learned to be cold and to hide her true self.

"After my mother's death, that man expelled me and Aunt Li, who was loyal to my mother, from our home. Aunt Li passed away two years ago, and since then, I've lived here alone."

Leng Yolan's indifferent expression seemed as if she were recounting someone else's story, but Lei Tianyi's heart ached intensely. How much suffering had his little girl endured? His dark eyes burned with anger.

"Then how were you able to attend Saint Lidia Academy? Usually, it's not accessible to ordinary people, and according to what you said, that man wouldn't care about you even if he had money."

"Yes, he wouldn't care. He would rather see me dead. We've had no contact over the years; everything was handled through my mother's will and the lawyer she entrusted before her death to protect me." Behind her calm voice lay a bone-chilling coldness.

"Little girl, from now on, I'll take care of you. The warmth you've missed, I'll make up for it. The pain you've endured, I'll make those responsible pay back tenfold." Lei Tianyi's usually cold face wore a sinister smile, his eyes as cold as ice.

"Yi, thank you. But I want to seek justice for my mother and myself with my own hands."

"Alright, but remember, I'll always support you." Lei Tianyi knew that if he didn't let her take revenge herself, she would never resolve the knot in her heart. However, he would be by her side to protect her and ensure no one would harm her again.
