Location

Without a second thought, Jean circled around Marr's dead body and approached the gadget. He then stared at it to confirm his suspicion, and just as he expected, it was a cell-phone.

He then heaved a heavy sigh before gently lowering himself. For a few seconds, he stared at the ringing cell-phone without doing anything. But the moment the thought of Marr's peers heading where he was, dawned on him, he quickly scanned the surroundings before grabbing the ringing cell-phone.

The moment he picked it from the ground, he quickly brought it closer to his face and studied the screen with curious eyes.

Right at the top of the screen, the caller's name was visible in bold, and it read: "My Son."

'So, he had a family? What a pity, but it was just an accident. If I could have died in place of him, what could my mom – My only family felt… As if I am even that safe. I am not sure if I am going to survive the unknown danger that lies ahead of me. Let me just hope for the best, though the chances are slim, perhaps that way, luck might come my way.'

Jean knew very well that if he stayed long in the area, he would subject himself to two different dangers. The first one was from Marr's accomplices and the second was from the unknown adversaries that the area harboured.

So, there was no way he was going to waste time by standing in one place. He needed to utilise the remaining time by moving towards the forest.

As the cell-phone was still ringing, Jean took a few seconds to brainstorm on his next move and the appropriate steps that he was supposed to take.

'There's no way I am going to receive this call. It might land me to trouble only if… the call is tracked the moment Marr's family get the information about the incident on the plane. Who knows, they might have already gotten the info and it is just them trying their best to trace his whereabouts.'

Jean might have been right with his guesses and if he was right, then the decision he took of not receiving the phone could have been the perfect one. By doing so, he was sure of delaying the process of Marr's accomplices getting to where they were before he could get out of the area.

And from the condition he was in, he really needed extra time if he was to escape from this place before his current adversaries could get to him.

'First I need to trace my location before I could call my mom or Axel – My friend. Then after I have talked to them, I should look for a better place in the forest to rest.'

During this moment, Jean's mind was running on all cylinders, he was busy figuring out the best decision and actions that would guarantee his survival.

Although his body was weary and aching with a few minor scars here and there, there was no way he was going to allow himself to die in an unknown place like a stray dog.

Just as he was still contemplating on the matter, the ringing sound died down. Almost immediately, he subconsciously shifted his gaze and stared at the screen of the cell-phone.

This was the moment his sight caught something.

On the screen, there was a screen saver of an image of a white dog of unknown breed. The dog looked lovely and it was lying on a carpet of lawns that spread in all directions from the spot that it lied.

In simple terms, the image was extremely attractive.

Although his gaze caught the sight of the dog, that was not what attracted his attention. What really attracted his attention was the time that was displayed right in the middle of the screen.

The time read "04:55PM"

Jean stared at the screen with wide eyes as he tried estimating the total time that had passed since he was last in Kili city before the kidnapping incident occurred.

According to his estimation, the whole journey since he was kidnapped, had taken more than four hours. He remembered very well noticing the city clock in the streets reading 12:27AM a few minutes before his kidnap.

This sudden realization snapped him out of his reverie. In a matter of a few seconds, he felt the urgency of leaving the area. This was because, basing on his estimation, there were higher chances that he had been transported far away from his home town, or even to a different country. And this was what startled him the most.

'Even if I manage to trace my current location, how am I going to get home, considering that my mom's financial status is quite horrible? It would be difficult for her to raise the fare for me to travel back home.'

Jean thought with a grim expression.

Finding the cell-phone, was a step closer to tracing his whereabout, but getting back to Kili city was another huddle in waiting.

In an instance, Jean felt helpless, but a few seconds later, a thought ignited in his mind that initiated a smile on his bloody pale face.

'The first thing to do is; tracing my current location.'

Jean thought to himself before swiping the screen of the cell-phone that was resting in his hands.

Immediately his finger swiped across the screen, his smile melted away and it was replaced by a frown.

'Damn it!'

Staring at the screen with a confused look, Jean gently scratched the sides of his cheek out of frustration.

After lingering for a few minutes, he shifted his gaze and looked at Marr's dead body barely a meter away from where he was standing.

In the next moment, he sighed and approached the body.

Immediately he swiped the screen of the cell-phone a moment ago, a prompt popped on the screen requesting for a password. This came as a surprise to Jean because he didn't expect the cell-phone to have a protective measure in place. This act of him could be considered as ignorant, but who could blame him for this.

while staying with his mom, in Kili city, he never had the chance to operate an advanced cell-phone like the one that was currently resting in his hands. This was because his mom couldn't afford one.

It was until he met Axel and befriended him, after which he got the chance to interact with Axel's cell-phone that had advanced features just as the cell-phone that he was holding this moment. And since Axel had not set a password for his cell-phone, Jean never had the chance to know that such security measures existed.

But now that he had encountered one, he had to figure out a solution.

Not believing what his sight had caught, Jean was forced to re-read the prompt once again, just to confirm that he wasn't seeing things.

This was the moment that he discovered that the prompt was requesting for a finger print password. This request didn't sink well in Jean's head, so, he took a few moments to digest the information before he could take the appropriate action.

'Finger print password! How is that inputted?'

Jean thought with a confused expression.

He knew what a finger print was, but what he didn't know was how it was supposed to be used as password.

After a few moments of contemplation, Jean decided to study the cell-phone in his hands, in order to see if he could be able to spot a clue of a solution to his current problem. In the process of fidgeting the cell-phone, he discovered that the cell-phone could display a warning message that the fingerprint is unmatched whenever he touched a certain spot at the back of the cell-phone.

'So, here is where the finger print should be inputted.'

Jean mused as he gently nodded his head.

Not long after, Jean approached Marr's body, lowered himself and grabbed one of his fingers and pressed it against the finger print scanner of the cell-phone.

In the next second, the cell-phone released a snapping sound, and in an instance, it was unlocked.

The moment Jean saw this, he smiled absentmindedly before he proceeded to confirm his current location. He immediately turned on the data which to his surprise, it worked. This implied two things.

First, that there was a possibility that Jean was still in Lent – His home country and second, the owner of the cell-phone might be residing in the country he was in in case he was not in his home country.

Hit by this realization, Jean's mind was clouded with ominous thoughts.

'If I am still in Lent, then it is good because it would be much easier for me to return home even if it was going to take some time. But it can also be bad because, these idiots might just succeed to trace me even if I make it home.

But the other one is the worst. If I am in a foreign country, then making it home is going to be difficult, considering that I don't have any acquaints out of Lent. And if the guy resides in this country, then there are also chances that his accomplice might succeed in tracing my whereabout, even if I get out of this area before they arrive.'

For a moment, Jean felt like his hopes of escaping were on the verge of crashing, but still, he clanged to his fragile hope.

Despite all this, Jean still steeled his mind and decided to confirm his current location. In the next second, he opened App-Map - A navigation app, and without hesitation, he started to track his current location.
