"Damn it!" Volk growled, his voice muffled as the webbing covered his face.
Despite his strength and determination, the spider's relentless assault was too much. Within moments, Volk was completely wrapped up, his body immobilized in a thick cocoon of webbing.

For the first time, Volk felt a flicker of doubt. Had he underestimated this creature? Was this the end?
The cavern fell into a strange, tense silence, broken only by the subtle sounds of the spider's mandibles clicking together as it stood over the cocoon that had become Volk's prison. Wrapped tightly in layer upon layer of the spider's webbing, the cocoon pulsated faintly, almost imperceptibly at first—a mere ripple of motion, like the stirring of a dormant beast.
