Clarissa had everything ready for her evening. Her day had been completely ruined, especially after coming back from the hospital. She seemed like a new person with the frown that had plastered on her face and would not ease up no matter what her friends said or did.
"Hey, I'll be leaving now." She announced to her duo of friends. Eve had returned from her workplace and Sana was already preparing for her shift.
"Oh okay. I wish you good luck." Eve said cheerfully.
"Luck is not really needed, Eve. I'm getting that divorce whether luck wants it or not." Clarissa's frown deepened. It scared Eve that she kept her mouth shut immediately.
Before they knew it, Clarissa walked out. Eve and Sana exchanged a worried look.
"Damn it, I was even afraid of breathing!" Eve spewed.
"I just hope she'll be fine. I wished you followed her, Eve." Sana complained.
"Oh please, did she look like someone who needed any company?. Say I had an ounce of love for Jared, I would have felt pity for him now." Eve said.
"Same." Sana agreed. "I just hope she'll be fine. This is too much for her."
"Does she know she's going to be okay? I mean, she could quit that stupid job and start something new. Right? I'm more than willing to become one of her investors in whatever business she choses." Eve said.
Sana sighed. "She wants to sell cars. I've never met anyone like her before. That's her dream job. To sell cars, collect commissions, meet with customers out there and offer her knowledge of technology on how to impress customers more. Like a geeky thingy. For her Masters program, she bagged a degree in Research Engineering, remember? Like, why?"
"Why would you bag nursing though? I mean, public health nursing? What's that?" Eve rolled her eyes.
"Or you, literature in what? Writing? Novel fiction blah blah," Sana replied.

Jared tried so hard to ignore what Desdra was saying. He was so tired after that day's work that all he wanted was to eat and sleep off. He suddenly missed Clarissa's cooking now that he thought about it.
"...and now," she continued, "we don't even have to worry about money at all. I am working through a new plan, brother. So don't worry and continue to put your trust in me."
Jared snorted. "I work in a goddamn supermarket. I mean...Julian saw me there. God knows who else has seen me in that embarrassing uniform."
"So it's my fault?" Desdra frowned. "I don't care, okay? All I know is that I am trying to make our lives better now."
"Let me guess. There's a new rich dumb man? Or no. There's a new scapegoat at your workplace? Some innocent person who had crossed you?" Jared asked. Then he gasped. "Is it Clarissa? You better don't hurt her."
Desdra rolled her eyes. "Oh please. I have better things to do with my life than to fret over Rissa." She lied.
Jared gave her a careful glare before turning to leave. "I have some biscuits upstairs. That's my dinner, you sort yourself. I'm so tired I could pass out right now."
His phone rang and he saw a foreign number. "Hello?"
Clarissa's voice said from over the phone. "Jared, it's me, Clarissa. We need to talk."
Jared jumped up in excitement. "Finally! I knew you would come back to your senses. Damn it, it's been so long--"
"--come down to Macy's now. And don't be late." Clarissa commanded, then hung up.
"Hello? Hello?" Jared brought the phone to his face and saw she had hung up. "Damn it!" He hurried upstairs and changed his outfit, sprayed some perfume and checked himself out in the mirror. "I have to look good for her. I can't believe we're getting back!" His hair looked a bit messy but he shrugged it off and hurried out of the room.
Desdra brought him to a halt with her quick question. "Where are you going?"
Jared paused. He wouldn't want to tell Desdra yet, else, she might try to ruin his moment. "Uh, out."
"Wow, that's a lot of perfume. Wait, do you have a date? Are you seeing someone new?" She asked, suddenly smiling.
Jared continued for the door, ignoring her question. "I'll be right back."
In less than fifteen minutes, Jared made his way over to the dinner. He sighted Clarissa and walked over to her. A frown appeared on his face as he saw a man seated next to her.
"Hey, Rissa." He leaned forward reaching for her hands but she yanked them away from him. "What is going on here? Who is this man?" The man was in a suit and dark shades.
Clarissa herself looked so angry at him for some reason. Was she not the one who had called him here?
"Hey, leave us alone will you? This is my wife." Jared said boldly.
"Actually Jared, this is Mr. Astor, my lawyer." Clarissa announced.
"What?" Jared roared out. "Rissa, come on, we're still not doing this, are we?"
"Oh yes, we are." Clarissa replied. "After what you did to me?" Her eyes looked so red like she had been crying.
"Leave us, leave us you young man." Jared barked at the lawyer. He flashed Clarissa a look and she nodded, then he got up.
"I'll be over there, miss Rissa. Call me when you need me." The lawyer turned and walked a few steps away, taking the seat not too far from where they were.
"Fuck off!" Jared roared out. He was getting tense now. He just thought he would only have to caress her and say sweet things to her, then she would smile and accept him back, but a lawyer?? Why did she come with one?
"I knew you wouldn't tender our divorce papers so I'm here to make things official." Clarissa said.
Jared swallowed. "Listen, we can sort this out. I promise you, we can. I can't live my life without you. I won't sign anything, Clarissa."
"I know. But you will, Jared." Clarissa warned, her eyes suddenly turning devilish. The words were heavy in her mouth but she found a way to say it at last. "I am fertile, Jared. The doctor, today...he told me. I did a thorough check up and you've just been lying to me. You, Desdra, your messed up family. You were all lying to me," her voice was a strangling sob.
Jared still tried to deny it. "Nonsense! So what are you saying? That I'm the one with a problem? Clarissa, even though you were a barren, I still stayed by your side--"
Clarissa got up at once and planted a sharp slap on his face that he shut up at once. That wasn't supposed to happen so Mr. Astor came rushing towards her.
"How dare you? You've wasted my whole life, Jared! How dare you do this to me!" Clarissa cried out. She sniffed in, wiping those bitter tears from her eyes. Jared was speechless now.
"Tell him the implications if he doesn't sign those bloody papers right now, Mr. Astor!" Clarissa said.
Apparently, whether he sighed it or not was useless. The divorce would follow through to the end now she had a lawyer. She even had a right to file for a restraining order if he got anywhere near her again.
"Ma'am, would you like to request alimony? It's also your right." Mr. Astor said.
Clarissa scoffed. "This pitiful idiot doesn't even have money to feed himself. He can keep his alimony." She said.
Jared raised his head up and tried to beg for forgiveness but Clarissa cut him off.
"Let's never meet again, Jared. Good riddance. Divorcing you is the best decision I've ever made for myself." And with that, she walked out, ignoring Jared's cries for pleas.
