Chapter 35.
Freda's POV.
The spirit domain throbbed with a chill that stabbed deeper than any knife. Watching helplessly as the darkness came closer, encircling all I had ever loved, I drifted above the world I knew. Down there, oblivious of just how close the darkness were to eating her whole, was my wonderful, courageous daughter Alyssa. The distance between us hurt my heart, and I realised I had limited time—out of power. Days—no, what felt like lifetimes—searching the echoes of the past, I called on the old spirits that had previously watched over our family. They had cautioned me that the seal was weakening and that the blackness my forefathers had buried was returning to the surface. And today it was nearly free.
