In the dim, bluish glow of the room, a soft hiss broke the silence. The stasis pod holding Wally began to open at Alfred's command. The AI had already completed its scans, confirming that his bodily functions were stable.
A few seconds passed after the pod fully opened, and Wally's eyes snapped open. Yet, he didn't move. Instead, he lay there, his gaze fixed on the void above. His mind was racing, sorting through the chaos of his thoughts.
With slow, measured breaths, he reined in the storm within. His mental processes slowed, though they still operated at speeds far beyond normal comprehension.
Curiosity gnawed at him. Shifting his focus inward, he turned his attention to his future sight. Now that his cognitive capabilities had been enhanced, he wondered if its limits had shifted.
Previously, his future sight allowed him to glimpse events five to ten seconds ahead. As the familiar feeling surged within him, his eyes sparked with blue lightning, and fragmented visions flashed through his mind. He almost sighed in disappointment—the maximum range had only increased by five seconds, capping at fifteen.
But as he allowed the flow of visions to continue, something else became apparent. The sheer number of possibilities he could perceive had multiplied. What had once been hundreds of potential outcomes had expanded into the thousands.
Though subtle, this improvement was significant. Greater possibilities meant fewer errors in his decisions—a decisive advantage when viewed in the right context.
Beyond that, Wally noticed another change: his speed of thought had increased. However, the extent of the enhancement eluded precise calculation.
Wally smiled at his achievement, but his thoughts soon shifted to the ideas that had taken root during the enhancement process. Among the multitude of insights, the ones that stood out revolved around the concept of gaining power.
His focus, unsurprisingly, landed on magic. In the Arrowverse, only a handful of individuals had been shown to tap into magical forces, but from Wally's perspective, their methods seemed crude and incomplete.
The magic they showcased amounted to little more than lackluster telekinesis and a scattering of minor tricks. It lacked the depth and grandeur he expected, making it less appealing—at least on the surface.
Even so, Wally understood some crucial truths about magic, even if his knowledge was limited.
The first was its source. In the broader DC universe, magic often stemmed from the God Sphere. However, in the Arrowverse, it was said to flow from something called leylines—vast networks of mystical energy coursing through the universe. Earth itself had its own leyline system, a reservoir of magical power.
Most practitioners accessed magic by drawing from these leylines or by wielding artifacts that allowed them to access leylines. However, Wally recalled one notable exception: John Constantine. Constantine was unique in his ability to wield magic without reliance on such restrictions.
Still, Wally couldn't help but wonder: now that this world had become real, would the rules remain the same? Or had they shifted?
For now, there was barely any way to begin research. It would have to be put on hold. For now, he instructed Alfred to continue his research to further advance their current technology. The tech they were particularly focused on involved the safety of the pocket dimension—one where even beings of unimaginable power would be unable to access.
Exiting the dimension, Wally noted that it was already the next day. Anticipating the time his body might need to adapt, he had messaged Joe in advance. Now, he made his way to S.T.A.R. Labs.
As he entered the Cortex, he found Pietro animatedly explaining to the others how his sister had discovered his powers. Most of Team Flash didn't dwell on this revelation. What caught their attention was the fact that Pietro's sister also had powers.
"Perhaps we could invite her to S.T.A.R. Labs," Barry suggested. "We might help her master her abilities and learn more about what she's capable of."
Pietro quickly shook his head. "My sister is usually very busy. She won't have the time," he said, though he seemed lost in thought for a moment after.
At that point, Wally entered the room, drawing greetings and curious glances. He acknowledged them briefly, his gaze flicking to Pietro as an idea surfaced: perhaps he could offer Pietro's sister, Amanda, a position as his secretary. For now, however, he shelved the thought.
Elsewhere, Alfred had already begun traveling across the cosmos using the star map from the Dominators. He had located several habitable planets, and droids of various kinds had been dispatched to harvest resources. Whether it was asteroids or planetary bodies, anything rich in resources was fair game—provided the planet was uninhabited.
With wormholes now freely opened using specialized coordinates, it was only a matter of time before their resource stockpiles grew exponentially.
Back in the Cortex, the conversation soon wound down, but not before Cisco proposed a race. He suggested it take place the next day, mentioning he was busy with a project he was close to completing. He glanced at Wally knowingly, leaving a hint of mystery for the others.
Afterward, Wally, Barry, and Pietro headed to the Speed Lab for their regular training session.
"Guys, I think it's too early for me to start this Speed Force sensing stuff. I should probably start from the basics," Pietro admitted, frustrated by his lack of progress after countless attempts.
"If that's the case, Barry's the best teacher for you," Wally quickly suggested, deflecting the responsibility to Barry, who glared at him in return. Wally's remark derailed Barry's plan to focus on his own training, leaving him momentarily disgruntled.
Noticing Barry's suppressed displeasure, Wally rolled his eyes. "You never know—unexpected events might lead to unexpected growth," he quipped before stepping back.
As Barry began explaining the next exercise to Pietro, Wally decided to make a quick detour. He wandered down to the S.T.A.R. Labs museum, which was thriving more than ever. Visitor numbers were steadily increasing, keeping H.R. particularly busy with tours and presentations.
On his way back, Wally grabbed a cup of coffee and encountered Caitlin in the hallway. Just as he greeted her and prepared to return to the Speed Lab, she stopped him.
"Wally, I need your help with something," Caitlin said, her tone serious enough to catch his attention.
He already knew what it was but decided to play along. He quickly followed her to the med bay, where she began to explain what she needed from him.
"What is it that you need?" he asked, feigning confusion.
"I need your help getting rid of my powers," she said, looking at him with hope and expectation. With the serum he had created, which was beyond anything she'd witnessed, her confidence in Wally was higher than even Julian.
"Are you sure?" he asked, hoping she could try to cooperate with Frost as in the original timeline, though that was still far away. Either way, if that was what she wanted, he would gladly assist her with it.
She nodded after a few seconds. "If that's what you want, I'm glad to help."
Meanwhile, back in the Speed Lab, Barry had gathered his thoughts and decided to teach Pietro how to phase—a foundational speedster ability. Cisco had set up a specialized training board in the center of the room, designed to help speedsters practice precision and focus.
Barry stood in front of the board while Pietro watched from the side, his excitement and anticipation evident.
"Make sure to focus," Barry began, his tone calm and firm.
"Yes," Pietro muttered, his eyes fixed on Barry, absorbing every word and movement with intense focus.
As they prepared to start, Barry glanced at the dampeners on his wrists. He hesitated, his hand hovering over one of the devices, but after a moment of deliberation, he decided to leave them on. Shaking off the distraction, he turned his attention back to Pietro.
"Breathe," Barry instructed, his voice calm and measured as he closed his eyes. The command was as much for himself as it was for Pietro. "Feel the floor beneath your feet."
"Feel the air. Feel the wind on your face. Feel the lightning."
At those words, a shift seemed to take place. Both Barry and Pietro fell into a trance-like state, the world around them fading into the background.
"Feel its electricity coursing through your veins," Barry continued, his tone low and steady. "Let it travel to every nerve in your body like a shock. You're no longer just you—you're part of something greater. Part of the Speed Force."
For Barry, everything went eerily quiet in that moment. His focus sharpened to an extraordinary level, and the Speed Force within him reignited. Energy surged through his body, converging in his hands. Slowly, his hands began to vibrate at the exact frequency of air molecules.
With precision, he pushed his hand forward, and it phased seamlessly through the board in front of him, reappearing on the other side untouched and undeterred.
Pietro, however, didn't fare as well. His attempts to phase through the board fell flat—his hands merely thudded against the surface. Despite his effort, progress seemed a distant goal.
