Apologies
"Dear tell me what exactly happened, I wont force you to eat anymore or to come out of your room I'll just leave you and let you read, just tell me "
Mu Yinan said endearingly. He wanted to dotr heartily on his daughter and give her all the love in the world.
She hesitated for a while, but then she agreed .
"Yesterday, I was supposed to go shopping with mother but grandmother wouldn't let me go, she said I should just use Xiner's old clothes, that she wasn't going to waste money on me. Why don't I deserve new clothes ? Why does Xiner gets new clothes and I don't or is it because you all adopted me or is it because we're short of money ? I know that's not it, because we eat so well everyday. If grandmother doesn't like me then take me back to orphanage, why keep me ? It's clear grandmother doesn't like me"
Her face was already filled with tears as she explained everything in between sobs. It wasn't a good feeling to not be cared for, to have no one to love you. She hated herself for actually calling them mother, father and grandmother.
They probably didn't care if she ate lunch or dinner yesterday they waited till this afternoon to act. In the book she read, the parents were so nice and treated their child so lovingly and did everything to make them happy. Why wasn't she treated in such a way ?
Everyone was silent and looked at Xinyan who had tears in her eyes on the bed .
"Xinyan dear ... " Shen Yue tried to calm her
"Dont call me Xinyan or dear I'm not your daughter , I'm not Mr Mu's daughter either . The name Xinyan is for your daughter and My name is 3 not Xinyan. If I were really the daughter you wouldn't have waited 14 years to come get me back and after getting me back, you treat everyone else much better than me " She said in between sobs,slowly and sadly.
Children weren't adept at hiding the things in their hearts. More so for a simple child like Xinyan who wasn't exposed much to the world outside her orphanage.
Little bullies she wasn't related to, she could deal with. But how could she handle the family she had always wanted and hoped for and prayed for, not loving her the way she thought.
Her hopes had been dashed very harshly.
Everyone felt really bad, they really let her down. Xinyan covered herself under the duvet. Mu Yinan was disappointed at himself. Ever since she came back, he got so busy with work and didn't ask about her much. He trusted Shen Yue, it seems he had made a mistake. She was his daughter, he should have tried harder.
He couldn't say anything and neither could anyone else. A flash of determination flashed in Mu Yinan's eyes and he left the house with the car without looking at anyone in the room.
He would prove to her that he really loved her.
Everyone slowly left to eat their breakfast except Shen Yue. She felt really really bad. But more than that she felt afraid. Only she and Yinan knew that Xiner was not Mu Yinan's daughter but he would go to any length to make her happy, yet she couldn't take care of his daughter. The only true child of the Mu Family. If she offended Xinyan, wouldn't My Yinan start to treat Shen Yue badly. She felt anxious. She just sat there quietly, she didn't know what to say.
What Shen Yue didn't understand was that Xiner had long become Mu Yinan's daughter in his heart. He saw no difference. Her actions today made him see more that Xinyan was not her daughter and she couldn't treat her equally but not that Xiner wasn't his daughter.
He was disappointed in her and that would never affect his feelings for his daughter Xiner.
After some minutes Xinyan came from under the duvet and went into the bathroom she washed her face properly and cleaned it with a towel. Then she slowly and carefully picked up all the books on the floor and arranged them neatly on the shelf before taking one and continued her reading she didnt even talk to Shen Yue or spare her a glance.
About 2 hours later Mu Yinan came back with lots of bags and various desserts they were brought in by 4 helpers and placed on her bed.
Mu Yinan truly felt bad. The daughter that wasn't his enjoyed new clothes while the one that truly carried the Mu family's blood had to wear the fake daughter's old ones.
Not that he didn't love Xiner, he hoped to treat them equally.
Shen Yue had been there since unable to say anything to Xinyan. When Mu Yinan came in she couldn't even look up to see him.
Mu Yinan came closer to Xinyan
"Dear, mother and grandmother made a mistake, it doesn't mean they don't love you, everyone loves you. I love you very much, look, I got you lots of new clothes and sweet snacks. You deserve the best and although we did not bring you home till now it also doesn't mean we dont love you. Dont make us worry anymore just eat a bit okay. "
Mu Yinan said as while patting the top of her head and looking into her teary blue eyes.
He had a gentle expression and handed her a box of cookies with some fruit juice
that the help was holding. She smiled a little.
What he said really touched her.
Plus she was a child and a foodie too. She wouldnt hold grudges for long. Sometimes people would say 'actions speak louder than words ' but for her even the simplest of words had a large effect.
She had the tendency to overthink things. Maybe they did love her, it was only right she gave them a chance after all, they took her out of the orphanage and were willing to love her. She gave Mu Yinan a hug then she ate the cookies since she was really hungry.
After coaxing her, Mu Yinan left to get some real food for her.
She looked at Shen Yue whose face was down. She felt really bad. She had used really harsh words on her mother. She put down the cookie box and walked to Shen Yue.
"Mother, I'm very sorry. I acted wrongly. I should have known you love me very much. I should never have doubted you. Which parent doesn't love their child "
And truly, this was how she thought. She always heard how the children at the orphanage would talk about how much their parents loved them, she felt really bad.
"Mother I'm really sorry please accept my apology "
"My dear you don't need to apologize. I was also in the wrong, I won't let you feel wronged again, good child"
"I love you mother" Xinyan said, as she wrapped her arms around her mother's waist and hugged her tightly.
"I love you too dear " she really thought the child would hate her because she thought about the way the mother hated her but instead she hugged her. If Xinyan really didn't like her she would have felt really bad.
"Ah the mother daughter pair have forgotten about me" Mu Yinan came in holding a tray of food. They let go of each other as Mu Yinan placed the tray on the coffee table.
"You both should come eat ."
They got up and started eating dim sum and cooked vegetables and also some fruits. The food was light because she hadn't eaten all day and her stomach was empty so light food was appropriate.
Both mother and daughter ate to their heart's content before a servant came in and took the plates away.
