A New Start

"You know I live at the tower, right?" Jared told her.

"Really? I didn't know that. How long have you been there?" Cora sat back as the server set down her plate of chicken teriyaki stir fry and rice. It smelled amazing and really was her favorite.

"Umm, three months, it was a present for my twenty-fifth." Jared responded after the server walked away.

"I won't bother you or anything. I didn't know." Cora said feeling like a bit of a burden.

"Honey, it's no bother. How about I take you out to dinner on Saturday to celebrate your first week of work. Maybe an actual date. It's been a while since we had one." Jared asked sweetly hoping she would agree. Jared had his issues but true care for Cora wasn't one of them. He was just different and didn't know how to deal with that.

"I thought we weren't supposed to date our exes?" Cora said evasively sipping her wine.
