I gulped, staring at the shoe in his hand, trying to think of a way to get myself out of this sticky situation. It would probably be weird if I turned and bolted out of his office, shoving everyone in my path away. Not only would it be weird, it would make me look awfully guilty, and Aiden would finally figure out the truth.


Besides, I’ve finally managed to make some progress in my relationship with Aiden. I was worried that a discovery of this magnitude would ruin everything I had worked for.


 What’s the worst that could happen? Oh, I don’t know. I could lose my job? I would be known as the girl that slept with her boss…


Not knowing what else to do, I reached out toward the shoe with trembling hands, my heart pounding in my ears.
