Background Information

TYPE-MOON Universe, Earth, Japan, Fuyuki city.

While Elicia was getting her bearings after being sent to the TYPE-MOON Universe, Tatsuo found himself without a body. Instead, he could only describe himself as a spirit. And during that time, he saw a playback of his life in this Universe.

Born in sixth century BC, Tatsuo was born to an Egyptian man and a Chinese dragon goddess who managed to slip from the other side of the world, where all the gods and creatures of legends resided to have a bit of mischievous fun. While the man was fleeing from persecution, the two gave birth to a demi-god. Though, the man had no idea.

The goddess stayed on that side of the world just long enough to give birth to her child. However, shortly after Tatsuo was born, the dragon goddess left for the Reverse Side of the World, as her trip could not last any longer.

Yet, when the dragon goddess left, she left the new born Tatsuo in a basket on the shores of Sicily, as she was not looking to take care of a child.

Tatsuo was picked up by Telemachus, the general who led the uprising that overthrew Phalaris the Tyrant of Agrigento. And over the next sixteen years, he was trained to be Telemachus' hidden blade, one that would ruthlessly remove all those who supported Phalaris' tyrannical rule.

Though, he never gave Tatsuo a name in that life, Telemachus also made sure to let Tatsuo know that it was because of Phalaris that his parents died, even if that could not be further from the truth. That was because he only considered Tatsuo a weapon instead of an adopted son. One that he would discard after its usefulness had run its course.

And that was exactly what happened.

During the uprising, Tatsuo was sent out to eliminate anyone that would be an issue for Telemachus after the war was over. Tatsuo even managed to sneak into Phalaris' personal quarters to end his life while the final battle of the uprising took place.

Yet, as soon as Tatsuo returned to report his mission's success, he was stabbed through the heart, the throat, and the liver by Telemachus and his two closest confidants.

After that, the legend of how Phalaris was roasted to death in his bronze bull was played out, no one the wiser.

As for Tatsuo, Only the name Kenós (Greek for Void) made it into the history books, as an assassin who assisted Telemachus' uprising before vanishing to live a peaceful life, or so it was suspected, as his title was never heard from again.

Yet, Tatsuo, or rather Kenós' spirit was brought into the Throne of Heroes thanks to his deeds during a time of strife.

Shortly after seeing an entire life flash by, Tatsuo's surroundings began to brighten drastically. Then, before he knew it, he found himself standing at the center of a magic circle with the first pair of modified trench knives he ever received from DOATEC lying at his feet.

"Thank goodness, it worked." Elicia said in a relieved tone. "Even though I know your knives were the perfect catalyst, I was afraid I'd get one of the way too many Hassans."

"This feels weird." Tatsuo muttered while ignoring Elicia's relieved exclamation and looking down at his hands after Elicia summoned him as a Servant. "I mean, I have a body, but it doesn't feel like it's real."

"Well, you know that Servants' bodies are made of Ether." Elicia said while checking out Tatsuo from every angle, more than a little excited to have summoned a Servant. "So, I guess your description is right."

"Yeah, I guess so." Tatsuo replied. "Still feels weird, though."

Tatsuo then shook his head and looked around the room he was in.

"By the way, where are we?" Tatsuo asked.

"The suite on the top floor of the Hyatt Grand Hotel." Elicia replied absent-mindedly. "The same one that was rebuilt after Kiritsugu blew it up in the last Grail War."

"Hmm… Isn't this the place where Lancer's original master stayed before she went to see that psycho priest?" Tatsuo asked while trying to jog his memories of the Fate series.

"Yup!" Elicia replied, while continuing to circle Tatsuo.

Getting annoyed and slightly dizzy from following Elicia with is eyes, Tatsuo reached out and grabbed her by the back of her shirt. Then, with one hand, he lifted her so that he could look her in her eyes.

"Checking out the clothing the Throne of Heroes gave me is not the most important thing we have to worry about right now." Tatsuo said in a stern tone.

"Yeah, I know. I know." Elicia said without losing her smile. "I need you to set up magic circles around the room, Tatsuo. That way, my magical presence can be hidden. We should probably test how much the world is nerfing us, as well."

"Right." Tatsuo replied with a nod as he put Elicia back onto the floor. Then, he crouched down to pick up his knives before putting them into his [Inventory]. "Let's take care of those… what do they call them in this world again? Ah, yes, [Bounded Fields], first."

With that, both with excited smiles on their faces, Tatsuo and Elicia left the room. Then, Tatsuo got to drawing magic circles on the outer most walls of the suite Elicia had booked in the hotel.

"By the way, Lici, do you know how close to the start of the Holy Grail War we are?" Tatsuo asked as he worked.

"Not really." Elicia replied while shaking her head as she watched Tatsuo work. "But we should probably take a trip to Kotomine Church to find out. Hopefully we get there before Kirei can start acting up. If we're lucky, he hasn't gotten his hands on Lancer yet, either."

"Yeah, I really don't like that guy." Tatsuo replied. "He's just a scourge on humanity. Plus, we'll have to do something about the Golden Boy, too."

"Ugh! Fighting Gilgamesh is gonna be a pain." Elicia grumbled.

"Those eyes of his might be a problem, too." Tatsuo said while narrowing his eyes. "He's supposed to be able to see through everything or something like that, right?"

"You think that he might be able to see through the fact that we're not from this world?" Elicia asked with a slight frown on her face. "But that shouldn't be possible. Because Gaia or Alaya would have seen through us first. And since we bought identities, it should be even less likely."

"I hope you're right." Tatsuo replied. "I can only imagine what a self-centered, egotistical guy like him would do with that kind of knowledge. He would probably try to make you part of his treasures."

"I'd feel sorry for him if he did, then." Elicia said, her frown disappearing immediately. "Fonzie would come and kick his butt if he tried."

"Uh… But time is frozen in your world, Lici." Tatsuo pointed out with an awkward expression on his face. "Alfonzo would be too late to do anything if that happened."

Elicia's cheerful smile froze on her face after hearing that.

["Still not thinking before you speak, even in another world."] Elicia's [Armament Spirit], Scylla said from her inner world. ["*Sigh* I guess there's no solving that part of you, is there?"]

"Leave me alone, Scylla." Elicia said with a pout.

Hearing that, Tatsuo raised an eyebrow. He then finished the magic circle he was working on before turning back to look at Elicia.

"You and Alfonzo have talked about those not-Zanpakutos you have before." Tatsuo said, a hint of excitement leaking into his tone. "None of us ever asked for one, though. But um… Do you think…?"

"Fonzie and I actually talked about that." Elicia said with a smile. "But Fonzie's not sure if he would be able to make one for you or any of the other members of the [Chat]. The way magic works in your worlds is different, so…"

"I see." Tatsuo said, disappointment evident in his tone as he went back to working on the [Bounded Fields].

"By the way, what kinds of spells are you putting into the room, Tatsuo?" Elicia asked curiously.

"Just the basics." Tatsuo replied. "[Energy] concealment, anti-recognition, you know, the basics."

"I see.' Elicia replied with a nod. "Yeah, we don't' want the hotel staff coming in here to clean and seeing something they shouldn't. Not like we'll be conducting magical experiments in here, or anything. But it's better to be safe than sorry, right?"

"Exactly." Tatsuo replied with a nod. "Anyway, what kind of background did you get when we got here?"

"Nothing special." Elicia replied with a shrug. "I'm from a Magus family from America. We specialize in using threads to cast Magecraft. However, we can't create threads like my [Thread Magic]. So, I have a whole suitcase full of spools of thread. It's basically the same kind of magic that I use, though. I can imbue different attributes into my threads and all that."

"Then, I think you should replace all the threads you brought with the stuff from your [Thread Magic]." Tatsuo said after thinking for a moment. "That way, you won't have to go through all the extra steps needed to cast the Magecraft."

*Clap!*

"Ooh! That's a good idea!" Elicia said cheerfully while clapping her hands. "Tatsuo, you're so smart."

With that, Elicia darted out of the room, heading to the suite's bedroom where her luggage was stored. Then, she started pulling all the thread off the many spools of thread stored in one of her suitcases.

Meanwhile, Tatsuo continued to work. However, the sound of Elicia's voice, coming from another room, did not take long to ring out across the suite.

"By the way, what kind of past did you get?" Elicia asked while working. "Since you were summoned as an Assassin, you must have been an assassin in that life, right?"

"Yeah." Tatsuo replied.

He then went on to tell Elicia about the memories he saw during his time in the Throne of Heroes. He also mentioned the rumors he'd heard about himself while living in sixth century BC.

"Wow! You must be really good." Elicia said with a bit of awe in her tone. "No matter what anyone did, they could never hit you when you were on an assassination mission? I wonder if that will translate into a Noble Phantasm."

"It did." Tatsuo replied. "I'm basically Obito Uchiha, now."

"Kamui?" Elicia asked in a high-pitched tone as the sound of spools of thread clattering onto a table could be heard from the other room. "Is that just because of the legend?"

"No, not really." Tatsuo replied. "It's because I had a breakthrough in my [Spatial Manipulation] when Christie tried to snipe me during my fight with Ayane-Oneesan. That's just probably how it manifested in this world."

"That's so cool." Elicia said excitedly. "What other Noble Phantasms do you have?"

"Let's talk about that when we go over my Saint Graph." Tatsuo said with a smile of his own. "For now, we need to get this [Bounded Field] up. I can feel someone with a pretty high amount of mana, or Od, or whatever, entering the city. And I'm not sure if that's Bazett or the guy who summons Caster. I hope it's the former, though. If it's Caster's master, then we have no way of saving Bazett."

"Got it." Elicia replied.

And just as Tatsuo said, there was a cab entering Fuyuki City from the south of the city. In the back seat of the cab sat a tall, demure looking woman with short, magenta hair, brown eyes, and a mole under her left eye wearing a two-piece black business suit, a red neck tie, and a pair of ovoid shaped earrings who was looking out the window as the nighttime scenery passed by.

Despite looking as if she was simply looking out of the window, this woman, Bazett Fraga McRemitz, the one Tatsuo and Elicia had mentioned, was carrying on a secret conversation with someone in her head.

'Alright, Lancer.' Bazett said mentally. 'The first thing we'll do when we arrive is set up my temporary workshop. Then, we'll head to Kotomine Church to speak with the overseer from the Church.'

["After that, we'll get to have some good fights, right?"] Bazett's conversation partner, a male voice belonging to the one she referred to as Lancer, asked with excitement in his tone.

'That depends.' Bazett replied. 'We don't' know just how close we are to the start of the beginning of the Grail War. That's why we're heading to the Church before we do anything else."

["*Sigh* That's kinda boring."] Lancer said in a down cast tone. ["But I get it. Just as long as I get to have a good, honorable, fight, I can be patient."]

'I believe you will have your fill of those.' Bazett replied. 'Just be patient.'

["Yeah… Yeah…"] Lancer said.

Lancer, like Tatsuo, was a Servant summoned to fight in the Holy Grail War. In fact, there would be a total of seven Servants summoned in total. Each with a legend recorded by the Throne of Heroes. Each would also be given a class with its own set of class-specific skills, as well as skills that pertain to their personal abilities, as well.

And one of those abilities was to take on a spiritual form, making them invisible to others.

However, that was not all there was to these Servants. They also had what was known as their [Noble Phantasms], the crystallization of their legends. For example, if a hero was known for being able to cut through anything, then, that would culminate into their Noble Phantasm, allowing them to cut through anything once it was invoked.

Meaning, with such powerful beings each paired up with a Magus of the modern age, a battle for the ages would begin once all seven Servants and Masters had gathered for this, the Fifth Holy Grail War. And they would all fight for both honor and to have their wishes granted by being the last team standing when the Holy Grail War came to an end.

Though, it should be noted that in this day and age, normal humans are kept ignorant of the supernatural, as if too many people knew about it, the mystery that gave Magus their powers would slowly be unraveled, leaving them powerless, for the most part. And Magus are not willing to allow such a thing to come to pass.

So, most battles during the Holy Grail War take place away from the eyes of normal humans. That said, if a human was to stumble across one of these supernatural incidents, they would have their memories of the event erased in the best case. However, the worst case would see them losing their life.

Either way, the curtains would be rising on a secret battle like nothing most people had ever seen once the seven Servants to participate in this Holy Grail War were summoned.
