My name is Astaro, I don't have any last name since I am an orphan boy, I grew up in a town near Mexico City, right now I am 10 years old, I work growing vegetables and then sell them in the market in Mexico City.
I currently live with Mrs. Sofia and my brother Asterio, who like me is an orphan boy, only his attitude is the opposite of mine, I sincerely consider myself a serious and anti-social boy, while my brother is a very empathetic and sociable person. Normally I am in charge of harvesting the crops and he leaves the village to sell them together with Mrs. Sofia.
Mrs. Sofia is a 17-year-old girl, she was the one who found me and Asterio, she picked us up 2 years ago near the road, we hadn't eaten for 5 days, the little food we found was literally our only meal, unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to get more.
From then on, we find ourselves living in a house of only two rooms, the house is divided into a single bedroom and kitchen.
"What are you doing lying there?" Sofia asked me.
"Resting," I replied without further ado.
"I see, you're really hardworking Astaro," he flattered me as he sat down on my right side.
Mrs. Sofia would occasionally come to see if I was okay, as she was worried that I would hurt myself, according to her this job is not appropriate for a 10-year-old boy, but I didn't care, after all I do it for their sake and also in gratitude.
"It's nothing, I just do my job, Mrs. Sofia," I replied happily.
"I'm only 17 years old. I'm not a lady, heavens! You make me feel bad," she exclaimed angrily.
"I'm sorry, but I think it's a way of showing my respects to you.
"You know you can call me Sofia, just like your brother does," I urge myself happily.
It's true, my brother talks to her with a confidence as if he had known her for years, well I think it's part of being social, unlike me who likes to show respect, to a person to whom I am grateful and value a lot.
He seems to watch me carefully as I rest on the comfortable lawn of the orchard, the breeze here is very relaxing and refreshing, after seeing me for a few seconds he lay down next to me while watching the clouds.
"The sunset is very beautiful, isn't it?" He said, looking at the red sky.
"Yes, it's beautiful," I answered, admiring the landscape.
We spent a long time observing the sky, until finally nightfall, where we proceeded to enter the house, there was Asterio who when he saw Mrs. Sofia threw himself into his arms.
"Sofia!" he cried happily.
"Hello Asterio, what are you doing?"
—I was reviewing the day's sales. Today we sold a lot! he exclaimed as he took out a notebook with notes.
What my brother said was true, today we sold more than usual, this would be considered good luck? or perhaps some sick person just wanted to impress Sofia by buying a large amount of vegetables to woo her.
Well, I wouldn't blame them, Mrs. Sofia was very beautiful both her face and her feelings. She's a woman of average height something like 1.65 maybe? with brown eyes and brown hair, but I think what attracts the most attention is her body.
"Even to me, she looks like a grown woman, she has a huge bust in addition to a small waist, as for her butt well, I think it's in normal standards, if we talk numerically, I think it would be 88-65-80," I thought while looking her up and down.
My gaze was lost looking at her butt, while thinking about the above.
"Hey! he cried sharply.
"What's wrong?" I shouted excitedly.
"Apparently he noticed that I was looking at his butt," I thought.
"Children shouldn't do those things," he scolded me mockingly.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I ignored his scolding, as I went to sleep.
○●○●○
Two weeks passed after the wonderful sales of that day, well now it was the opposite, recently sales dropped by almost 90% for some unknown reason.
According to what Asterio told me, this was caused by a stall that was placed right in front of ours, this one had more variety than ours, well it should be said that when we collected the crops we separated them in cardboard boxes, which Asterio and Mrs. Sofia take to sell.
The main crops we had were carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, lettuce and onions.
They sold very well, of course until that stall arrived with a great variety and not only vegetables but also fruits, they also had a more detailed stall than ours, well they were going to compete with some cardboard boxes with large tables full of a lot of vegetables and fruits.
"If I were a buyer, I would definitely buy there too," I thought.
"Well, the best thing would be to try harder from now on, don't you think Astaro?" He urged me to make an effort with a smile.
"I think it's the most convenient thing to do, brother, but what will we do to increase our sales?" I asked, looking for an answer to our problem.
"Mmmm, that's still a mystery," he replied without further ado, disappointing me a little.
While we were planning how to increase our sales, a ball hit Asterio's head, this caused my anger, maybe it was an accident and they were not to blame, but I think it was still annoying that they hit you with the ball! In the middle of a serious conversation.
I was going to confront the person who had hit my brother when suddenly a hand grabbed my shoulder, this was my brother who apparently told me "calm down, it's not that bad" with that typical smile of his.
"But," I tried to object, but he insisted on standing still.
He began to run towards where the ball was, while those guilty of having hit Asterio came for his ball.
"Sorry, friend, it really wasn't our intention," the boy apologized.
"Why do you say that, child!" Does the ball have a will of its own or what? I thought irritably.
He watched them carefully, while Asterio came with the ball in his arms, kindly offering to give them to them while laughing at what had happened. By the way, the people who came towards us were 3 boys and a girl, apparently she was a little shy, the boys had nothing special they just seemed to be bigger than us, but the girl seemed to be between 8 or 9 years old.
"Why does he seem to look at Asterius as if he were a deity?" I thought.
When she realizes that I am looking at her she suddenly gets behind the tallest boy in the group, maybe it is her brother, anyway, after that everyone except a certain person (me) began to laugh as they left.
The girl seems to have been hypnotized by Asterio, since even walking to the opposite side of where we are, she did not stop seeing my brother.
"Is it that she is in love with him?" I thought, looking for an answer to his gaze.
"Hey, brother," I spoke to him.
"What's wrong with Astaro?"
"Really, don't I make you angry?" I asked, looking at him carefully, looking for a possible sign that he was lying.
"Mmmm, I really think it was an accident, so I don't see why I really have any hard feelings," he replied wisely, or at least that's how it seemed to be.
"I see, but I think you're very soft sometimes, you know?" I exclaimed, a little annoyed.
"Hehe, do you think?" He replied laughing.
He's very kind, even when he's involved in a situation like this, if I had been in his place I definitely would have thrown myself into those guys, although to be honest they didn't look bad, but nobody can take the ball away from him.
After that small accident we went to our house, running into a boy who was holding a huge bouquet of flowers.
"I know this boy," she thought as she looked at him.
He is the son of the town commissioner, something like a mayor let's say, he has been behind Mrs. Sofia for a while now, what I think about him is that maybe you can see that he is a good guy, but the other day I saw him kissing Mrs. Maria's daughter, the owner of the store where we bought food.
"He asked me if he has a lot of girls waiting for him at the altar Hehehehe," I laughed in my thoughts.
"Hey, brats, have you seen Sofia?" He asked us arrogantly and superiorly.
We didn't answer anything and just kept walking.
"Hey! Answer what you're being asked, brat! he shouted furiously.
"There he is, that's what hides his façade of a handsome boy, a macho and selfish guy," I thought, holding back my anger.
I take my arm squeezing me back, what should I do? I see my brother out of the corner of my eye, who was just watching, waiting for some exaggerated movement to intervene.
"Tell me, this Sofia yes or no!" He shouted as he spat in my face.
I fell silent again.
"Damn brat!" He slapped my face, making me fall to the floor, causing my nose to bleed.
"Okay brother, I'll definitely kick his ass," I thought, as I began to get angry.
I look at Asterio again.
"Can I?" I whisper the question on the verge of losing my temper.
Asterio nodded as he headed home.
"Okay, now I can do what I think is right," I exclaimed, relieved in my thoughts.
The guy looked like an idiot just standing around watching me, suddenly I punched him in the face and then hit his right leg, causing him to lose his balance, after that I enjoyed hitting his nose hard.
"Haaa, how good it feels to kick the ass of a believing child," I thought.
If you are wondering why a 10-year-old boy knows how to fight so well? Well, it helped me to live alone on the street almost since I was born, although I don't usually do it very often because my brother stops me, of course sometimes he leaves it to my discretion to react like that, just as I do right now.
I walked past the boy while holding his nose, which was indeed bleeding, I took the flowers that had fallen to the ground and then threw them in his face and while he was there, spit on him.
"Mrs. Sofia doesn't need a selfish womanizer like you, so get lost," I cried arrogantly, as he did with us.
"Hahahaha, in your face, idiot!" How does it feel to have an 10-year-old brat kick an 18-year-old's ass? I thought as I rejoiced.
Leaving the boy on the floor I went home, I went in and closed the door, I think Mrs. Sofia is not there, she must have gone to Mrs. Maria's store to buy food.
"Hehe, I think you went a little too far," Asterio laughed nervously.
"Oh come on, it was only two blows to the face, how much damage could I have done to him?" I thought.
"Well, I think I only gave him what he deserved," I replied proudly of my act.
"Well, in a way you're right," he replied with a sigh.
After that we decided to call it a day, although I think I should have hit him a little more.
2 hours passed after what happened with the son of the commissioner, Mrs. Sofia returned from the store bringing with her bags full of food, inside the bag she carried chips, tuna, soups and one or two other things. He stared at me and then grimaced in annoyance.
"Is she angry with me?" I thought nervously
"I think Mario met her when he was returning from the store, and there he complained," Asterio mentioned his guess.
"Well, if that's the case, I think he's a crying child," I scoffed.
Asterio gave me a slap after having said the above, it is a way of telling me that I must be more considerate with people, after having done that he went to help Mrs. Sofia to place the food in its respective place.
"Hey Asaro," the one who called me was Mrs. Sofia, who made a sign with her hand urging me to follow her, I must admit that I got a little nervous.
"Don't worry, I'll just talk to you, just bow my head and nod to everything I say," as my brother always advises me at any time.
"He definitely has an angry face, I'm sure he'll reprimand me after I've hit that boy," I thought.
We stopped just after we had closed the door of the house, she looked at me with an expressionless face, to tell the truth, I don't know what will happen, but if she reprimands me I will take it as a thank you, after all she does not deserve to be with that kind of people and even she herself knows it.
"Astaro you hit Mario, right?" He asked without further ado what I was expecting.
"Yes, I'll hit him," after saying that he slapped me hard, then hugged me.
"Idiot, I could have hurt you... "Snif, snif," she sobbed as she hugged me.
Why does she get like this? Isn 't she upset with me? After staying like this for a few seconds, she let go of me, wiping away tears.
"It really bothers me to see her like this, I feel a little guilty, just a little," I thought.
She is usually cheerful, seeing her like this is a bit painful, and even more so if I have something to do with it, maybe if I had thought things through and just ignored it, maybe she wouldn't have gotten like that.
"No, that idiot deserved it," I thought
"You know when he told me you hit him, I didn't quite believe him," she said, wiping away tears.
"Really?" I thought you knew me better," I thought, very disappointed.
"In fact, I thought he was drunk, I thought, such a cute boy couldn't have broken Mario's nose, but then I thought, God! "If it's Astaro, that boy is like a coin in the air," he said cheerfully.
"Well, at least, she looks happier now than she did a while ago," I thought relieved.
"Besides, I had already rejected him several times, why is he still stubborn in winning my heart?" she exclaimed in disgust.
"Oh I don't know, maybe I just want to, you know, do the cuchi, cuchi," I thought as I tried not to laugh.
"Besides, there's someone in my heart already," he said this while looking up at the starry sky.
Has he really found someone yet? Well, I guess I should congratulate her, right? It's normal, I approached her, she was taller than me, but in a couple of years I'll be taller than her, or so I think. I stood at his shoulder height and said.
"Congratulations," she stared at me in surprise, and then laughed.
"What's wrong?" Did I say something funny? I thought.
"Excuse me, I didn't expect you to say something like that.
—Since when did congratulating someone for having a partner become so funny? I thought.
"Well, I thought it was normal to congratulate someone who found their better half, don't you think?" I asked, still confused by his reaction.
"Well, in a way you're right, I'm sorry for making fun of me," he apologized.
I'm curious to know, what kind of boy Mrs. Sofia likes, will it be that she likes sweet and affectionate boys or maybe cold and serious ones.
Well, whatever your taste is, I hope it goes well and that you are very happy. He turned his face again with a serious expression, maybe he can't be with him because of us, the fact of taking care of us takes away his time to go out with his partner, although now that I think about it... I've never seen her with anyone else besides us.
"Although unfortunately we can't be together yet," he exclaimed sadly.
"I knew it," I thought.
"He and I are different, although despite being a quiet and kind girl, I like rough and strong men," she spoke with emotion while she had a happy face.
"Oh I see, you're basically one of those girls who like to be rescued by a prince charming, a curious fact I didn't know about her," I thought as I asked a question.
"I see, and what's his name?"
"Ehhh... don't tell me that you are jealous Astaro? He said mockingly.
"Me, jealous?" Why should it be? I thought, as I tried to find the answer to why the question.
"No, it's just curiosity, but if you don't want to tell me anything, I won't force you," I turned around to enter the house.
After that conversation, I can assume that she is not mad at me, she just cared about me, I must admit that I am glad to hear that, it feels good to know that someone cares about your well-being.
—Hon…
"Did you say anything?" I exclaimed, thinking I had heard something.
"Go to sleep," he said, pointing to our house.
"Oh! It's true, it's too late, I thought
"Well, I'm going to bed.
"Yes, good evening.
On the way to my bed I bumped into my brother, who looked at me with a somewhat strange smile, he seemed to be insinuating something.
"I'm sorry brother, I don't have time for your jokes, so I'm leaving," I thought as I went to bed, and then went into a deep sleep.
