Chapter 89

Levinas approached me and suddenly grabbed my tail.

Knowing what she wanted to do, I had no choice but to step back.

"King, Levinas needs a tail!"

"To make cotton candy...?"

"Yes!"

The idea of making cotton candy with a tail seemed like something a child would come up with.

It was strange, but it was more efficient than using a wooden stick.

"The tail will get sticky."

"Levinas will wash it clean!"

"Uh, well..."

Levinas looked up at me with earnest eyes.

She really wanted to try that much.

Since today was a day to play with Levinas, I decided to go along with her wishes.

"...Okay."

"Yay!"

Levinas, holding onto my tail, sat in front of the cotton candy machine.

I slightly twisted my body to sit beside her.

"King, shall we?"

"Yes. Just make sure it doesn't touch the machine, just in case."

"Okay!"

Levinas nodded in understanding.

She had the reflexes characteristic of beast-kin, so there was no chance the tail would accidentally touch the machine.

As Levinas inserted my tail into the cotton candy machine, Yeoreum and Jung Yu-na slowly approached us.

The two women looked at me and Levinas, their eyes wide with surprise, then burst into laughter.

"Oh my, tail cotton candy?"

"Yes! Did Levinas discover this?!"

"Wow, that's amazing!"

Click-

Yeoreum took a photo of Levinas and me with her smartphone.

Jung Yu-na cast an unknown spell towards my tail.

"Is that magic?"

"Yes. Just in case, I put a protective spell on it."

"Aha."

With Jung Yu-na's magic, I wouldn't have to worry about getting hurt.

So, I sat there quietly, waiting for the cotton candy to be finished.

<+>

The mana stone sales counter on the first floor of the guild building.

Sophia was working part-time there.

Her work hours were just over four hours.

All her tasks could be done while sitting.

This was a consideration from the guild for Sophia, who had difficulty moving around.

"Sophia."

Yoo Sang-ah, sitting next to Sophia, poked her shoulder.

Sophia naturally looked up at Yoo Sang-ah.

"What's up?"

"Well, you see."

Yoo Sang-ah knew Sophia was much older than her.

However, she couldn't help but smile fondly due to her young and cute appearance.

It was delightful to have such a cute colleague sitting next to her.

It made her look forward to working hours.

"Do you want to see a video that was posted on the guild's SNS today?"

"A video?"

Sophia's gaze shifted to Yoo Sang-ah's smartphone.

On the large screen, two familiar children appeared.

Although the video was taken at a clever angle to avoid showing their faces, Sophia could tell they were Gyeoul and Levinas.

"It's so cute, I keep watching it."

"Hmm..."

Levinas was making cotton candy with Gyeoul's tail.

It was a sight so adorable it brought smiles to those watching.

"It's a relief to see them having fun."

It was comforting to see the young ones not living too hard a life, something that had weighed heavily on her mind.

She was glad to see them playing like children their age should.

Without realizing it, Sophia let out a small chuckle.

"It's nice to see."

"Yes. Aren't they just adorable?"

"Hmm."

Sophia silently nodded her head.

Then, Jung Yu-na showed her a new video.

It was of Levinas, seen from the back, eating cotton candy wrapped around Gyeoul's tail.

"King!"

"Yes?"

"Cotton candy is stuck on Levinas's favorite King! Levinas is the happiest in the world today!"

Levinas conveyed, with her interesting way of speaking, just how happy she was.

Whether it was happiness from her pure heart, Gyeoul's tail gently swayed.

"Wow, wow..."

Levinas tried to eat the cotton candy, but she couldn't because the swaying tail made it impossible.

The soft cotton of the cotton candy only managed to stick to various places on Levinas's face.

"Wow, King, can you stop the tail for a moment? It's hard for Levinas to eat the cotton candy."

"I can't stop it right now, sorry..."

"Uh, okay..."

The video ended with Levinas moving her head this way and that, unable to eat the cotton candy due to the rapid movements of the tail.

Apparently, the swaying of the tail was too fast, and Levinas ended up failing to eat the cotton candy.

The reactions in the comments were just as explosive as the cuteness of the video.

Sophia naturally scrolled through them.

[This is the cutest video I've seen in my life...]

[This video blew away all my fatigue in an instant!]

[I wish we had beast-kin children in our neighborhood tooㅜㅜ]

[Woooooow]

Perhaps it was because the children were so innocently pure that there were no negative comments to be seen.

Sophia thought that maybe, just maybe, the pure hearts of the children had melted even the negative human hearts.

They were that adorable, after all.

"It's good to see the children playing well."

"Yes. Maybe it's time for you to go, Sophia?"

"It's alright. I still have about twenty minutes left."

"The children will be waiting, won't they?"

The mention of the children waiting struck a chord in Sophia, making her shiver.

Yoo Sang-ah noticed Sophia's reaction.

"It would be odd for me to be the only one resting while everyone else is working."

"Having Sophia around makes the children happier. And seeing the children happy gives everyone in the guild a boost too."

"Hmm..."

Was playing with the children also considered a task that could boost the morale of the guild members?

It seemed strange, but it wasn't incorrect.

After all, the children were receiving a lot of love from the guild members.

"The morale of the guild is on Sophia's hands!"

"...I am not a child, so I'd prefer if you didn't speak to me in that tone."

"Oh, yes. My apologies."

With a bow, Yoo Sang-ah watched as Sophia stood up from her seat.

She was grateful to work with such considerate people.

"Then, would it be alright if I leave first?"

"Yes! That's fine!"

"Thank you, then."

Sophia, leaning on her cane, headed towards the park where the children were.

She was just grateful for the guild's consideration in scheduling her during less busy hours.

<+>

My tail was sticky.

Just like my tail, Levinas's hands and face were sticky too.

"Kids, it's time to wash up."

"Yes. We should wash up."

I brought out shampoo and soap from the container.

Since we only needed to wash our faces and tails, we decided to just wash up in the pond.

"Gyeoul, shall we wash in the pond?"

"Yes. It's the closest."

The pond water was being purified in real-time by a magical item.

A little shampoo or soap wouldn't pollute the pond.

"Uh, okay... it's fine, but..."

"But...?"

"...Never mind, just don't run down to the pond, okay?"

"Okay."

Yeoreum went down to the pond below and reached out her hand to me.

She carefully lowered me down to the pond by slipping her hands under my armpits.

"Yeoreum! Help Levinas too!"

"Okay. Wanna come here?"

Watching Yeoreum move towards Levinas, I dipped my tail into the water.

I rinsed my tail in the water like laundry, rubbing it with my hands to get the stickiness off.

That's when I heard Yeoreum's flustered voice.

"Gyeoul, this isn't cat shampoo, is it?"

"Yes. It is."

"It's for ears and tails...?"

"Yes. I bought it specifically for ears and tails."

"You bought it?"

Gulp

Yeoreum swallowed her saliva.

She was nervous, as if I was about to say something dreadful.

Of course, the reason wasn't as shocking as she thought.

"But buying both regular and cat shampoo would have been too tight on my budget. So, I just use that for my hair too."

"With cat shampoo...?"

"Yes."

Yeoreum came closer and started to fiddle with my hair, stroking and rubbing it between her fingers.

"I raised cats when I was younger, I know if you use cat shampoo, it usually makes your hair really stiff. But why is Gyeoul's so soft?"

"Well, I'm not sure...?"

Did that mean Yeoreum had also tried washing her hair with cat shampoo?

Just when I felt a strange sense of camaraderie, the familiar sound of a cane directed my gaze outside the pond.

"It's probably fine."

"It is?"

As Yeoreum turned to ask Sophia, I felt awkward just standing behind her, so I moved through the water to her side.

"The hair of beast-kin and humans is different. It shouldn't really matter."

"Ah..."

Yeoreum seemed to accept this explanation.

But I was left wondering.

"So, is it okay for me to use cat products?"

"Cat products...?"

"Yes. I looked into it when buying shampoo, and those were much cheaper."

At my words, Yeoreum and Sophia began to exchange glances.

The first to speak up was Yeoreum.

"Gyeoul, no matter what, you shouldn't eat cat food..."

"It's less than 10,000 won per kilo?"

"Please..."

"Um... Okay..."

So, it's not okay after all.

I had heard that cat and dog food are nutritionally complete and that it was even eaten during zombie apocalypses.

But, I decided to give up this time.

Honestly, I knew eating pet food was strange behavior.

'It was so cheap, though.'

Less than 10,000 won for 2Kg.

I wish human food was that cheap.

Feeling disappointed, I drooped my shoulders, and then Sophia cleared her throat conspicuously.

"Gyeoul, when I get my salary, I'll buy you lots of delicious food..."

Guilt was written all over Sophia's face.

It wasn't Sophia's fault at all that I was looking for cheap food, yet she looked so apologetic.

I just bowed my head in remorse.
