Alex was just your typical 16-year-old high schooler who wanted nothing more than a simple, carefree life, cherishing his friends, family, and quietly harboring feelings for his crush.
Life followed its usual, comfortable routine: hanging out with his best friend, playing sports with classmates, losing every chess game to his crush, and sharing meals with his family. What more could he ask for?
What defines happiness? Money? Fame? Power? Love? For Alex, the answer was simple: a life of love and ease. He had never known the taste of true suffering.
One day, on a bright summer of august, Alex went on hiking with the entire class along with his younger brother Ethan and his best friend Joshua together
Ethan was an extra load that the principal gave special permission to cause he was the topper of his class, while not knowing that he was an extremely vigorous kid.
It had not even been 5 minutes, Joshua and Ethan were racing with each other. Alex tried to stop them but knowing them fully well, he just had to keep up with their pace for that's all he could do at the moment.
All three of them were deep in the forest, much so, at the top of the mountain. Both of the energetic duo were lying on top of a rock.
'It isn't that soothing of a life now if I actually think' Alex murmurs as he bends on his knees out of breath, irritated by these two knuckleheads.
Joshua quickly stands up, "So where are we" He speaks calmly as if it wasn't a big deal.
"Thanks to you two idiots we are lost" Alex looks at the unknown surroundings, they really were extremely far from their camp.
"It's fine, I have the map with me." Ethan spoke with confidence.
"Alright then, let's get back to the camp before the teacher notic…" As Alex was about to finish his words, the clouds started to get dark extremely quick.
"This is bad," Ethan spoke worriedly.
"Thanks to you" Alex hits him in his head.
"It hurts brother" Huge bump grew on his head.
The wind began to howl, raindrops hit the ground, and the looming clouds darkened even more.
They started walking cautiously for half an hour until they could finally see a glimpse of the camp.
Ecstatic, Ethan started running toward the camp. Anxious, Alex shouted for him to stop, they were still high on the mountain, and one slip could end it all.
Suddenly, a strong wind swept past them. Alex grabbed onto a rock to keep from being blown away. Ethan clung tightly to the nearest tree, shutting his eyes and refusing to let go. Joshua, reaching for an old tree branch, watched in horror as it snapped under his grip.
Alex's heart sank as he saw Joshua toppled.
Joshua was already falling. Alex couldn't move, if he left his spot, the wind would carry him away too. Desperately, he grabbed the rope from his waist and flung it toward Joshua, who was sliding down the rocky slope.
Joshua reached for the rope, but it was just out of reach. He missed and vanished over the cliff's edge.
Before coming to this place, Alex made preparations for everything. From safety gears to all three of them, to double checking the weather again and again. It was predicted to have a 100% sunny day so why. Why was this misfortune happening? His entire life he had lived on pure calculations, that's the only way he managed to dodge every catastrophe, every unexpected event, every disadvantageous situation, even this time too.
"Less than 7 people have died in the Nianra forest in the last decade" is what his research had shown. "There is no dangerous wild animals in Nianra"
"Stay safe from Huntsman spiders though" These were the only things he had to keep a close eye on. His entire room was filled with newspapers.
The wind had calmed down. Quickly snapping from the flashback, he rushes towards the end of the cliff with desperate eyes.
Luckily, Joshua was clinging to a tree below the cliff, barely holding on. Extremely stressed, Alex let out a relieved smile. My efforts weren't all for nothing, at least this rope came useful.
The tree, barely able to hold on Joshua's weight, was starting to loosen. Ethan was coming for help, but Alex with a serious face tells him to stay where he is. The wind was unpredictable, he didn't want Ethan to leave his place since it was far from them and there were no trees or rocks nearby to support him.
'I may not look strong, but I have always hidden my natural strength, I can easily carry Joshua on.' He smiles as if he is proud of his concealment.
Alex's hands were shaking from pain, he managed to pull Joshua up, but just as Joshua reached the top, huge wind came by and swept the both of them.
Ethan with a depressed face runs towards them falling, Alex shouts "Ethan don't you dare move, Call the rescue team!"
Knowing full well this is it for both him and Joshua, at least his quick thinking helped Ethan from being spontaneous.
Joshua shouted "We are going to die!!!" It was so loud that it started to hurt Alex's ears. "Shut up! Let me die in peace"
"Whatttt!!! What die?..... I'm not dying!!!" Joshua was shouting too loud.
"Neither do I" For the first time, Joshua had seen Alex with teary eyes barely holding, on the brupt of exploding. Joshua then had a reality check and his eyes were beyond terrified, he just stared at the sky with wide eyes that seemed like it was almost gonna pop out.
Beyond the cliff was nothing but darkness. Soon Joshua, who was supposedly falling with Alex together, went missing.
15 minutes had passed by, but Alex was still falling with no signs of stopping. Mount Gura, I have never heard of it being this tall and why am I still alive again?
In an instant, Alex falls down in a mountain full of layers of ashes from volcanic eruptions that have accumulated over time.
Alex was fully covered in ashes, as he slowly gets out of it his eyes widened upon witnessing what he just saw.
The entire place was an ominous shade of dark red. Towering before him stood an enormous volcano, so colossal that its peak vanished into the heavens beyond sight. Its breadth stretched endlessly, far wider than his eyes could fathom, perhaps spanning 3 to 4 kilometers, if not more. The sky above was as dark as it could get, and the moon hung in it, like a crimson augury, drenched in bloody red.
But what shocked him the most was the presence of something that was making his heart tremble in fear.
A huge red Dragon was flying over the red moon, his bloody golden eyes seemed to be staring right at Alex, as if gauging straight into his soul.
