Later that day, Catherine had returned home and now once again, she found herself sitting awkwardly at the dinner table with William, the food dying in her mouth as she chewed.
"What kind of dirty stunt were you trying to pull earlier today?" William asked casually, but with fumes in his eyes.
"Wh... What are you talking about?" Catherine stuttered, barely containing the new arising tension.
"Running off on our way home after the meeting? What was that Catherine?"
"William, I didn't want to drive home with you, I don't see anything wrong with that." She lowered her gaze, trying as much as possible to focus on the food.
William's fist annoyingly slammed against the table making Catherine flinched at his actions and her eyes grew wide as she raised her gaze to him.
"What did I tell you on the day of that wedding?!" William asked furiously.
"William, I didn't want to drive home with you..." Catherine argued.
"You still don't understand what I'm saying huh? Don't you know that running off like that will attract unwanted questions? I will pity you this time and I'll warn you once more, don't ever do such a thing again. I will not take it likely if you smear my reputation. That's very important to me." William warned as he stood up and pushed his chair backwards and excused himself.
Catherine was still seated, frozen at his words with a bolus of food in her mouth inflating her cheeks. She swallowed, then exhaled sharply and shook her head. That's it, she keeps reminding herself that this was how her life was going to be henceforth. 'I had better get used to his shit!' she muttered to herself, even as the tears wanted to fall.
That night, she made sure to avoid him, including sleeping on the same bed with the duvet widely bridging them. She avoided it. She took her pillow and went to sleep in the visitor's room. It was safer that way, safer not to attract his authoritative voice again.
As she forced her eyes to get some sleep, the thought of his plan with Dunlop echoed in her mind. She was going to find out their plan. She would make sure of it.
The next morning, Catherine had no other option than to return to the bedroom to take a shower and get dressed. Gratefully, William was not in the room, so she hurried to the bathroom to get a quick shower.
Minutes later, Catherine got out of the shower in her towel, one wrapped around her body and the other she used to clean her hair, and there William was now seated on the bed with his suit laying next to his side.
"Good morning," Catherine greeted, trying to appear calm.
Williams only scoffed at her, then bent over trying to knot his shoe laces when he noticed Catherine walk right past him. He raised his gaze at her, and there his eyes fell on her legs. He couldn't help but notice her straight fair legs, her skin looked smooth and shiny, and her...come on what was he staring at? He coursed at himself.
He cleared his throat and turned away from her. "Don't keep me waiting today Catherine. Hurry up." He blurted and made his way to the the living room.
After some minutes, Catherine descended the stairs with one hand against the stair railing and the other holding a bag. She walked towards the exit door, to check if William had already gone without her, not knowing that he was at the living room staring at her. Her aura perceived sophisticated from where she was standing.
In a beautiful beige colored office dress that couldn't help but reveal her curvaceous nature, and once again, William ceased his gaze on her. Why? Why was he staring quite often now? He gritted his teeth and turned away now.
"Let's go," His voice came out low, not like how he wanted it. He sighed. Catherine nodded and just followed.
The drive to the office was as awkward as the drive back home on their wedding day. They both sat facing the window and maintaining a really good distance from each other.
Right there and then, the only thoughts that were running through her mind was how to get into William's office to go through those damn documents.
Finally, the car came to a stop and they both came out of the car. As much as it was hard for both of them, it was a necessity for them to hold each other's hands as they walked into the company.
William's expressionless face immediately transformed into a smiley face and yes everyone was starring at the newly married couple. As they walked through the hallways and into the elevator, William whispered to Catherine, "Put a smile on that face. Don't piss me off."
Catherine turned to him and when the elevator doors opened she forced a smile on her face. As they got out of the elevator, they saw William's assistant Jorge walking towards them with a pad in his hand.
"Welcome sir, welcome Ma'am." He greeted with a slight bow.
"Please I'll take my leave now to my office." Catherine whispered to William.
"Okay." He responded. She was about walking away when she felt a grip and the next thing, he grabbed her, pulling her in closer to him.
Catherine's heart began to pound. "Williams," She whispered.
"Stay still," He whispered, with a clear warning.
Catherine gulped hard as his gaze lowered on her and... he planted a soft kiss on her cheek and then on her lips. "See you later." He said flashing a smile at her and then at Jorge.
Catherine stood stunned at his actions especially since she wasn't expecting that kiss. As fast as it came, it made her cheeks tingle, her heart racing and her cheeks burning.
She turned to look at Jorge who was grinning widely.
"What are you waiting for wife? You can proceed to your office. Or do you want more kisses?" Catherine swore her breath cut at Williams daunting question as her gaze fell on his taunting gaze on her.
