Chapter 86

Allison's POV

I'm actually sick. Like, chills-sweeping-through-my-bones sick. My whole body feels like it's been plucked from a bed and dumped in Antarctica. A fever that seems to have sprung from nowhere is rolling through me, dark and feverish, and it terrifies me. I pull the covers over my head, shaking uncontrollably, shivering like jelly against cold glass.

"Hey, you okay?" a calm voice asks, tugging the covers back slightly.

The face that greets me nearly stops my heart. Squinting, I recognize him, though barely—one of Darius' lawyers, the youngest of them. He looks oddly different with those rectangular glasses perched on his nose, giving his face a calm, clinical look. Great, I think. The one moment I need a real doctor, and Darius sends one of his legal minions instead. Just perfect timing to have a "fake doctor" show up as I'm practically dissolving in fever.
