After taking time to grind and level up on my own, I felt more confident. My stats were higher, my skills sharper, but the feeling of emptiness still lingered. I kept missing SS for some reason. I suppose it was time to go on another quest or something.
When I logged back in, I found a message waiting for me from him. He was planning a new adventure—a journey to Phantom City, one of the last active cities still teeming with players. But there was a catch: to reach it, we had to cross the Mist—a treacherous region filled with super bosses and deadly challenges. He was inviting me to join him, but it wasn't going to be easy.
I hesitated for a moment, considering the risks. But then I remembered why I'd started this journey in the first place. I wasn't just here to get stronger; I was here to have fun with friends, or rather friend. Without further thought, I accepted his invite.
We met up at the edge of the Mist, the dense fog swirling ominously in front of us. The atmosphere was tense, filled with a sense of foreboding. ShadowStalker greeted me with a nod, his usual confident grin in place.
"Ready?" he asked, his tone casual, but I could sense the underlying tension.
"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, trying to match his nonchalance.
"Cheeky, I like it."
Daisy: Whee!
Together, we stepped into the Mist. The world around us quickly faded, swallowed by the thick, impenetrable fog. Visibility was almost zero, and the silence was unnerving. Every step felt like we were walking into the unknown, with danger lurking just out of sight.
The first sign of trouble came quickly. Out of nowhere, a massive figure emerged from the fog—a super boss, its eyes glowing with malice. It was a hulking beast, easily a hundred times our size, with armor that looked impenetrable. I could feel my heart rate spike as it roared, shaking the ground beneath our feet.
"We fighting that thing?!" I shouted, instinctively reaching for my weapon.
But ShadowStalker grabbed my arm, pulling me back. "No, we need to run."
"What? But we can—"
"Trust me on this," he insisted, his voice steady. "We're not ready for this one."
Reluctantly, I followed his lead. We turned and sprinted back the way we came, the beast's thunderous footsteps echoing behind us. The Mist seemed to close in, making every movement feel sluggish, like we were running through water. The tension was palpable, each second stretching out as we raced to escape.
Finally, the Mist began to thin, the edge of the region coming into view. We burst through the fog, back into the relative safety of the open world. The beast didn't follow, its growls fading as we left the Mist behind.
Panting, we came to a stop, catching our breath. I looked at ShadowStalker, frustration bubbling up inside me.
"We could've taken it," I said, though even I wasn't sure if I believed it. I mean, SS was a super veteran and together we took down a boss with a level requirement of 49!
'I didn't see this one's level requirement tho.' I didn't even catch its name to be honest.
He shook his head. "Lv99."
"OH…"
I sighed, retreating was the smarter move.
"Phantom City is just ahead," ShadowStalker said, nodding toward the horizon.
I noddedThe Mist had been more than just a physical challenge—it had tested my patience, my trust in ShadowStalker, and my understanding of what it meant to be a team.
