I could feel her distress, no matter how much she tried to tamp it down.

And frantically scouring through ancient, dusty books in my study, was not enough to distract me from that feeling; and it was all because of my closeness to her mind due to the mark she now wore.

 

I was desperate to find out anything about the creatures that'd attacked us, but I was quickly getting frustrated when after three hours, I'd still not found out anything tangible. And there was still the constant distraction by Astrid's sadness.

 

By all measures, I was not having a good day and I had a tiny feeling that it was about to get even worse.

 

I pushed the large tome aside and pulled a hand through my hair in extreme frustration.

It was the last one, and there was still no information on what the creatures were.
