ESCAPE

ASTRID

I rushed over to the window and peered out. My heart sank. The drop was too high, and I'd probably break my neck if I jumped. I clenched my fists, frustration bubbling up inside me. There had to be another way.

My mind raced as I considered my options. The bedsheets. I could tie them together to make a rope! My fingers trembled as I yanked the sheets off the bed and knotted them together as quickly as possible. I added some of my clothes for extra length, ensuring the knots were tight and secure.

I tied one end to the bed frame, tugging on it to test its strength. Satisfied, I tossed the makeshift rope out the window and watched it dangle.

I froze just as I was about to climb onto the window ledge. A slight tap on the door made my heart skip a beat. I held my breath, listening intently.
