That afternoon, after returning from the dungeon, I discussed with Levinas how to unleash my wildness.
It was a conversation about how I could bring out my wild nature.
"Hey, wouldn't it be terrible if you became even scarier?"
"Why?"
"Levinas might end up crying out of fear!"
That's true.
Levinas doesn't have immunity to fear.
It seemed better to enhance Levinas's immunity to fear rather than my wildness.
I couldn't scare her every time I unleashed my wild nature.
"Should we train then?"
"Train?"
"Yeah. Training to endure scary things."
"Wow! That's amazing!"
Levinas, delighted at the prospect of becoming a stronger person, jumped up from where she sat.
Her upper body shot up from the tunnel below to the outside.
Her jumping ability was indeed superior to anyone else's.
"Will Levinas become like the Long-Lived Horned Rabbit too?!"
The Long-Lived Horned Rabbit.
The name of the boss horned rabbit we caught in the dungeon.
"Yeah. Maybe you could become an even greater horned rabbit?"
"Wow! A horned rabbit greater than the Long-Lived Horned Rabbit!"
Levinas clasped her hands together as if praying.
It was clear how much she revered the Long-Lived Horned Rabbit.
"Then let's..."
As we were planning the training, the familiar sound of a cane approached us.
It was Sophia. Feeling the wagging tail, I looked up in the direction Sophia would appear from inside the tunnel.
The wagging of the tail sped up as the sound of her cane drew nearer.
"You guys."
Sophia appeared above the tunnel, poking Levinas and me on the head with her cane.
She used the softer end of her cane to poke us, so it didn't hurt.
"Sophia, what's going on...?"
"You've turned a beautiful park into a construction site."
"Huh?"
I stood on my tiptoes in the tunnel, poking my head out to look around.
The beautiful park made of green grass and flowers was completely turned over, turned into a dirt field.
It was because we carelessly threw the dug-up soil around.
"This is a park for everyone to enjoy. Flipping it like this will inconvenience others."
"I'm sorry..."
Sophia was right. It wasn't even mine to ruin, and yet I had spoiled the scenery of the park. I was at a loss for words.
"It's fine to dig, but make sure to tidy up the surroundings."
"Y-Yes..."
My ears and tail drooped down, feeling scolded by Sophia. I fidgeted with my fingers aimlessly.
"Don't be too down, I'm not angry."
"Okay..."
I need to replant the flowers and grass.
Make it look nice again.
And now I wonder, did the guild people not complain at all about me ruining the park's scenery?
I started to feel a bit guilty.
"Levinas."
"Why?!"
"I think we should start with cleaning."
"Cleaning?!"
"Yeah."
I nodded, looking up at the guild building.
Before tending to the park, we decided to clean the guild building first.
It was the least I could do in return for always being taken care of.
"Yeah! Levinas likes cleaning!"
"You like cleaning?"
"No! I hate cleaning!"
"Huh?"
She says she likes it, then she hates it. I was confused about what she meant.
"I hate cleaning, but I like doing anything with you! So, I like cleaning!"
"Ah..."
So, doing anything with someone you like is fun. I felt the same way about Levinas.
"I also hate cleaning, but I like it if I'm doing it with Levinas."
"Wow! You're the same as Levinas?!"
"Yeah."
As I spoke, I looked up at Sophia. A faint smile was on her lips.
It was clear she liked it too.
<+>
Levinas and I walked around the guild building with cleaning tools.
We wanted to clean as a way to give back to the guild people, but we had no idea where to start.
Maybe we should start by sweeping the floor.
But there wasn't a speck of dust.
Standing there with a broom, just staring at the floor, I heard Yoo Sang-ah's voice nearby.
"Oh, Gyeoul."
"Hello."
I bowed my head to her, and Yoo Sang-ah approached us. Her gaze was fixed on my broom.
"What are you doing?"
"I was about to clean."
"Clean?"
"Yes. I've always only received help from the guild. This time, I wanted to give back somehow."
Yoo Sang-ah smiled at my words and pointed to an elevator.
It was an elevator that only executive members of the guild used, one we were absolutely not supposed to approach.
"How about you take that and go see the Master?"
"The Master?"
"Yes. The first floor is enchanted to maintain cleanliness at all times."
Unbelievable.
Just like the pond maintains cleanliness through magic, so does the guild building.
It's a terrible thing, robbing cleaning workers of their livelihoods.
Feeling like a worker displaced by corporate exploitation, I looked up at Yoo Sang-ah with a sense of emptiness.
"How do cleaning workers make a living...?"
"Not every area is enchanted with magic. It's only on the first floor, where a lot of people come and go."
"Ah..."
So, workers and the corporation coexist in some agreement.
I was relieved to learn that the guild wasn't harming the workers.
"In fact, it's cheaper to hire people. The first floor has so much traffic that we had no choice but to use magic."
So, hiring people is more cost-effective than using magic.
It was a bit bittersweet, but considering it helps those making a living from cleaning, it wasn't a bad thing.
Convinced, I turned to look at the elevator Yoo Sang-ah had pointed out.
"Can I really go up in that?"
"Yes. There's no problem."
"Ah..."
It was said to be for executive use.
Had I heard a mistaken rumor?
After bidding Yoo Sang-ah farewell, Levinas and I boarded the elevator.
"Hey, the Master lives at the very top."
"Yeah. Levinas, do you want to press it?"
"Yes!"
Levinas pressed the button for the topmost floor, and the elevator began to ascend.
It was quite fast, and soon we arrived at the top floor.
Ding-
The elevator doors opened with a light alert sound, and we were greeted by individuals in black suits wearing sunglasses.
"Ah..."
Security guards protecting the building.
Each one was like a monster beyond my ability to handle.
As their gaze fell on me, I instinctively shrank back.
"I, I was just going to clean..."
I offered the broom towards the guards while looking down at the floor.
This elevator was indeed meant for executives.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be over ten guards stationed in front of the elevator.
"This is bad..."
I had no idea the security guards would be guarding the entrance.
Would they interrogate me for coming here?
Being a non-executive, I might even get disciplined for taking the elevator.
"I, um..."
Just as I was about to apologize and admit my mistake, the security guards stepped aside, making way for us.
It was as if they were saying it was fine for us to pass.
"...?"
Why are they letting us through without even a basic check?
While I was still puzzled and looking at them, Levinas, with a shout, began to run down the corridor.
"Yah!"
Even as Levinas darted through the guards, none of them tried to stop or restrain her.
It was okay for us to pass.
I followed Levinas.
"Hey! Over here! Here!"
"Uh, okay..."
Sometimes Levinas was incredibly brave.
With admiration for Levinas, I knocked on what I thought was the Master's office door.
Knock-knock-
"Come in."
It's the Master's voice.
I cautiously opened the door and peeked inside, where I found people sitting around a circular table.
"I, I see you're in a meeting... I'll just go and come back later..."
"It's fine, come in."
"Okay..."
I opened the door and entered the office with Levinas.
The eyes of those in the meeting fixed on Levinas and me.
The Master's gaze went to the broom in my hand.
"Why did you bring a broom?"
"I, cleaning..."
I awkwardly swept the broom across the floor, imitating a cleaning person while gauging the Master's reaction.
"Cleaning?"
"Yes, I was going to clean, but it seems I came for no reason..."
"No, you came at the right time."
Saying so, the Master offered the snacks laid out on the table to Levinas and me.
I was a bit embarrassed to take all the snacks meant for the meeting attendees.
"These are for the people in the meeting..."
"It's fine. We put them out for ambiance, but nobody really eats them. We end up throwing them away after the meeting, so you might as well take them."
The Master glanced at the people in the meeting room, who nodded in agreement, indicating it was okay.
These weren't people I usually saw around the guild, clearly visitors from outside.
"Wow! Snacks!"
Levinas jumped up excitedly next to the Master, already clutching a snack in each hand.
Since the Master had given permission, I decided to let Levinas enjoy herself.
"Mas-"
I started to call out to the Master but then clamped my mouth shut.
He had clearly told me to call him "uncle" last time.
It was quite unusual, but it was what the Master had requested.
I couldn't possibly refuse.
"Uncle..."
The moment I called the Master "uncle," everyone in the meeting room flinched.
Their eyes were all on me, filled with surprise.
"Uncle...?"
Their expressions of shock and confusion were directed at me.
That's when I realized I had made a mistake.
"Ah..."
Calling him "uncle" was indeed inappropriate.
Especially since he's the Guild Master of the strongest guild.
I'm doomed.
What do I do now?
I froze in place, my hands over my mouth.
