REAL MATTIE

Mattie slipped silently through the hospital corridors, her footsteps muffled by the soft beeping of machines and the hushed whispers of nurses she looked around hoping no one saw her.

She wore a crisp white mask over her face, and her eyes covered in her glasses.

As she approached Stephan's ward, she slowed her pace, her eyes scanning the room hoping she wasn't caught.

The curtains were partially drawn, casting a dim glow over the space. Stephan lay motionless in his bed, his chest rising and falling with slow, steady breaths.

Mattie's eyes narrowed as she crept closer to Stephan's bedside. Her hatred for him seemed to pulse through her veins like a dark, viscous liquid.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small syringe, the needle glinting in the faint light.
