Chapter 83

Upon exchanging a quick nod, I immediately scooped up Damien and immediately headed out the door of the library.

"Who are those people?"

He asked, looking up at me with a worried glance. I stared back down at the boy and shook my head.

"There's no time to explain something like that, you're staying in Shinso's room until we get this sorted out, ok?"

I gave the kid a reassuring pat on the back before closing the door behind me. The second I was alone, a rush of fear and adrenaline reentered as I dashed down the hallway, removing my gun from my holster and loading in a few rounds of bullets.

"Bang"

"Bang"

"Bang"

Gunshots erupted through the library as the Nightshades continued to press their assault. Aaron turned to me and yelled;

"I don't care if you miss. Just shoot, kid!"

I took in a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest as I stood behind a bookshelf fumbling with the weapon in my hands. I had no intention of loading in those bullets I received at the Dark Market, for their overall use and abilities still remained unclear.

And what an underground cult group would need them for in the first place sent shivers down my spine. Gunshots and the sound of punching only grew louder the more I stalled. I finally grew the courage to step around the corner and start shooting my gun at the Nightshades.

The gun in my hands felt like a million pounds in my grip, but I managed to steady myself in time to shoot a shot. The bullet landed into the shoulder of one of them, causing them to stagger back and collapse into the bookshelf behind him.

"Great, you're doing great!"

Aaron yelled, a sense of authority and congratulation in his voice as he continued to assault the incoming Nightshades. Cattleya continued to fight, but her adrenaline was quickly draining from her body. Her movements quickly grew more stagnant and sloppy, but even in the midst of her soreness, she continued to fight.

Carter landed a powerful hit into one of their chests, before using his upper body strength to ram into them and send them back into the ground. Shinso and Aizawa fought back and back, as if they knew exactly what the other would do.

Shinso relied more on his handgun and long ranged combat, while Aizawa leaped around, kicked, punched, and made his way around the library with expertise. Demetruis wielded his knife that he conjured up at the banquet, but due to the events that happened a few days back, its characteristics were sealed away from the knife, transforming it back into a regular knife.

"Isaac, just make sure the boy is safe!"

Aizawa yelled as he kicked a Nightshade in the gut, turning around counterclockwise and dodging a blow to the face and using his capture weapon to apprehend them. Shinso gave me a worried glance as he continued to shoot bullets, but he nodded his head and ushered me to go.

"Aaron told me to stay here and fight, I have Damien locked in Shinso's quarters."

I fired 3 more bullets, which narrowly avoided the Nightshades and instead collided with the bookshelves behind them. Aaron nodded, leaping back and firing more bullets from his handgun.

"I did, now let's finish this!"

"Bang"

"Bang"

"Bang"

3 gunshots suddenly pierced Aaron's chest, making him grunt in pain and stumble back onto the ground, clutching his chest with his unarmed hand. He coughed up some blood as I rushed over to him with a gaze of worry and concern.

"Get back, get back!"

He yelled at me, holding his arm out to prevent me from coming any closer. Suddenly, Aaron's face started to change and contort and morph. The right half of his face grew less wrinkly, and a burning yellow eyes surfaced over his green ones. The half of his face that was changing quickly took the form of Maxwell Hammers; this was slowly becoming like my given divination I saw last night.

Aaron let out a low growl, and he stood up and lunged at one of the Nightshades with superhuman agility, before plunging his arms into their mask and ripping it off. The shocked face underneath was now plastered permanently, as Aaron dug his fingers into the young man's eyes and ripped them out entirely.

Blood was spurting all over the place from his eye sockets, coating his changed face in a canvas of crimson liquid. This obviously wasn't the Aaron I knew. Aaron wouldn't take such a rough approach to a situation like this, but would rather rely more on his gun. But if the situation came to it, he would have used his fists like when he fought "Isaiah" on the streets last week.

The Nightshades body fell limp to the ground and rolled over, before the sigil on the mask faded away, leaving the white mask with no details. Aaron then turned his head and looked towards the other Nightshades, who have completely forgotten about everyone else here, instead wanting to eliminate the new given threat on the battlefield.

"What's wrong with him?"

Carter asked in fear as he ducked behind a bookshelf to avoid the bloodshed. Cattleya quickly hurried over to him as well, leaning against the shelf with her eyes closed, breathing softly from her incoming exhaustion.

"He's been possessed by a friend he knew, I can't explain until later!"

I yelled, running towards Shinso and tackling him just in time to avoid the incoming head of a nightshade from colliding with him. The head hit the wall and bashed into an oil painting, making it fall to the ground and shatter into a million pieces.

The now possessed Aaron turned to look at the painting, his eyes widening in fear at the loud, sudden sound. He frantically looked towards the open window, and leapt through it, crawling up the roof and over the streets like a rabid animal.

I knew exactly what was going to unfold, except there were major details that were left missing. The Aaron I saw in the vision had a dark colored cloak over his body, and almost everything was set ablaze. Carter immediately leaped out the window and pursued Aaron with his gun in hand, firing bullets wherever he knew he would land a crucial hit.

Aaron suddenly grabbed a towel hanging out of someone's window, and wrapped it around his body in an attempt to hide himself from prying eyes below.

The deafening battle in the library fades behind me as I started to sprint towards Carter, who was chasing Aaron.

"Damn it, more signs of my divination are occurring!"

"Aaron, come back!"

I shouted, jumping over a chimney and rolling under a pipe filled with running water into someone's house. The cloaked Aaron continued to dart away from us with surprising agility despite his older age.

"If he gets too far, he'll unravel more chaos as he moves!"

Carter shouted, firing more bullets at Aaron, who didn't take much effort to dodge them without even looking back.

"Stop, criminal!"

I heard a familiar voice shout from below. Multiple carriages pulled up and hoisted to a stop, and a group of people quickly ran out and took out matching revolvers; the council.

"What are they doing here?"

A young woman asked, holding her infant daughter close to her chest in an attempt to keep it safe. Her question seemed to ring through the crowds of people either running or observing the scene.

"Go, now!"

Lorin Annaegoad shouted before firing bullets at Aaron.

"They probably think it's Isaiah!"

I said as I looked down at the ground below me, immediately feeling dizzy. In all the carnage and chaos I found it difficult to project my voice to a loud degree, so my only option was to jump down and let them know.

With a mighty leap I slowly jumped down onto a balcony below me, landing on top of a glass table with fancy chins and teacups littered across it. Everything including the table broke with a loud clatter, but I ignored it and continued to progress towards the ground.

I landed onto the ground and brushed myself off before running over to Lorin and grabbing the gun from his hands and tossing it aside.

"That's not Isaiah, tell them to stop shooting!"

My expression was filled with desperation and fear as I told this to the man with long silky black hair. Lorin's red eyes peered down at me in a scowl, narrowing at my sudden appearance

"We run this kingdom, it's our job to make sure it's safe!"

He shouted back at me with malice, picking his gun back up and slamming me over the head with it. Lorin then spat on the ground and continued to fire bullets.

In the midst of my blurry vision and my overall lack of sight and hearing, the sound of gunfire continued to ring intensely in the air. Lorin and the rest of the council members continued to assault Aaron with gunfire, but none of them managed to land a single hit.

Suddenly, a spear that radiated with a bright yellow light flew through the air and punctured Lorin through the chest, making him cough out a mighty amount of blood and stagger back, before falling lifeless.

"Lorin!"

A young man with blonde hair and rounded glasses approached him, shaking him violently in an attempt to wake him up.

"My friend, no…"

His voice lowered to a whisper as tears ran down his face, and his eyes suddenly surfaced with rage and a burning desire for blood.

"Brinod…"

The younger woman in the green dress looked at him with a cautious expression as he looked up at Aaron, who was now completely possessed and taken over by Maxwell, who was an Order 0 of the Justice path.

"You'll pay for this!"

Tears were running down his face now like a river as he shot at the now changed man with massive amounts of overwhelming gunfire. Every shot hit him with precision, making him shatter back and lose all sense of equilibrium from the constant oncoming blows.

Maxwell let out a low roar, causing his black colored cloak to flare up. The second it touched the clouds, they suddenly turned jet black as more dark colored clouds gathered above the kingdom, letting down large amounts of crimson lighting.

Me and Carter watched the scene in terror. I had to rub my eyes to confirm my suspicions that this was actually happening.

"Yes, you're seeing it right."

The young woman looked toward me with a solemn and fearful expression, taking a heavy and shaky sigh. Her eyes were filled with an inscrutable fear.

"The might of a True God."
