Not once in Lucian's life had he ever felt the excruciating pain of a weapon piercing through his flesh, but he was experiencing just that. He tried to use his powers or even transform into his beast form, but nothing seemed to work. Pain and rage coursed through him until he couldn't stand anymore.

His entire body felt like it was on fire and the blood flowing through his veins was lava. His vision was turning blurry, and just when he thought it was the end of the pain, another weapon pierced through his back and his legs finally gave way beneath him, and he fell face-first in front of his enemy.

She laughed at his weakness and grabbed a fistful of his hair, yanking his head up. "Diaval, I thought you said you added all the dosage in his wine last night. Why isn't he dying yet?" Elara asked the man-bird who flew down and transformed before her.
