Chapter 74: All Fired Up!

(Mew and her friends continue to walk on the path road and finally reach the Indigo Plateau.)

(home of the Pokemon League.)

(Everyone is very excited, but none of them is more excited than Mew is.)

Misty: "So Mew, are you excited to compete in the Pokemon League?"

(Misty asks.)

Mew: "I am excited, but to be honest, I'm a little nervous too."

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "Nervous?"

(Tomo asks.)

Mew: "Yeah. I am excited that I'm going to be at the Pokemon League and compete with my Pokemon, but I'm also nervous about the competition I'm going to have to face."

(Mew says.)

Brock: "You're right about that. There's going to be a lot of trainers who have strong Pokemon and have already got eight badges from all over the Kanto Region."

(Brock says.)

Misty: "Let's not forget Gary. He already got his eight badges and I wouldn't be surprised if he's already there."

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Yeah. I also need to think about what Pokemon I want to use, and know the rules of the League."

(Mew says.)

Brock: "I'm sure you'll find out what you need to do as soon as we get there."

(Brock says.)

Misty: "So until then, let's go to the Pokemon League."

(Misty says.)

Mew: "You're right. I need to get registered before anything else."

(Mew says.)

(Soon enough, Mew and her friends reach the town outside of the stadium.)

(where the competition is going to take place.)

(When they arrive, they see tons of people, each on a different side of the street.)

Misty: "What's this?"

(Misty asks.)

Mew: "I'm not sure. Maybe some event or parade is coming up before the League."

(Mew says.)

(Suddenly, they hear the crowd cheering and run right past Mew and her friends.)

(They all turn to see a male jogger carrying a torch to the stadium with a Hitmonchan by his side.)

(Office Jenny is riding on a motorbike with another vehicle behind.)

Tomo: "What is it?"

(Tomo asks.)

Brock: "It's the torch,"

(Brock says.)

Mew: "The torch?"

(Mew asks.)

Misty: "They use it to light the flame that burns during the whole Pokemon League competition."

(Misty answers.)

(Then Brock explains.)

Brock: "The flame's supposed to inspire all the trainers and Pokemon who compete in the Pokémon League. Being one of the torch bearers is a huge honor."

Misty: "There's a legend that says the flame comes from way back in ancient times from the flames of Moltres."

(Misty says.)

Mew: "Moltres…?"

(Mew softly says to herself.)

(Then says.)

Mew: "Oh, I remember reading about it. Moltres is a legendary Pokemon."

(She takes out her Pokedex and Dexter says.)

Dexter: "Moltres, The Flame Pokemon. A Fire and Flying type. A legendary bird Pokémon known as the 'firebird.' Every time it flaps, its wings flare and burn brightly. Its virtues symbolize the Pokémon League competitions."

(Mew then looks at the torch.)

(and imagines about the legendary bird Pokemon that it has come from.)

Mew: "If that flame really is lit from the flames of Moltres, then it's more than just a legend. Moltres has to be real."

(Mew says.)

Misty: "And you want to catch one…"

(Misty suspects.)

Mew: "Maybe, but Legendary Pokemon like Moltress deserve to be free. I always believe that many Legendary and Mythical Pokemon deserve to roam free in the wild. Although, I think Shaymin is an exception."

(Mew says.)

Misty: "You're right, Shaymin really likes you and wants to stay."

(Misty says.)

Brock: "You can say that again."

(Brock says.)

(Mew looks at the torch.)

Mew: "I wish I could carry the torch for the Pokemon League. It would have been a huge honor to carry the same as Moltres."

Misty: "Maybe someday, you will,"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "We better move out of the way. Here they come,"

(Brock says.)

(Everyone agrees and moves out of the way for the torch runner to come through.)

(Everyone cheers for excitement to see the torch running carrying the torch of the Pokemon League.)

(Suddenly, a giant hole caves down from under him.)

(and the jogger falls down into the hole, sending the torch flying.)

Misty: "Oh no!"

(Misty exclaims.)

Brock: "The torch!"

(Brock says, shocked.)

(Mew gasps and quickly runs over and catches the torch before it falls to the ground.)

(Mew finds herself sitting on the ground and is holding the torch in the air.)

(Everyone is surprised, but soon cheers to see the torch has been saved.)

(Misty and Brock hurry to the hole to help the jogger with Hitmonchan's help.)

(Tomo and the Pokemon run to Mew.)

Tomo: "Are you okay, sis?"

(Tomo asks.)

Mew: "I'm fine, but I wonder where that hole came from,"

(Mew wonders.)

(Suddenly, they hear James' voice.)

James: "Up here twerps!"

Jessie: "Thanks for catching the torch for us."

(Jessie's voice speaks up.)

(Mew, Tomo, and everyone else look up to see Team Rocket's hot air balloon.)

(including Team Rocket inside the basket.)

(With that, Team Rocket performs their motto.)

Jessie: Prepare for trouble!

James: Make it double!

Jessie: To protect the world from devastation!

James: To unite all peoples within our nation!

Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love!

James: To extend our reach to the stars above!

Jessie: Jessie!

James: James!

(Then they leap down to the surface.)

Jessie: Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!

James: Surrender now, or prepare to fight!

Meowth: Meowth! That's right!

(With that, Team Rocket lands in front of Mew and her friends.)

Everyone: "Team Rocket!"

(Mew and her friends exclaims.)

Jessie: "That's right, twerps. We're here to our special score."

(Jessie says.)

(Then James says.)

James: "And to capture your Pokemon while we're adding it."

Meowth: "So hand over the torch and make it snappy,"

(Meowth says.)

Mew: "No way. This Torch is supposed to light the flame for the Pokemon League. Without it, the Pokemon League can't go on."

(Mew says.)

Jessie: "Like we actually care for you little twerp,"

(Jessie says.)

James: "So hand over the torch if you don't want it going out,"

(James says.)

Mew: "No way."

(Mew denies.)

(Then brings out her Pokeball.)

Mew: "I'm afraid you'll have to leave."

(She then throws her Pokeball and calls out.)

Mew: "Go Beedrill!"

(With that, Beedrill comes out of its Pokeball.)

(Then Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Beedrill, use Pin Missile!"

(With that, Beedrill performs the Pin Missile and fires at the balloon until it pops.)

(With that, the Balloon is sent flying with Team Rocket in it, and they let out screams.)

(Jessie screams.)

Jessie: "That twerp burst out our bubble!"

James: "And her Beedrill Pin Missile is sharp!"

(James screams.)

Meowth: "That Beedrill has a sharp sting!"

(Meowth says.)

(Then Team Rocket screams.)

Team Rocket: "We're blasting off again!"

(Soon, Team Rocket has been blasted off into the distance.)

(Tomo walks to Mew.)

Tomo: "That was an easy victory."

Misty: "Yeah. You sure showed them,"

(Misty says.)

(Mew pats Beedrill.)

Mew: "More like Beedrill did. You did a great job."

(Beedrill is happy to hear the compliment.)

(Then Mew calls it back to its Pokeball.)

Mew: "Return Beedrill."

(and Beedrill returns to her Pokeball.)

???: "That is quite an impressive attack young lady."

(A voice says.)

(The group turns to see an elderly man with long gray hair and a long beard too.)

(He is wearing a red jacket, green shorts, white socks with sneakers, and a purple cap pulled behind on his head.)

Mew: "Oh, hello. Who are you?"

(Mew replies.)

(Officer Jenny comes over and says.)

Officer Jenny: "This is the Honorable Mr Charles Goodshow, president of the Pokemon League in all the regions."

Mew: "Hello. I'm Mew, and these are my partners Pikachu and Eevee."

(Mew says.)

Pikachu: "Pika!" (Hi!)

(Pikachu says.)

Eevee: "Eevee!" (Hello!)

(Eevee says.)

Misty: "I'm Misty, and this Togepi, and Pichu,"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "I'm Brock,"

(Brock says.)

Tomo: "I'm Tomo, and these are my partners, Meloetta and Skwovet,"

(Tomo says.)

Meloetta: "Meloetta," (Hello.)

(Meloetta happily says.)

Skwovet: "Skwovet," (Hi.)

(Skwovet replies.)

Mr. Goodshow: "It's a pleasure to meet you. And I like to thank you all personally for saving the torch and stopping those bad guys."

(Mr. Goodshow says.)

Mew: "You're welcome,"

(Mew says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Anyway, the runner has been injured and so I decided to ask you a favor Mew."

(Mr. Goodshow says.)

Mew: "A favor?"

(Mew says, confused.)

(Mr. Goodshow nods his head and says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Yes. How would you like to become a torchbearer?

Mew: "Me?"

(Mew says, surprised.)

(Then Mew became embarrassed.)

Mew: "I well…"

(Brock then says to Mew.)

Brock: "You should do it. Being a torchrunner is an honor."

Tomo: "And you did say you like to be one."

(Tomo says.)

Misty: "Tomo and Brock are right. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,"

(Misty says.)

Pikachu: "Pika Pika," (You should do it.)

(Pikachu agrees.)

Eevee: "Eevee," (Do it.)

(Eevee says.)

(Mew smiles and turns to Mr. Goodshow.)

(She nods her head and says.)

Mew: "I'll do it. But um, will you guys be with me."

Brock: "Sure. I don't mind being a torchrunner,"

(Brock says.)

Tomo: "Alright!"

(Tomo cheers.)

(Then kneels down to Pikachu and Eevee.)

Mew: "You guys want to run with me."

Pikachu: "Pika Pika," (Of course we will.)

(Pikachu happily says.)

(Then Eevee says.)

Eevee: "Eevee Eevee." (We're right behind you, Mew.)

(Mr. Goodshow smiles and says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Good. Then it's on to the Pokemon League!"

(With that, Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee are the first to run with the torch.)

(Misty and the others are riding in a large van on the upper seat with Officer Jenny riding on her motorbike.)

(Then, Mew lights up the other torch of the Pokemon League to Misty.)

(Now it's her turn.)

(Now it's Tomo along with Meloetta and Skwovet.)

(Finally, it's Brock and Vulpix's turn to hold the torch for the Pokemon League.)

(Soon enough, Mew and her friends can see the Indigo Plateau stadium.)

(Mew says, excited.)

Mew: "There it is!"

Tomo: "It's the stadium! It's big!"

(Tomo says.)

Mew: "The stadium sure looks great, Mr. President,"

(Mew says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Yes, Mew. It's empty now, but tomorrow, it will be filled to capacity, for the opening ceremonies of the Pokémon League competition!"

(Mr. Goodshow says.)

(Soon enough, Mew and the others arrive.)

(as the crowd cheers to see the torch with Mew and her friends arrive.)

(Brock waves and calls out.)

Brock: "Thank you! Thank you, everybody! We finally made it!

(Then hands the torch to Mr. Goodshow.)

Brock: "I present you with the flame of Moltres."

Mr. Goodshow: "Thank you. I trust you'll all be at the opening ceremonies tomorrow?"

(Mr. Goodshow replies.)

Everyone: "Yes!"

(Mew and her friends answer.)

(Everyone applauds with smiles.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Jolly good show!"

(Mr. Goodshow happily says.)

(Later in the evening, Mew and her friends arrive at a small village where there are many Pokemon trainers staying.)

Brock: "Wow! The Pokémon League Village!"

(Brock says, amazed

Mew: "This is great! It's where all the Pokemon trainers stay during the competition,"

(Mew says.)

Tomo: "It looks amazing."

(Tomo says.)

???: "Hey Mew, glad to see you finally made it,"

(A familiar voice speaks up.)

(Mew and her friends turn to see Gary sitting at the table and having a drink.)

Mew: "Hey Gary, glad you see you here too. Then again, you've already got more than eight badges,"

(Mew says.)

Gary: "Yeah. Glad to see you finally made it, though you were going to be late."

(Gary teases.)

Mew: "Never would have dreamed of it,"

(Mew says.)

Gary: "Anyway, make sure you give it your all Mew. Of course, you know I will."

(Gary says.)

(Mew smiles and says.)

Mew: "You know it."

Gary: "Great. Let's see if you and I can battle together in the Pokemon League."

(Gary says.)

Mew: "Yeah. I've been itching to battle you for some time."

(Mew says.)

(Gary says.)

Gary: "We'll see if we can battle against each other at the finals."

Mew: "Yeah. The finals it is."

(Mew says with a smile.)

(Later in the night in cabin 12.)

(Brock, Misty, Tomo, and most of the Pokemon are fast asleep in their bed.)

(However, Mew is the only one who isn't sleeping.)

(She's deep in thought about everything.)

(How she's been raised by Pokemon and meets Gary and Professor Oak to live with him in his lab.)

(Then go on her journey, meet wonderful friends: Humans and Pokemon.)

(Then gaining all her badges and having wonderful adventures.)

(Mew sighs and says.)

Mew: "I can't sleep."

(Mew then gets out of bed, gets dressed and decides to go out for a walk.)

(Then, she also takes something from her backpack and leaves to take a walk.)

(At the stadium of the Indigo Plateau, Mr. Goodshow is looking from the stands to see the Pokemon battle field.)

(He knows that tomorrow is the opening ceremony of the Pokemon League.)

(He then turns his head to notice Mew is looking at the stadium.)

(Mew says in her thoughts.)

Mew [in mind ]: "I… I really hope I'm ready for this. I've gone so far since I left home and started to become a Pokemon trainer."

(She then reaches into her pocket and holds something in her hand.)

(She opens it to reveal the rainbow feather that she has received from the Pokemon she, Pikachu, and Eevee have seen on their journey.)

(She remembers everything she has gone through and how hard she has worked to get this far.)

(Mew holds it close to her and remembers the fond memories.)

(Since she has received the feather, it kind of became her good luck charm.)

(and brings memories of when she first started her journey.)

(She says in thought.)

Mew [in mind ]: "I've gone so far and done so much. I can't give up now."

(Mr. Goodshow calmly says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "She's got spirit."

(Mew smiles and says.)

Mew: "I'll do my best and I'll do my best to win. I'll win as long as I do the best I can."

(The next day, the opening ceremony of the Pokemon League is underway.)

(A large red ball opens from under and confetti, streamers, and a flock of Pidgey fly out into the sky.)

(Soon, the crowd begins to cheer.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "And the opening ceremonies of the Pokémon League competition are officially underway! This is where the top Pokemon trainers and their Pokémon come to prove their strength, their skill, and their spirit! These hopeful competitors will battle one another as they strive only for excellence and victory! The victory they will need to enter the ranks of the Pokémon master! And here they come!"

(Soon, the trainers entering the Pokemon League.)

(come out before the audience, much to their excitement.)

announcer: "The competitors are proudly entering the stadium, each having proven their worthiness by winning a minimum of eight gym badges!"

(The announcer adds.)

(At the stands, Misty, Brock, Tomo, and the Pokemon are with Mr. Goodshow.)

Misty: "Wow! This is exciting!"

(Misty says, excited.)

Brock: "I can't wait to see Mew,"

(Brock says.)

(Just then, Misty notices.)

Misty: "There! She just came in!"

Brock: "And there's Pikachu and Eevee!

(There, she sees Mew, Pikachu and Eevee.)

Misty: "I guess they're still nervous,"

(Misty says.)

(Then Brock notices Gary and says.)

Brock: "Gary doesn't."

(Just then, Tomo notices.)

Tomo: "Hey guys! There's Otoshi and Marowak."

(Misty and the others look to see him and Marowak.)

(Soon, Misty becomes surprised to see one of the trainers.)

Misty: "Wait… is that A.J?"

(Brock looks over to see a familiar green haired boy with a Sandshrew on his shoulder.)

Brock: "You're right, it is A.J,"

(Brock says.)

(Then notices.)

Brock: "And look, there's the Nurse Joy we met at the Admission's exam. And there's Joe, too."

Misty: "Wow. Some of the trainers we met are here,"

(Misty says.)

Brock: "This is going to get interesting,"

(Brock says.)

(Soon, all the trainers are standing before the torch.)

(where Moltres flame will be burning for the Pokemon League.)

(Then the announcer says.)

announcer: "And now, the trainer bearing the flame of Moltres has entered for the official lighting of the central torch which will burn throughout the Pokémon League competition."

(There a female trainer, who is another torchrunner is carrying the toward and towards the long staircase.)

Misty: "The central torch? Where is that?"

(Misty asks.)

Mr. Goodshow: "At the top of those steps,"

(Mr. Goodshow says.)

(Misty, Brock, and Tomo look to see the center torch.)

(There, the trainer carrying the torch reaches the top.)

(only to be greeted by mysterious characters wearing greet outfits.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "This is a surprise, it looks like two robed figures representing the League are about to accept the flame."

(Seeing them, Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee realize there is trouble.)

(Just then, a familiar voice says.)

???: "I'll take that torch, little girl."

(Mew rushes up and calls out.)

Mew: "Wait! Don't let them get that flame!

(While the trainer is distracted, Jessie snatches the torch saying.)

Jessie: "Too late, twerp!"

(Then, the figures remove their disguises to reveal Team Rocket.)

Misty: "It's Team Rocket!"

(Misty exclaims.)

Mew: "Do you three have to ruin everything?!"

(Mew demands.)

(Then Meowth comes in.)

Meowth: "Maybe not everything, and maybe we aren't the stars because we're the villains, but we try to do what we can."

Jessie: "Cool it, kid. There's no reason to get fired up over an old flame!"

(Jessie says.)

Mew: "We'll see about that!"

(Mew says.)

(Just then, James calls out.)

James: "Weezing, Smog attack!"

(Weezing comes out and uses the attack.)

(blinding Mew and her friends at Team Rocket goes up to the center torch.)

(Jessie laughs.)

Jessie: "If you thought stealing the flame was hot, wait till you see what else we've got."

(Jessie lights up the torch.)

(but the smog clears to reveal the news robot Team Rocket has.)

(In the robot, James says.)

James: "Why settle for a flimsy little flame? Right, Jessie?

Jessie: "Right! Let's live large!"

(Jessie says.)

Meowth: "Yeah, and let's put the heat on that kid,"

(Meowth says.)

James: "She'll feel the heat, alright, when we pour on, the firepower,"

(James says.)

(Outside, the robot takes the central torch and puts it on its back.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "Ladies and gentlemen, the central torch has just been stolen by a giant, mechanical monster!"

Mr. Goodshow: "Without the flame of Moltres, we can't start the competition! This is awful!"

(Mr. Goodshow says, shocked.)

Meowth: "I say we get this bucket of bolts moving and start scooping up as many Pokémon as we can!"

(Meowth says.)

James: "There's no backseat driving allowed in here, Meowth! Hold on! Here we, go!"

(James says.)

(The robot leaps into the battlefield below, causing the trainers in the league to panic and run.)

James: "Let the games begin!"

(James says with laughter.)

(Mew and her Pokemon reach down the stairs.)

(Mew calls out.)

Mew: "Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt attack, now!"

(With that, both Pokemon perform Thunderbolt and hit the robot, but to no effect.)

Mew: "It's not use! It's not working!"

(Mew says.)

(Soon, the robot begins to turn towards them, and Mew and the others make a run for it.)

(Team Rocket laughs.)

James: "Our shock-proofing gave that rancid, little rat a power failure!"

(James says.)

(Mew throws her Pokeball and calls out.)

Mew: "Bulbasaur, I choose you!"

(With that, bulbasaur enters the field.)

Mew: "Bulbasaur, Razor Leaf attack!"

(Mew calls out.)

(Bulbasaur launches its attack.)

(but Team Rocket's robot uses the central torch to burn the leaves.)

Mew: "Oh no!"

(Mew exclaims in shock.)

Jessie: "That Bulbasaur's leaves made our bonfire bigger!"

(Jessie says.)

(Soon, Mew, and her Pokemon are backed against the wall.)

(Misty panics.)

Misty: "Mew is trapped!"

Brock: "Hurry, run for it!"

(Brock calls out.)

Mew: "I'm not running away! Not from here! I came here to compete in the Pokémon League, and now you're trying to wreck this competition and everything the League stands for! Well, we're not gonna let you do it! Not if I can help it!"

(Mew says, determined.)

(Then shouts.)

Mew: "Take your best shot, Team Rocket!"

(Soon, Team Rocket fires.)

(Misty and Tomo cry out.)

Misty and Tomo: "Mew, look out!

(Soon, Mew quickly tries to protect her Pokemon.)

(but soon, she opens her eyes to find herself in the flames.)

(but isn't getting burned or feeling the heat.)

(Mew and her Pokemon are shocked and yet, relieved.)

(Mew turns to her Pokemon.)

Mew: "We're okay!"

(Team Rocket are especially shocked.)

Meowth: "What happened?"

(Meowth asks.)

Jessie: "The kid should be crisp,"

(Jessie adds.)

(Soon appearing in the flame is the firebird/ legendary Pokemon, Moltres.)

(Mew becomes surprised and ends up smiling.)

Mew: "Moltres!"

(Moltres lets out a screech.)

(Mr. Goodshow happily says.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Moltres is back! In a beautiful blaze of glory!"

(Moltres then performs a dive bomb towards Team Rocket.)

(Frightened, Jessie says.)

Jessie: "I, think our plan."

James: "Backfired!"

(James finishes.)

(Team Rocket panics as Moltres reaches towards them.)

(With one fell swoop, Team Rocket's robot explodes and sends them flying.)

(They all scream.)

Team Rocket: "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"

(The central torch flies off as the robot is destroyed and returns to its position.)

(and Moltres lands in the flame, lighting it.)

(The announcer says.)

announcer: "Ladies and gentlemen, the opening ceremonies will now continue. Here is President Goodshow to greet our competitors."

(On the stage, Mr. Goodshow announces.)

Mr. Goodshow: "Welcome, one and all. This stadium is a very special place, a place where those who truly love Pokemon come to compete. Here, the glow from the flame of Moltres burns bright to light up their hearts and their spirits. Battle valiantly, and keep that fire alive, in your hearts and in your spirits!"

(Mew, who is among the trainers, says in thought.)

Mew: "Thank you, Moltres. I'll keep the fire alive."

(She then turns to her Pokemon and says.)

Mew: "Pikachu. Eevee. We finally made it to the Pokémon League."

(And so the Opening Ceremony of the Pokemon League comes to a close.)

(Mew and her Pokemon are now officially ready to start the Pokemon League.)

(will be facing different opponents and will do her very best and plan to try winning it.)

(Of course, she knows that her journey in the Pokemon League is only beginning.)
