Judging by the snarl and growl of insolence, I realized Alston didn't appreciate my stepping in. Fearfully, I cowered as he slowly snaked himself closer. His wolf was moving athletically toward me.
Still in human form, the rest of the rogues heckled me.
"What were you thinking, attacking Alston?" Curt chided, pointing at me. With hostility, he towered over me.
Stephanie shoved me, adding, "He's our head rogue. Just do you think you are?"
Alston shifted and laughed snidely.
"Calm down, my brethren." He waved his hands at the group. "Do you really think she could inflict damage upon me? She doesn't even have her wolf." Even though he was saying he was better than me, that wasn't all he felt. His smile faded to a scowl of disdain as we locked eyes. I felt ice in my veins when he approached.
