Chapter 31 Shadow of the Past
My head pounding with anguish, I woke to darkness. As I tried to understand where I was, my vision hazily changed. I fretted momentarily, feeling the soft rustle of fabric close by and the rough texture of a bed under me. I started to sit slowly, my body protesting with every motion. A neighbouring lantern flickering softly sent lovely shadows across the space. It was a little space with simple wooden walls, a few of basic pieces of furniture, and herbs dangling from the ceiling. The air smelt of medicinal plants and fresh earth. "Ah, you're awake," a gentle voice remarked. I turned to find a calm, gentle-faced woman standing next to the bed. She was elderly, her eyes seeming to possess great knowledge and silver hair falling in waves about her shoulders. She is Selene. For some while you have been unconscious.
