HER AND HER AGAIN

MAGNUS

The door was pushed open, and the footsteps approaching rang out steadily. And even before announcing their presence, I could smell the mouthwatering scent of gravy and freshly baked bread.

I turned from the window and faced them.

"Milord," the head kitchen staff, a stout woman with red cheeks, greeted with a curtsy as she placed a steaming ceramic bowl on the table. "Your dinner's ready."

Two other girls walked past her to set down two wooden trenchers and a basket on the table before curtseying.

"Thank you, Agnes", I muttered, moving to take a seat.

Her wide eyes crinkled at the corners as she bowed again.

"Tobias will be bringing in your wine and water, Milord", she continued, and the words had barely left her mouth when the lad rushed into the dining room with a pitcher and a goblet, his face flushed.

"Good evening, Milord!"

My lips tipped up in a small smile. "Evening Tobias, how are you?"
