The Selection of Skills

The morning dawned crisp and clear, signaling the start of the new outer disciples' journey. Rudhra, along with the other fresh recruits, made their way to the majestic Skill Library. This towering structure was both awe-inspiring and intimidating, its imposing aura evident even from a distance. An Elder with a commanding presence stood at the entrance, his gaze sweeping over the eager faces of the disciples.

"Today, you will each select two foundational martial arts skills," the Elder announced. "Remember, the library's first three floors are open to you, but access to the fourth floor requires significant skill and determination. You may only reach the fourth floor if you are truly worthy."

The library's interior was grand, with shelves upon shelves of ancient scrolls and manuals. The new disciples could barely contain their excitement as they explored the first three floors, each level filled with an array of martial arts techniques. Rudhra, however, moved through the floors with a discerning eye. His extensive knowledge of literature gave him an advantage; he quickly identified and dismissed techniques that didn't catch his interest.

The elf girl, surrounded by admirers, ventured confidently among the shelves. She was a focal point of attention, her grace and beauty captivating those around her. In contrast, Rudhra moved alone, his aura of quiet confidence creating a barrier that few dared to cross.

As the disciples attempted to ascend to the fourth floor, the air grew heavy with suppression. Many tried and failed, their determination faltering under the immense pressure. The elf girl, however, managed to push through, her eyes blazing with resolve. She was among the few who successfully reached the coveted fourth floor.

Rudhra approached the staircase leading to the fourth floor without hesitation. To him, the suppression felt like a gentle breeze. The Elder watching from below raised an eyebrow in surprise, his interest piqued by the boy who seemed to defy the odds effortlessly.

On the fourth floor, Rudhra found himself surrounded by the most advanced and powerful techniques. He moved methodically, examining each scroll with a critical eye. The Elder observed him closely, intrigued by Rudhra's calm demeanor and discerning gaze.

After careful consideration, Rudhra selected two skills that resonated with his innate abilities and ambitions:

**Thunderclap Fist**

- **Description:** A powerful martial art that channels Qi into the fists to create explosive force on impact, mimicking the power of a thunderclap.

- **Effects:** Delivers devastating, concussive blows capable of shattering defenses and causing significant internal damage to opponents.

- **Risks:** Requires precise Qi control and immense physical conditioning to prevent backlash and injury to the practitioner. Incorrect execution can lead to broken bones or severe muscle strain.

- **Training:** Extensive conditioning of the fists and arms through repetitive strikes against hard surfaces. Intensive Qi control exercises to synchronize the release of energy with the physical strike.

**Shadow Step**

- **Description:** A high-speed movement technique that allows the practitioner to move with such speed and stealth that they appear to vanish and reappear like a shadow.

- **Effects:** Grants the ability to evade attacks, reposition instantly, and launch surprise assaults. When mastered, it can make the practitioner almost untouchable in combat.

- **Risks:** Demands exceptional agility and stamina. Overuse or improper execution can lead to severe fatigue, muscle tears, and disorientation. Failure to control the speed can result in collisions or falls.

- **Training:** Intensive agility drills, speed exercises, and balance training. Practitioners must also develop acute spatial awareness and reflexes to navigate their environment at high speeds.

The Elder, upon seeing Rudhra's selections, approached him with a mixture of caution and respect. "These techniques are not to be taken lightly," he warned, his tone serious. "They require immense dedication and skill."

Rudhra met the Elder's gaze, his eyes steady and unwavering. There was a depth in them that spoke of untapped potential and an unyielding spirit. The Elder found himself momentarily at a loss for words, sensing an intangible power within the boy.

"Very well," the Elder finally said, his voice softening. "You have chosen wisely. Train diligently and prove yourself worthy of these skills."

Rudhra nodded, a faint smile playing on his lips. He thanked the Elder and carefully tucked the scrolls into his storage bracelet. With his selections made, he left the library, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the journey ahead.
