Chapter 12 - Finally A Break!

Chapter 12 - Finally, a Break!

Who were the gods of this world? Mentally, Colton went over what he remembered. "Ah! Snarva, a chaos god!" He shook his head. "I just remembered what their name was." Colton sighed when Kellen jolted at his exclamation.

Kellen's face whitened. "Yeah, I just recalled them, too." That's when he remembered the name of the creatures: "Snarwhallian hybrids, a chaos entity created them, Snarva, who ruled over the waters."

There were so many things wrong with this situation they'd found themselves in that it wasn't funny. Not only that, but it was very apparent that something was going wrong with the scenarios from the beginning, whether the books or the games.

The two of them looked at each other in consternation. "Wait a moment," They muttered simultaneously.

Game? Whoa, whoa, wait a second. Now, everything was beginning to click into place. Are all of the discrepancies stemming from that possibility? Oh yeah, Kellen knew where the confusion was stemming from, and it pissed him off.

Kellen hissed beneath his breath. "You know what, I think some higher entities got involved with this." He was tapping his fingers along his thigh as he recalled some things beginning to mesh in his brain.

Colton frowned in bafflement. "Okay, what brought that on?" Now, he was confused as all hell.

Kellen began explaining what was going through his mind. "Now that I think about it," a sigh escaped him as he shivered uneasily. "This is beginning to resemble the world we left behind." Unlike that world, this one was filled with fantasy, labyrinths, mazes divided into stages, and a few weird scenarios that didn't fit the book's description.

The others simply shook their heads. "Maybe you should ponder other options, alien," the elder advised. such as finding another species to merge with instead of ours." There was sorrow in his gaze. "I fear we're not going to live for much longer." With those parting words, the elder shepherded the remainder of the swimming creatures to seek out the other troubling noises and scents, which became more loathsome with each passing minute.

The speaker watched them depart. "So much for making a difference here in this world of mine." He laughed harshly. "What am I but another minuscule speck in the cosmos?" He sighed heavily. What a mess this had all become. Just because he hadn't agreed with those stupid game app creators. He fumed. They'd literally taken everything away from him, including his identity. Now, he had no memory of where he'd come from, much less how to escape from the world he'd created.

All the pieces began falling into place, but not as either would've liked them to. Colton remembered what he'd read on the web. "I heard rumors about the crappy way the app makers just dumped the information into it wherever the areas needed filling," he shook his head. "I never played it because I was always assigned some project that kept me from playing games on the phone or laptop." Instead, he'd just read the books and the guides when they came out.

Kellen grunted because he didn't like where he saw this situation heading. "I did play the game." He had a peculiar expression on his face. "I'm beginning to remember parts now that you've told me there were books and guides that provided the background." He rubbed his jaw. "However, the problem is, I think we're here before the main parts of the game and books begin."

Colton nodded. "I'm beginning to think that as well. I just don't know where we are on the timeline." If he knew that, he could piece together the events more thoroughly. Colton figured that if he could meditate, he might start being able to recall the extensive amount of information needed to keep afloat, literally in this case.

"I'll keep rowing." Kellen merely nodded before he inquired. "Oh, what were their official names other than some kind of whale shark human hybridized species?"

Colton blinked. "I dunno, I never found mention of them." He frowned and pondered the problem because it aggravated him now that he couldn't remember the particulars. "Though there might've been a portion in the prologue." What he was recalling made his stomach sink with consternation. "I think I remember reading some part making mention of some creatures going extinct."

Kellen looked at him in dismay. "Extinct how?" He was looking to the sky as he inquired.

Colton shrugged when answering. "Something along the lines that an ocean perished due to an apocalyptic event."

Kellen sighed. "I should've known it would be an apocalyptic event after all."

Colton nodded. "Yes, there is one that triggers other chapters of extremist survival challenges." He shivered uneasily. "I don't know if that translated to the game."

Well, whatever the case may be. Kellen and Colton hope that some of the information is still viable.

Now, all I can do is rely on at least two people who'll either make or break this world that has been plunged into complete obliteration because of those annoying freaks. He shook his head. There was no helping it. Either he conformed to this world or figured out a way to break free of the restraints tethering him to the waters. However, conforming to societal modes went against the grain of his very being. Had he done so in the other world, he would've become an entirely different person.

Well, when would that hurt anyone when he thought about it. No matter what happened, he would have to act fast. Time was of the essence, and now it was rapidly running out for him. He knew something was wrong with his body because he was beginning to suffocate and lose the ability to breathe. No! He wasn't going to go through another attack just because he wasn't part of this lifeform. He would find another way. He just had to calm down and think. What were the most basic tenets that he'd programmed into the genes of every species in Survival to the Purgatory Waystation?
