74.5: Destroying the World in Thirty Days (2/2)

"But among every one hundred infected individuals, there would also be one who could retain their sanity and not turn into a zombie.

— These survivors would fall into a coma after being infected, but once they awakened, they were no different from ordinary people, but due to their perfect fusion with the virus, they would gain immunity and become incredibly strong, agile, and intelligent!

A traitor within Umbrella named Albert Wesker emerged at that time and rejoined the company, voluntarily participating in the experiments.

After injecting the virus and surviving, his strength reached 20 tons, and his speed increased to 150 meters per second.

Umbrella then named the virus extracted from these zombies the 'Ascension Virus.'

Later, Wesker, having grown stronger, quickly took control of Umbrella.

By that time, I had already exposed Umbrella's crimes, and they were being hunted by governments around the world.

However, Wesker was unfazed by this and instead launched his plan for human evolution.

— Which involved the global release of the Ascension Virus.

London, Berlin, Monaco, Moscow, Tokyo...

Umbrella, being a global pharmaceutical company,"

"They had branches in nearly every country.

Even under global pursuit, these branches still had the capability to release the virus.

And so, on the night of October 8, European time, the Ascension Virus, which could be transmitted through the air, spread to most parts of the world.

In just a few hours, the capitals of hundreds of countries fell one after another.

Five days later, Russia abandoned its Eastern European borders and relocated all survivors to Siberia, where they established a temporary capital in the frozen tundra.

The UK and France saw most of their cities fall, and their temporary command centers were moved to air defense bases.

What defeated them wasn't the strength of the zombies, but the virus's infection rate and their own disorganized systems of governance.

October 15:

An increasing number of superhumans, who survived after being infected by the virus, were noticed.

It was this group of people that brought about a significant change in the situation, giving countries the means to better resist the zombie hordes.

October 16:

The entire United States fell into a full-blown zombie crisis, and the economy completely collapsed.

On this day, Texas declared its independence.

On one hand, the military's bombing of New York had shattered the nation's spirit.

On the other hand, a group of superhumans came to the forefront, seizing power through both military force and public speeches, forming a new government.

October 17:

States including Florida and Louisiana declared independence as well.

It was also on this day that Jill, Marvin, and their team, while moving between different states, became trapped in a small town in Missouri.

Upon receiving their distress signal, I went to their aid and eliminated the zombies surrounding the town.

October 18:

With my help, Jill and her group arrived at a new Raccoon City located in Colorado.

At Ada Wong's request, I went to Canada to bring Bard and the others back to Raccoon City.

Everyone was reunited once again.

October 19:

Ada Wong made the information from her investigation public.

Everyone came to know that the so-called Ascension Virus was actually a derivative of the S-virus prototype that you, Master Lyon had researched.

That same day, Jill personally asked me for the original virus sample and injected it into herself while out in the wild.

She survived.

And because she had injected the virus in its purest form, she became far stronger than the average superhuman, with strength surpassing 30 tons and speed exceeding 200 meters per second.

October 23:

Under Jill's leadership, Colorado declared its independence, establishing its capital in Raccoon City.

On this day, most southern states in the United States declared independence as well, leaving only seven northern states still supporting the old government.

October 27:

A faction known as "The Family" took control of the former U.S. government.

They dropped a nuclear bomb on Moscow and London, both of which had already fallen to the zombies.

The stated reason was to eliminate the zombies and save humanity.

October 28:

Russia dropped a nuclear bomb on Washington, citing the same reason: saving humanity. The old U.S. government failed to intercept it in time.

Early morning of October 29:

In the early hours of today, the old U.S. government announced that they would launch a nuclear strike against Russia's temporary capital.

Russia also declared that they would target the capitals of the independent states within the U.S. with nuclear strikes.

At present, there are only five hours left until the scheduled launch of dozens of nuclear missiles."

At this point, Jarvis finally stopped speaking.

But the tremors in Tony's mind were unstoppable.

His heart was shaking as he looked at Lyon in utter disbelief.

"This is the virus you developed?" Tony's pupils dilated in shock. "You were only gone for twelve hours, and you almost destroyed an entire world?"

"Umm.." Lyon's face darkened. "Yes, I developed the virus, but I also destroyed it!"

"I made sure to destroy every virus container, wrecked the lab, and even used my X-ray vision to confirm that there were no living creatures around the lab."

"Not even a single spider!"

"Where on earth did that rat come from?"

"And how did it happen to infect HUNK so precisely, biting no one else? And after infecting him, it gets killed immediately?"

"This is totally the doing of the world consciousness! It messed up and now wants me to clean up the mess!"

Connecting with the emotions previously shared by the world consciousness, Lyon finally understood what was going on.

[Leave, evolve, out of control, gift, save! Gift! Save!!]

"Leaving" referred to his departure.

"Evolve" referred to the world consciousness pushing for evolution.

It became clear that the world consciousness had only primitive emotions and no logical reasoning. It thought that after Lyon left, he wouldn't return.

So, to continue driving the global evolution of organisms, the moment he left, it hurried a rat into the lab ruins, making sure it absorbed as much of the lingering virus in the air as possible.

After all, the S-virus prototype could survive in the air for up to six hours.

Lyon figured that when he destroyed the containers, some of the virus must have evaporated.

But in the air, there were at most only a few scattered virus strains, and even if someone walked in, they could leave unharmed.

Yet those few strains were all inhaled into that rat's lungs, where they multiplied rapidly.

And after absorbing them, the rat immediately ran out of the lab, just to wait for Hunk, the "chosen one."

You see, this whole thing was orchestrated by the world consciousness. It's clearly a self-destructive move — how can it be blamed on Lyon?

"I really didn't expect the world consciousness to be such a radical," Lyon rubbed his forehead. "Never mind, let's head to Raccoon City first, then we'll figure out what to do next."
