Chapter 30: He Took the Fall for Me

I watched Aiden’s face as I dropped the bombshell, bracing myself for the storm I knew was coming. His eyes widened, eyebrows shooting up, and for a moment, he looked like a cartoon character who’d just had an anvil dropped on his head. It would have been hilarious if it wasn’t so terrifying.

For a second, I thought he might need a moment to process what I'd said, so I repeated myself.

“I’m the woman from that night,” I said, my voice barely more than a whisper.

Aiden’s expression morphed from shock to something resembling irritation. He sighed, running a hand through his hair in that way he did when he was frustrated. “Sure you were,” he said, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
