Both Maverick and Wolfgang moved swiftly, untying the horses and mounting them without hesitation. They galloped through the dark woods, the only sounds being the thudding of hooves and the rush of wind around them.
Neither man spoke a word, but the tension in the air was palpable. They knew something was coming.
When they reached an open clearing, a break in the dense forest, they finally slowed their pace.
Here, in the moonlit expanse, they could see all around them, without fear of an ambush from the shadows. Wolfgang was the first to break the silence, his voice calm but filled with resolve.
"We're going to fight them here," he said, dismounting his horse.
Maverick nodded in agreement, getting off his horse as well. Wolfgang gave the horses a sharp slap on their flanks, sending them running back into the woods to safety.
