Chapter 4
Never would I have thought that I would wake up in the morning to open a freezer that should be in the blood bank with a dried-up corpse of my ex-roommate's boyfriend in front of me. Seriously, what did she do to have so many things happen in the course of two months? It doesn't make any sense, as her family were basically the closest thing to the ideal humans, even with their flaws. Isaiah wasn't my favorite person; he still is not even in the afterlife, but I could at least respect him for being able to ditch his family. I just hope his younger sisters don't find out about the news yet. Simone and Eva were rather fond of their brother, and they would have to deal with him being killed in a mysterious way. And I genuinely liked the two of them. Never thought I would like twins, especially the type that always knew what the other one was saying. Now back to the matter at hand. I just lost my peace of mind, lunch and free desert all in one visit that's a new record for level of gore I encountered during a case.
"Eugh!!"
I had my mouth thoroughly cleaned afterwards and smelt the fresh air outside the apartment. If my body parts could take, my nose and lungs would be singing praises of my name because I ended that torturous moment for us quickly. I would take the scent of smoke and toxic waste over that any day; still doesn't mean I will learn how to stand those foul scents either. Detective Jones had the freezer confiscated and for good reasons too. Luis was salty about it, as he didn't have the chance to truly check if the blood was animal or human. I gave him a quick glare as that wouldn't change the fact that Isaiah was dead, and I was partially traumatized by the entire event. Empathy is a needed skill, people, no matter what work you pick. Minus assassins and soldiers, their backgrounds don't exactly call for people skills most of the time. They are there to kill or capture you most of the time, so it's safe to accept your fate and make your demise a lot less painless for you. Luis seemed to lack it, because he had to work with dead people instead, so that might be the reason why he could be so dismissive of people at times. And Detective Jones judges my social skills, while Luis was busy trying to negotiate with our
Isaiah's standing corpse was carried off. Leah arrived a moment sooner, she looked rather excited until she saw his body. She fell down to the ground, clenching her fist in pure white rage, she could only hold onto all that anger before her walls would break down and the tears would spill down her cheeks. Luis noticed and nudged at me to comfort her; despite knowing how much I sucked at it. I was too blunt to say something remotely nice to anyone. He didn't care, placing me in front of her. When the redhead noticed me, she latched onto me like a leech that would dig in deeper into my skin if someone tried to remove her from me. I awkwardly caressed her hair, she quietly sobbed on my shoulders.
How was she able to physically break down in public? That I will never understand. I needed to go to my home, my bedroom, enter the bathroom and cry in the shower, because I am not that open with my own emotions. Emotions are rather strange to me, that's why I can be rather avoidant of them, including now as I try to comfort her. I softly caressed her hair, she leaned into it, as her sobs grew quiet the longer I did it. I was ready to speak up, but Luis dragged me by the hand. "Time to go, Bon." He didn't take a second to glance at Leah, as he pulled me away. I waved at her, tossing her the spare room of my home. The smile on her face was clear for everyone while she held onto the keys tightly. I suppose I should try comforting her more, as nobody should be left alone in a situation like this.
Leah was brought into question again, I was too. I was the first person that encountered the body in the first place with the fridge. My fingerprints were removed from the fridge during the forensic test I led, the remaining fingerprints on the fridge were Isaac's and some animals.
Odd.
I know.
But Isaac had a lot of animals he walked whenever he was off duty. He was too much of a goody two shoes for me to like him much, yet now he is dead with Luis having his fun with him, as he probably took his time to the pretty boy up with the bone saw in his use, while Leah would have found a way to snuck in and would be horrified by the sight. She wasn't one for blood after all, which was why she never tried visiting the station, while Luis was around, as he was always cutting someone up like a butcher. He was raised by one, so that would explain the expertise in knife wielding and cutting.
I stayed back in the lab, twirling the blood samples in my hand, as they had a weird texture to it. Blood was a liquid, very flexible in terms of movement like water, merely thicker in nature and red too. So why was the blood in my hands turning blue the moment the moon came into light? I would have taken notes, but the moment I decided to check the microscope for more.
"Miss Taylor?"
I flinched in response, glancing back to seeing a weary Detective Jones behind me at the entrance of the lab. He was silently scolding me for being up so late. "But Detective, I…." I tried to show him the blue blood, until I looked back and noticed that it looked normal.
"You need to sleep, Bon. I can't have you working without any fuel in your tank because of just one case." He left no room for rejection or convincing from my side, as he led me out and I had to go home. When I arrived, Leah was already there on the couch dozing off, I locked the door, bringing out a set of fresh blankets and covered her with it. Then I also retired to bed, too tired to even question if I saw was real or not.
